Objective To investigate the effects of Qi-reinforcing and blood-activating prescription,Qidan Tongmai Tablet(QDTMT) on the IL-10 in the rat model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. Methods A model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury was reproduced by ligation of left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery.Thirty-six male SD rats were randomly divided into six groups(n=6):sham operation group, model group,Diltiazem Hydrochloride group,QDTMT high-dose group,QDTMT medium-dose group and QDTMT low-dose group. After the left anterior descending branch of coronary artery was occluded for 30 minutes followed by reperfusion for 2 hours, the whole blood was collected via right common carotid artery and the serum level of IL-10 was measured by ELISA.At the same time,HE staining was performed to detect the pathological change in myocardium, and the ultrastructural alterations of rats were observed with transmission electron microscope. Results The contents of IL-10 in serum were increased in QDTMT groups.Electron microscopic examination showed that pathologic changes of myocardiocytes in QDTMT groups were milder than those of the model group. The effects in QDTMT high-dose group were better than that in the low-dose group, and has insignificant difference with Diltiazem Hydrochloride group. Conclusion Qi-reinforcing and blood-activating prescription inhibits the inflammatory reaction by facilitating the expression of endogenous IL-10 and improving myocardial ultrastructural changes after myocardial ischemia/reperfusion in rats. These actions may contribute to its protective effect on the ischemic myocardial cells.

Three patients with carotid body tumor were treated by surgery in our department from 1994 to 1998. There were 3 females with age from 23 to 40 years old. Among 3 cases, 2 cases were misdiagnosis as neurilemmoma before operation. The size of tumor was 2.5×2.5cm in 1, 3.0×3.0cm in 2. The treatment methods were surgery alone in 2, combined radiotherapy in 1. All patients were cured who had not serious complications. We think that the three symptoms of carotid body tumor are important bases for diagnosis on this disease. However, color B ultrasonography, DSA, CT or MRI also provided informations for useful diagnosis.

Objective To study the diagnostic value of air plethysmography (APG) in deep venous valvular incompetence of lower limbs and the relationship between deep venous reflux and calf muscular pump function. Methods Sixty-five varicose cases (89 limbs) were detected by APG in alterations of venous filling index (VFI), ejection fraction(EF), residual volume fraction(RVF) and outflow fraction(OF). Of 89 limbs, 18 limbs were in GradeⅠ of deep venous reflux, 24 in Grade Ⅱ, 18 in Grade Ⅲ and 12 in Grade Ⅳ. Integrated vectors analysis (Hotelling T 2test) was done with these index. Venography was performed in all patients. Results There were statistical differences in VFI between each two Grades of deep venous reflux except for between Grade Ⅰ and Ⅱ. There were also statistical differences in EF,RVF and OF between Grade Ⅳ and the other Grades. Hotelling T 2test showed significant testing efficiency of APG. ConclusionsDeep venous valvular insufficiency of lower limbs can be assessed by APG. VFI is a reliable quantitative index for evaluating the degree of deep venous reflux. There may be an exponent relation between deep venous reflux and calf muscular pump function.

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo assess the upper airway and related structures in different patterns of the upper airway obstruction on cine magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).METHODSCMR images of upper airway were obtained in 30 male patients with severe OSAHS during waking state and natural sleep. The midsagittal plane images were obtained. Patients were classified into 3 groups based on the upper airway obstruction patterns at apnea events and the reference data of the upper airway were measured.RESULTSDuring natural sleep, the diameter of retropalatal region, retroglossal region, retroepiglottic region and the length of suprahyoid muscles were significantly shorter than those during waking state (P<0.01). The maximum angle between the suprahyoid muscles and the apex of the tongue during natural sleep was significantly larger than that during waking state (P<0.01). During wakefulness, there was a significantly difference in the diameter of retropalatal region among 3 obstruction patterns (P<0.01). During natural sleep, there were statistical difference in the diameter of retropalatal region and the upper tongue, the angle between the hard palate and soft palate, the maximum angle between the suprahyoid muscles and the apex of the tongue, and their change values among 3 obstruction patterns (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONThe measurements of the upper airway and related structures on CMR imaging in OSAHS patients could provide useful information in assessing upper airway.
