OBJECTIVE:To provide reference for improving propaganda level and effect of rational drug use. METHODS:Questionnaire survey was designed to investigate the recognition, attitude and demand of consumers in retail pharmacies, students in parts of pharmaceutical universities and their parents and patients in parts of hospitals in more than 10 provinces(autonomous re-gions and municipalities)for propaganda of rational drug use,and the results were statistically significant. RESULTS:The question-naires ranged from 100 to 2 000 in each province (autonomous region and municipality),and totally 11 700 questionnaires were sent out,11 490 were received with recovery of 98.2%;10 980 were effectively received with effective recovery of 95.6%. 78.4%respondents heard of the concept of rational drug use, proportion of young and middle-aged people in 18-44 years old was signifi-cantly higher than other age group, the proportion was significantly increased by the improvement of education, and the proportion of people closer to the city was higher(P<0.001);the respondents who can fully understand the content of the propaganda account-ed for 22.7%,while higher education held higher proportion on“fully understand”,and people closer to the city held higher pro-portion on“fully understand”and“partially understand”(P<0.001);only 9.5% respondents could fully trust propaganda activity, proportion of choosing“partially trust”was generally increased by the improvement of education(P<0.001);and 69.1% respon-dents hoped to obtain relevant knowledge, people who had more purchase frequencies showed stronger willing(P<0.001);the top 3 preferences of respondents for propaganda forms were“face to face guidance from physicians and pharmacists”,“reading drug in-structions”and“reading professional books”. CONCLUSIONS:With insufficient recognition on rational use of drugs, coverage of propaganda about rational drug use needs further expand, public understanding of propaganda contents about rational drug use is fairly limited and people’s trust level towards propaganda is not high, but the public has strong desires to obtain the knowledge about rational drug use. Therefore, various means should be adopted to improve the effects on propaganda of rational drug use.

Objective To investigate the effect of diazepam on blood-brain barrier ( BBB ) after radiation-induced brain injury. Methods Two hundred and forty healthy male SD rats weighing 240-270 g were randomly divided into 4 group with 60 animals in each group: Ⅰ D-R group received intraperitoneal diazepam 5 mg?kg-1 30 min before irradiation; Ⅱ N-R group received no diazepam before irradiation; Ⅲ D-SR group received intraperitoneal diazepam 5 mg? kg-1 30 min before sham irradiation and Ⅳ N-SR group received no diazepam before sham irradiation. The animals were placed in a prone position awake without any anesthetics. The whole brain was irradiated by 4 MeV electron beam at a single dose of 30 Gy. The changes in BBB were assessed by (1) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the T1-weighted images, T2-weighted images and MRI enhancement images induced by Gd-DTPA; (2) Evans blue (EB) assay; 2% EB 3 ml?kg-1 was injected via femoral vein and 3 h later the animals were decapitated and EB content in the brain tissue was determined by spectrophotometry; (3) The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the brain tissue determined by immuno-histochemistry before irradiation ( T0 ) ( baseline) at 6 h (T1 ), 1 day ( T2 ) , 1 week ( T3 ) and 1 month ( T4 ) after irradiation. Results In group Ⅱ (no diazepam before irradiation) the signal intensity of T1-weighted images significantly decreased while the signal intensity of T2-weighted images and the enhancement rate significantly increased at T4. However in group Ⅰ (diazepam was given before irradiation) the changes in the MRI were significantly attenuated. The EB content at T1, T3 , T4 and the expression of VEGF at T1 , T, were significantly higher in group Ⅱ than in group Ⅰ . Conclusion Diazepam given before irradiation can protect BBB against irradiation injury by decreasing the expression of VEGF in the brain tissue and BBB permeability.

Background Patients' experience during phacoemulsification cataract surgery is an important determinant of patient's satisfaction with surgery effectiveness.Local anaesthesia could be associated with different intraoperative visual awareness because of retention of optic nerve function.Relieving the anxiety of patients arose from intraoperative visual awareness is of important clinical significance. Objective This study was to discuss the necessity of preoperative conversation and psychological counseling and to improve the quality of surgery and the satisfaction of patients. Methods One hundred and fifty-three patients who had undergone sequential phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in the same operation under local anaesthesia from October,2010 to December,2010 in Tangdu Hospital and Xi'an First People's Hospital, received a standardized questionnaire designed based on similar questionnaires from abroad and surveyed regarding their intraoperative visual experience, including light perception, their detection of color, photopsia, and their detection of the movement of the surgeon, instrument, and changes in light intensity during cataract surgery. In another survey, seventy ophthalmologists in the Xi'an area with ≥ 10 years (33) and < 10 years of experience (37) participated in a questionnaire about their recognition and response to these visual experiences, designed based on the 2010 Chinese Doctors General Questionnaire. Results During the phacoemulsification and IOL implantation,27 patients (17.6%) lost light perception,98 patients (64.1%) had light perception,28 patients (18.3%) detected more than one color,25 patients (16.3%) had photopsia,49 patients (45.1%) sensed the movement of the surgeon,26 patients (17.0%) was able to see surgical instruments,11 patients (7.2%) saw the surgeon's fingers,4 patients (2.6%) saw the surgeons,65 patients (42.5%) detected changes in light intensity and 12 patients (7.8%) saw the IOL loop and others.21.4% of the 70ophthalmologists believed these patients might have lost light perception;while 78.3% thought these patients retained light perception.Under local anaesthesia,93.9% of the more experienced surgeons and 75.6% of the junior surgeons deemed that good preoperative counseling was helpful for the patients, but only 45.5% of the more experienced surgeons and 24.3% of the junior surgeons counseled patients regarding intraoperative visual experience. Conclusions Most patients will experience a variety of visual sensations during phacoemulsification and IOL implantation under local anaesthesia. Many ophthalmologists are aware of these conditions. Most of the ophthalmologists believe that patients suffer from fear from these intraoperative visual experiences and claim that preoperative counseling to patients can relieve that fear, but less of them communicate these possible experiences to patients. This study offers some discussions about preoperative counseling.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(6):1394-1399
Mammography imaging is one of the most demanding imaging modalities from the point of view of the bal- ance between image quality (the visibility of small size and/or low contrast structures) and dose (screening of many asymptomatic people). Therefore, since the introduction of the first dedicated mammographic units, many efforts have been directed to seek the best possible image quality while minimizing patient dose. The performance of auto- matic exposure control (AEC) is the manifestation of this demand. The theory of AEC includes exposure detection and optimization and also involves some accomplished methodology. This review presents the development and present situa- tion of spectrum optimization, detector evolution, and the way how to accomplish and evaluate AEC methods.
