OBJECTIVETo study the photosynthetic characteristics and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of Pinellia ternate from different sources, in order to provide basis for cultivation and breeding.
METHODPigment contents were compared among different sources by the Lichtenthaler method. The light-response and diurnal photosynthesis course of P. ternata from different sources were analyzed by LI-6400 system, and chlorophll fluorescence parameters were analyzed by PAM-2100 system.
RESULTThe difference of photosynthetic characteristics among the sources were remarkable. The light compensation point (LCP) of P. ternate from different sources were 11.57-17.88 micromol x m(-2) x s(-1), the light saturation point (LSP) were 1 000-1 300 micromol x m(-2) x (s-1). All the sources have obvious "midday depression". P. ternate cultivated in Xinjiang showed a higher light saturation point (LSP) and better chlorophyll fluorescence parameters.
CONCLUSIONP. ternata cultivated in Xinjiang showed better photosynthetic characteristics and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters than the others.

Objective To investigate the effects of different depths of anesthesia on incidence of postopera-tive cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Methods We systematically retrievedPubmed,OVID,CNKI,CBM and Wanfang database and VIP database for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)from inceptionto December 312016, comparing different depths of anesthesia for their impacts on incidence of early POCD. After data extraction and quality evaluation,Revman 5.3 software was used for statistical data analysis. Results A total of 714 patients in 8 eligible RCTs were identified. Results of meta-analysis were as follows.(1)Incidence of POCD of depth anesthesia (NTS=E0-E1)was lower than general anesthesia(NTS=D0-D1)1 d after surgery(OR=0.21,95%CI 0.13~0.35,P < 0.00001).(2)Incidence of POCD of depth anesthesia(NTS = E1)was lower than general anesthesia (NTS=D0)7 d after surgery(OR=0.45,95%CI 0.23~0.91,P=0.03).(3)Incidence of POCD of NTS=E1 was lower than NTS=D07d after surgery(OR=0.42,95%CI 0.24~0.71,P=0.001). Conclusion Comparedwith general anesthesia, depth anesthesia is associated with a lower incidence of early POCD.

Liver Research 2024;8(1):1-10
The liver has a strong regenerative capacity that ensures patient recovery after hepatectomy and liver transplantation. The portal system plays a crucial role in the dual blood supply to the liver, making it a significant factor in hepatic function.Several surgical strategies, such as portal vein ligation, associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy, and dual vein embolization, have high-lighted the portal system's importance in liver regeneration.Following hepatectomy or liver trans-plantation,the hemodynamic properties of the portal system change dramatically, triggering regeneration via shear stress and the induction of hypoxia. However, excessive portal hyperperfusion can harm the liver and negatively affect patient outcomes.Furthermore,as the importance of the gut-liver axis has gradually been revealed, the effect of metabolites and cytokines from gut microbes carried by portal blood on liver regeneration has been acknowledged. From these perspectives, this review outlines the molecular mechanisms of the portal system's role in liver regeneration and summarizes therapeutic strategies based on the portal system intervention to promote liver regeneration.

Objective:
To evaluate the preventive effect of implementing the free influenza vaccination policy on school absence among primary and secondary school students, so as to provide a reference for formulating and adjusting vaccination strategies.
Methods:
Among primary and secondary school students aged 6 to 18 in Longgang District, Shenzhen, they were divided into a vaccinated group (265 996 students) and an unvaccinated group (122 513 students) according to their influenza vaccination history during November 2023. Propensity score matching was used to conduct a 1∶1 match between the two groups to balance covariates. The number of absences per month was set as the dependent variable to construct a difference in differences model, and Poisson regression was employed to analyze the overall and multi time point effects.
Results:
Vaccination against influenza was associated with low rate of absenteeism among primary and secondary school students, with an overall preventive effect of 26.52% (95% CI = 23.47% -29.45%). The preventive effects in November (the month of vaccination) and December 2023, January and March 2024 were 42.12%, 40.12%, 30.33% and 20.91%, respectively. The preventive effect of the influenza vaccine on absenteeism among primary school students (26.39%) was not significantly different from that among secondary school students ( 27.97% ) ( P >0.05). The regression coefficient for class vaccination rates ranged from 0.998 to 0.999 ( P <0.01), indicating that for every 10% increase in influenza vaccination rates, absenteeism could be reduced by 1.5% to 2.2%.
Conclusion
Implementing free influenza vaccination for primary and secondary school students might help to reduce the risk of absenteeism, yielding significant socioeconomic benefits.

Objective:To assess the impact of vaccination at school and influenza vaccination rates among school-age children on school absenteeism in Shenzhen. Methods:The study subjects were primary school students in Shenzhen. School absenteeism panel database from December 2017 to June 2020 of 286 primary schools in Shenzhen was merged with vaccination rates and organizational patterns ( i.e., vaccination at school vs. non-school) data of 9 districts in Shenzhen after influenza vaccination for children. The outcome was the number of school absenteeism. The treatment and control groups were distinguished by organizational patterns and district vaccination rates. Difference-in-Difference (DiD) Poisson regressions were used to analyze the effectiveness of vaccination at school and higher vaccination rates. Besides, a robustness test was performed on the regression results. Results:Poisson regression analysis and robustness test of regression results showed that vaccination at school and higher vaccination rates effectively reduced the risk of school absenteeism, with effectiveness against absenteeism of 32.6% (95% CI: 17.0%-45.3%, P<0.01) and 53.0% (95% CI: 42.1%-61.8%, P<0.01), respectively. Conclusion:A free influenza vaccination program for school-age children in Shenzhen and prioritizing school-based vaccination may be an effective measure to reduce the risk of school absenteeism.
