AIM: To investigate the pharmacological effects of recombined basic fibroblast growth factor (rbFGF) on retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) of rats. METHODS: Using calibrated cross-action forceps a moderate crush injury was inflicted on the nerve. After crush injury, rbFGF, saline and VB 12 were administered by retrobublar injection. Four weeks after injury , the apoptosis of RGCs was measured with flow cytometer. RESULTS: Four weeks after operation, it was shown that the rbFGF, but not saline or VB 12 injection could significantly improve the maintainance of RGCs of rats. After 800 U, 1600 U and 2400 U rbFGF injection, the injured RGCs were rescued by 24.5%, 27.3% and 28.5% respectively. Furthermore, it was also found that rbFGF injection could effectively prevent the axons from injury. The flow cytometer showed that the rate of apoptosis was reduced markedly on 7 days at rbFGF group. CONCLUSION: rbFGF can significantly promote the functional repair of injured optic nerve. [

Objective:
To investigate the prevalence of metabolic diseases among residents in Moyu County, Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, so as to provide the evidence for developing the control strategy for metabolic diseases.
Methods:
The demographic features, laboratory examinations and B-mode ultrasonographic examinations of the liver and gall bladder were collected from residents at ages of 18 years and older in Moyu County through the hospital-based medical records system. The prevalence of metabolic diseases was estimated, including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and fatty liver, and the factors affecting the development of metabolic diseases were identified using a multinomial logistic regression model.
Results:
Totally 281 803 residents were included in the study, including 129 549 men ( 49.97% ) and 152 254 women ( 54.03% ) and with a median age of 37.00 years ( interquartile range, 22.00 years ). The overall prevalence of metabolic diseases was 47.66%, and the prevalence rates of obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, fatty liver and diabetes were 25.72%, 24.77%, 12.30%, 12.05% and 5.49%, respectively, which appeared a tendency towards a rise with age ( χ2trend = 11 243.73, 14 086.41, 2 109.70, 6 631.22, and 2 011.15, all P<0.001 ). There were 73 811 residents suffering from one metabolic disease (26.19%), and 60 495 residents with two and more metabolic diseases ( 21.47% ). Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that gender ( OR=0.870; 0.796 ), age ( OR: 1.703-8.701; 2.952-18.846 ), marital status ( OR: 1.397-1.845; 1.460-2.377 ) educational level ( OR: 0.891-0.937; 0.920-0.924 ), occupation ( OR: 1.177-1.270; 1.114-2.099), family history ( OR=1.136; 1.390), drinking frequency ( OR: 2.038; 1.395-2.574 ) and central obesity ( OR=3.448; 14.352 ) were factors affecting the development of one or more metabolic diseases.
Conclusion
The prevalence of metabolic diseases is high among residents in Moyu County. Men, the elderly, a low education level and unhealthy lifestyles may increase the risk of metabolic diseases.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2015;50(5):565-568
The PET tracer 5-([11C]methyloxy)-L-tryptophan (5-(11)CMTP) was prepared by nucleophilic fluorination and alkylation reaction via a two-step procedure in order to develop specific tumor probe. The biodistribution and microPET imaging of 5-(11)CMTP were executed. The results unveiled that the overall radiochemical yield with no decay correction was (14.6 ±7.2) %, the radiochemical purity was more than 95% and high uptake and long retention time of 5-(11)CMTP in liver, kidney and blood were observed but low uptake in brain and muscle were found, furthermore, high uptake of 5-(11)CMTP in tumor tissue was observed. It seems that 5-(11)CMTP will be a potential amino acid tracer for tumors imaging with PET.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of internal fixation with screw through femoral epiphyseal plate on growth in- hibition via an experimental study.
METHODSForty New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and 10 rabbits in each group. Epiphyseal plate was injured by penetrating of screws, and the size of damage area was controlled by changing the number of threads. Group A: blank group; group B: injury area accounted for 4% of the epiphyseal plate; group C: injury area accounted for 6%; group D: injury area accounted for 8%. The internal fixation was removed after 2 weeks, and the results were observed with X-ray film for 4 groups to judge the complications such as early closure of epiphyseal.
RESULTSIn each group, there were no statistical differences in the length of the femoral neck, the diameter of femoral neck, the diameter of the femoral head, and the epiphyseal plate closure time. The growth speed of the length and diameter of the femoral neck, as well as the diameter of femoral head, were quicker on the early phase, and the speed was slowest when the epiphyseal plate was being closed.
CONCLUSIONThe injury area of epiphyseal plate under 8% is safe for its growth. Because no evidences demonstrate the growth inhibition of epiphyseal plate, the screws can be used for rabbit epiphyseal plates.

Objective To study the effect of corrected TIMI frame count (CTFC) of infarction related artery on systolic function of infarct area of myocardium after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods One hundred and six patients with AMI having undergone successful PCI in Cangzhou Central Hospital were selected, and they were divided into two groups (each, 53 cases). The standard of fast or slow flow was in accord to the CTFC of infarction related artery (IRA) measured soon after successful PCI. The patients with greater value of CTFC were enrolled in the slow flow group, while the patients with smaller such value were assigned in the fast flow group. At 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours after PCI, the venous plasma MB isoenzyme of creatine kinase (CK-MB) level was measured. And at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after PCI, the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was measured by cardiac ultrasound, and the levels of radial strain (RS) and longitudinal strain (LS) of the infarct area were measured via speckle tracking imaging (STI). The differences in CTFC, CK-MB, RS and LS between the two groups were analyzed, and the correlations between the strains and CTFC, CK-MB were analyzed by Pearson linear correlation method. Results After successful PCI, the CK-MB of fast flow group was higher than that of the slow flow group at 6 hours. However, the CK-MB of slow flow group was higher than that of the fast flow group after 12 hours, appearing separate phenomenon, and the statistical significance occurred beginning from 24 hours after PCI (U/L, 24 hours:98.43±11.65 vs. 86.43±18.97, 48 hours:51.09±8.94 vs. 49.80±6.92, both P<0.05). CTFC in fast flow group was significantly lower than that of slow flow group (frame: 22.69±4.83 vs. 26.14±5.67, P < 0.01). After 3 months of follow-up, LVEF in fast flow group was higher than that of the slow flow group, but the difference had no significance (P > 0.05). RS and LS in fast flow group were higher than those in slow flow group, and the statistically significant difference appeared from 1 month after PCI (1 month RS:29.74±6.66 vs. 26.86±5.61, LS:-16.37±3.91 vs. -15.27±3.22, 3 months RS: 30.03±6.31 vs. 27.63±5.67, LS: -17.74±3.96 vs. -15.75±4.17, all P < 0.05). Pearson linear correlation showed:the strains (both RS and LS) and CK-MB had no significant relation (both P>0.05). Both RS and LS at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months were of significantly positive correlation with CTFC of each group (fast flow group:r value of CTFC and RS was respectively-0.526,-0.515,-0.532, r value of CTFC and LS was respectively-0.532,-0.541,-0.572;slow flow group:r value of CTFC and RS was respectively-0.691,-0.685,-0.702, r value of CTFC and LS was respectively-0.621,-0.584,-0.605, all P<0.01). Conclusion CTFC has some relationship with the recovery of the systolic function in area of infarct myocardium after PCI, and can be regarded as an important index to predict the long-term prognosis in patients with AMI.
