Objective To observe the characteristics of morphosis parameter of the optic disc of physiologie large cup. Methods 100 eyes with physiologic large cup and 74 eyes with normal cup were examined by Heidelberg Retina Tomograph(HRT).The differences of morphosis parameters between two groups were analyzed comparatively on disc area(DA),cup volume(CV),cup/disc area ratio(C/DR),rim area(RA),cup volume(CV),rim volume(RV),mean cup depth(MeCD),maximum cup depth (MxCD),cup shape measure(CSM),height variation contour(HVC),mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(mRNFLt),and retinal nerve fiber layer cross-section area(RNFLcsa). The characteristics of the inferior.superior, nasal, and temporal quadrants of the physiologic large cups were analyzed. Results DA,CA,C/DR,CV,MeCD,CSM(P=0.00.respectively)and MxCD(P=0.04)were significantly larger in eyes with physiologic large cup than in eyes with normal cup.RA,RV,HVC,mRNFLt,RNFLcsa(P=0.00,respectively)were significantly smaller in eyes with physiologic large cup than in eyes with normal cup.The temporal quadrant of RV of the physiologic large cup is the narrowest.RNFLcsa decreased as the following order:superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal(P<0.05).Conclusions Morphosis parameter of the optic discs of physiologic large cup has its own representation on characteristics.Compared to normal cups, physiologic large cups had larger discs but smaller mRNFLt.The nasal quadrant of DA was larger than the inferior quadrant.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of bFGF on the apoptosis and the expression of glucose regulated protein 78(GRP78) in ovarian cancer CAOV3 cells.METHODS:Starvation induced cell apoptosis was conducted. After treatment with bFGF,the cell cycle and apoptosis were determined by FACS analysis and Annexin V/PI staining, respectively. The expression of protein kinase B(PKB) and GRP78 were detected by Western blotting and RT-PCR.RESULTS:Compared to starvation group, the cells treated with bFGF were still viable and increased activation of PKB and high expression of GRP78 were observed, which were prevented by PKB inhibitor wortmannin effectively(P

Objective To observe the clinical effect of moxibustion on body sub-health fatigue state. Methods 120 cases of body sub-health patients were randomly divided into A,B,C three groups, with 40 cases in each group.Group A was treated with moxibustion, group B was treated with acupuncture therapy, and group C (control group) did not receive any measure of treatments.Fatigue scale (FS) was adopted to the three groups respectively for measuring physical fatigue score, mental fatigue score and total fatigue score before and after the treatment.Treatment efficacy was evaluated and analyzed after three weeks of continuous treatment. Results The total score of fatigue scale was 6.10 ± 2.47、6.82± 2.36、and 10.10±2.66 respectively in group A,group B and group C.Compared with group C,the difference in group A and group B was statistically significant (P<0.01).Compared with group B,the difference in group A was not statistically significant (P>0.05) ; The Physical fatigue points of group A,B,C was 2.46± 2.06、3.60 ± 2.24 and 5.03 ± 2.66 respectively.Compared with C group, the difference in group A and group B was statistically significant (P<0.01).Compared with group B,the difference in group A was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions Moxibustion and acupuncture can effectively improve patients total body sub-health state of fatigue.Moxibustion treatment showed better effects in alleviating physical fatigue,

A 65-year-old woman presented with intermittent right hand numbness and elevated serum creatinine for more than 2 months. The histological examination of kidney biopsy showed renal arterioles occlusion and interstitial fibrosis. Pathological abnormality was originally considered as a part of systemic atherosclerosis. Thus, rosuvastatin 20 mg/d, fosinopril 10 mg/d, metoprolol 47.5 mg/d and aspirin 0.1g/d were administrated. No improvement of renal function was seen. Further Congo red staining was applied. Diffuse amorphous eosinophilic substance was deposited in interlobular artery and small arteriolar artery. Combined with the abnormal free light chain (FLC) level and ratio (serum κ 340 mg/L, κ/λ 10.932), the diagnosis of systematic light-chain amyloidosis was confirmed. The patient received 3 courses of chemotherapy regimen as BCD (bortezomib 2 mg d1, 8, 15, 22, cyclophosphamide 0.3 g d1, 8, 15, 22 and dexamethasone 40 mg d1, 8, 15, 22). A hematologic partial response was achieved and serum creatinine decreased to 180 μmol/L.

Objective To observe the clinical features of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN).Methods Six patients (11 eyes) with AMN were included in this study, with every 2-week follow-ups till six months.Among them, five had preceding dengue fever (83.3%),one had history of head trauma (16.7%).All patients received routine examination, fundus photography, infrared reflectance (IR) imaging,spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) scanning and fluorescein fundus angiography (FFA) initially, and fundus photography,IR,SD-OCT during follow-up.Results Sudden onset of central/paracentral scotoma in one eye or both eyes was the main visual symptom. There were 1 eye with normal fundus,2 eyes with wedge-shape lesions,8 eyes with yellow-white or brown sheet lesion.IR imaging demonstrated localized areas of hypo-reflection in the macula.SD-OCT scanning through these areas revealed hyper-reflection in the photoreceptor layer and disruption of its normal reflective structures.Subsequent SD-OCT demonstrated that the hyper-reflection of the photoreceptor layer regressed gradually, followed by thinning of the outer nuclear layer. The external limiting membrane and ellipsoid zone became continuous;however, the interdigitation zone was not restored. There was no remarkable findings of the AMN lesions on FFA.The scotomas persisted in all 6 patients (11 eyes) by the last visit. Conclusions IR imaging demonstrated localized areas of hypo-reflection in the macula.SD-OCT revealed hyper-reflection in the photoreceptor layer in acute stage and the interdigitation zone was not restored in late stage.AMN has a relative poor prognosis with persistent scotomas through at least 6 months.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)on the expression of cyclin D1,growth arrest,DNA damage inducible gene 153(GADD153),and its roles involved in cell cycle regulation and DNA repair in starvation-induced ovarian cancer CAOV3 cells apoptosis.METHODS:Apoptosis of ovarian cancer CAOV3 cells was induced by serum-free culture(starvation). After bFGF treatment, the cell proliferation rate, cell cycle and apoptosis were determined by MTT,FACS analysis and agarose electrophoresis, respectively. The expression of c-Fos,c-Jun and cyclin D1,GADD153 were detected by Western blotting.RESULTS:bFGF increased the cell proliferation and prevented starvation-induced cell apoptosis. In a time-dependent manner,bFGF induced the expression of c-Fos,c-Jun and cyclin D1 and inhibited GADD153.CONCLUSION:bFGF plays a critical role in anti-apoptosis and the proliferation in human ovarian cancer by upregulating the expression of c-Fos,c-Jun and cyclin D1 and inhibiting GADD153.
