Objective: To analyze the teaching environment of primary, middle and high schools in Suzhou, and to explore the relevance of students’ myopia with teaching environment, as well as the key problems in teaching environment. Methods: 1 253 classrooms in 204 schools rom 10 districts and counties in Suzhou were selected by proportionate stratified sampling. The qualified rate of each indices was described and the teaching environment by county, learning stage were compared by using chi-squared test. The Spearman test is used to explore correlations between myopia with monitoring indicators. Results: The qualified rate of the distance from lamp to table was the highest (98.56%), while matching rate of student desk and chair was the lowest(0.96%). Minimum lamp table spacing, blackboard average illumination, reflectance from blackboard wall, classroom per capita area, classroom microclimate differed significantly in urban and rural (P<0.05); daylighting coefficient, reflectance from walls, average illumination of desktop and blackboard, classroom per capita area, and microclimate indicator were statistically different by learning stages(r=0.42,P<0.05). Prevalence of myopia correlated with the index of lighting. Conclusion Qualified desks and matched chairs, as well as the daylighting design in classroom should receive more attention in Suzhou. The findings lend support to identification of key health priorities and formulation of the localized health practice for health administrations.

Objective:To investigate the prevalence and molecular characteristics of Escherichia coli ( E. coli) producing a novel Shiga toxin 2k subtype in goat in Lanling county, Shandong province. Methods:In November 2019, 512 goat fecal samples were collected from different households in Lanling county, Shandong province. After enriched with EC broth, stx-positive samples were detected by PCR and inoculated in CHROMagar? ECC agar and CHROMagar? STEC agar. The whole genomes of stx-positive strains were sequenced. Based on the genomic senquences, the stx subtype, serotype, multi-locus sequence type and virulence genes of each strain were analyzed. Results:Eighty-six strains of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) were isolated from 512 goat fecal samples. Five stx subtypes were identified and 37 strains were positive for stx2k. The 86 STEC strains belonged to 20 O∶H serotypes and 18 different sequence types (STs). Conclusions:STEC strains circulating in goats in Lanling county, Shandong province were heterogeneous in stx subtypes, serotypes and virulence gene profiles, and a certain proportion of strains producing a novel Shiga toxin 2k subtype were detected.

Objective:To understand the molecular characteristics of Escherichia coli producing Shiga toxin 2e subtype isolated from different sources in China. Methods:Three human-derived, 13 animal-derived and eight food-derived stx2e-positive Escherichia coli strains which were isolated during 2012 to 2018 were analyzed by antimicrobial susceptibility testing and whole genome sequencing. The stx subtype, serotype, multi-locus sequence type, virulence genes and antimicrobial resistance genes of each strain were determined by whole genome sequences. The phylogenetic relationship and genetic composition of Shiga-toxin prophage were explored. Results:Twenty-four stx2e-STEC strains were typed into 19 O∶H serotypes and 19 sequence types (STs). Each strain carried at least one kind of antimicrobial resistance gene and 19 out of 24 strains were resistant to at least one kind of antimicrobials. Three human-derived strains were heterogenous in serotypes and STs, but there were several animal and food-derived strains shared the same serotype or ST with human strains and showed close relationship in the phylogenetic analysis. The sequences of stx2e among all strains were highly conserved (similarity >99.7%), but there were significant differences in the size and the gene composition of Shiga toxin prophage genome. Conclusions:This is report about the characteristics of rare human-derived Stx2e-STEC strains in China. Comparing human isolates with animal-and food-derived strains, it indicates that Stx2e-STEC strains are highly genetic diversity and have the potential to infect humans.

ObjectiveTo explore the clinical characteristics of neurobrucellosis in Kashi， Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region， thus improve the diagnosis and treatment. MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 18 cases of neurobrucellosis who were admitted to the First People's Hospital of Kashi Prefecture between December 2019 and January 2024. ResultsThe study included 9 males and 9 females， with a median age of 36 years （range： 17-54.5）. A clear epidemiological history was found in all the 18 brucllosis patients， 12 of whom presented with meningoencephalitis， 5 meningitis， and 1 encephalitis. Two comorbided with spinal meningitis， 2 osteoarthritis and 1 epididymitis. Most frequently reported clinical symptoms were headache， fever and fatigue. The prevalence rates of brucellosis by rose bengal plate agglutination test （RBPT） and serum agglutination test （SAT） were 11/12 and 8/9， respectively. Two of 10 patients had positive blood cultures， four of 16 had positive cerebrospinal fluid （CSF） cultures and five of five were detected to be positive by next-generation sequencing （NGS） for pathogens in CSF. CSF showed exudative changes and elevated number of leukocytes， with predominance of single nucleated cells. All patients were treated with the combined use of two to four from the drugs like doxycycline， rifampicin， ceftriaxone， cefixime， minocycline， levofloxacin and sulfanilamide. Most patients had a favorable prognosis. ConclusionsNeurobrucellosis should be considered in all patients with central nervous system manifestations from endemic areas. If there are exudative changes in CSF， differential diagnoses can be made by serological testing， blood culture， CSF culture and NGS. NGS could significantly increase the accuracy for neurobrucellosis diagnosis.
