Assessment of salivary gland function plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland disease.Currently,there are several ways to evaluate the salivary gland function including sialography,salivary gland flowmetry,radionuclide imaging,ultrasonography Doppler and MRI.The pros and cons of these different methods were reviewed and analysed.Nowadays,sialography and salivary gland flowmetry are less commonly used clinically.Doppler can be used for screening of salivary gland diseases.Radionuclide imaging is the clinically preferred method,and MRI is one of the most rapidly developing methods for the evaluation of salivary gland function.Proper selection of these methods can provide valuable information for the diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland diseases.

Objective To evaluate contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) in the diagnosis of vascular complications of transplanted kidneys.Methods Twelve patients with vascular abnormalities after renal transplantation were observed and analyzed using CEUS, and the diagnosis of all cases was confirmed by means of operation,pathology or angiography.Results Five patients with renal artery stenosis,2 patients with renal artery thrombosis,3 patients with pseudoaneurysm, 1 patient with pseudophlebangioma, and 1 patient with intrarenal extensive microthrombus were found.The coincidence of CEUS was 100%.Conclusions CEUS is a new method with the characteristics of non-nephrotoxic damage to kidney and comparable with angiography in terms of dynamic imaging.

Objective To explore the psychological experience and the needs of parents who had children with leukemia in order to provide the theoretical and practice reference for clinical nursing work.Methods A qualitative phenomenological methodology was used in this study.10 parents of children with leukemia were interviewed with semi-open-ended questions.The NVivo10.0 software was used to supervise,excavate and seek data.The Colaizzi phenomenological methodology was used to analyze the data.Results Through careful analysis,four themes were identified:leukemia news was like crowning calamity; psychological changes generally varied in different stages; pressure had pluralism as well as the diversity of coping.The demand had multipolarity.Conclusions Attention should be paid closely to parents with leukemia children.The individualized measures should be taken by medical workers in order to provide them with mental nursing and holistic nursing and make them stay in a best health state,so that they can supply better social support for these children.

Objective To investigate the combination of multiple CT signs in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of nodular goiters (NGs).Methods The CT images of 242 pathologically confirmed lesions (＞ 10 mm in diameter) from 188 patients with nodular goiters were retrospectively reviewed.The CT signs,including regular shape,cystic degeneration,clearer enhancement margin,strong enhancement of nodular goiters were compared with those of 236 pathologically confirmed lesions (＞ 10 mm in diameter)from 225 patients with papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs).The sensitivity,specificity and accuracy of different CT signs or their combination in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of NGs were analyzed.Results Regular shape was present in 208 of 242 NGs (86.0％) and in 35 of 236 PTCs (14.8％) (x2 =241.804,P =0.000).Cystic degeneration was present in 143 of 242 NGs (59.1％) and 7 of 236 PTCs (3.0％)(x2 =174.783,P =0.000).Clearer enhancement margin was present in 192 of 242 NGs (79.3 ％) and in 51 of 236 PTCs (21.6％) (x2 =159.318,P =0.000).Strong enhancement was present in 41 of 242 NGs(16.9％) and in 3 of 236 PTCs (1.3％) (x2 =35.108,P =0.000).Regular shape showed the highest sensitivity and accuracy for diagnosis of NGs (86.0％ and 85.6％),while strong enhancement showed the highest specificity (98.7％).The combination of regular shape and clearer enhancement margin showed the highest sensitivity and accuracy of 67.4％ and 80.5％,respectively.The combination of strong enhancement with any of other signs showed the highest specificity of 100.0％.The combination of regular shape,cystic degeneration and clearer enhancement margin showed the highest sensitivity,specificity and accuracy of 45.5％,99.6％ and 72.2％ respectively.The combing of 4 signs showed a sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of 2.9％,100.0％ and 50.8％.Conclusion CT scan is effective for diagnosis of NGs,and the combination of different CT signs can significantly improve the specificity and reduce the incidence of misdiagnosis to avoid unnecessary surgery.

Objective To evaluate the value of ultrasound-guided channel establishment in minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPCNL).MethodsBetween May 2006 and December 2007,85 patients received MPCNL in our hospital.Puncture points were selected and then channels were established under the guidance of ultrasonography according to the distributions of calculi during MPCNL.ResultsUnder the guidance of ultrasonography the puncture was completed at one session in all of our 85 cases.No massive hemorrhage or other severe complications occurred.In the cases,57 cases were cured after the first operation,and 27 cases received a second surgery.One of the cases was diagnosed as having calcification of the renal papillae without kidney calculi during the operation.Residual calculi(

Objective To investigate insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) on the protective effect of infant myocarditis.Methods The serum levels of IGF-1 was detected by two-site enzyme-linked immunosorbent assy ( ELISA) and CK-MB by electrochemiluminescence at the acute and convalescent in 50 infant with myocarditis,and 50 normal healthy children as the controls.Results The serum levels of IGF-1 in acute myocarditis was significantly lower than those of healthy children and the convalescen[(22.90 ±9.30) mg/L vs (45.69 ±10.95) mg/L, (38.99 ±9.06)mg/L,all P<0.01],while the CK-MB was significantly higher than those of the control group and the convalescent[(77.48 ±8.71)mg/L vs (14.99 ±7.62)mg/L,(17.99 ±6.31)mg/L,all P<0.01.IGF-1 and CK-MB was negative correlation (r=-0.62,P<0.01).Conclusion IGF-1 is involved in the repair process of myocardial injury in myocarditis infant,and play some protective role in the mechanism.

Objective To discuss the effect of azithromycin on the airway inflammation in children at high risk for asthma by detecting the serum concentration change of eosinophil cationic protein(ECP), intedeukin-8(IL-8) and nitrogen oxide(NO), and also to explore the effect of azithromycin on secondary prevention of asthma. Methods Two hundred and twenty three cases of primary asthmatic attack with atopy (eczema, family asthmatic history) were collected and divided into four groups(group A, B,C,D) after asthmatic symptoms relief, group A was taken orally with azithromycin(5mg/kg Biw), group B was inhaled budesonide(0.5mg Bid), group C was taken orally with singulair (4mg qN),and group D was only given with symptomatic treatment. The vein blood was sampled on the first day in hospital, before and after medication respectively when treatment of three months was completed. Serum concentration of ECP and IL-8 was obtained by ELISA methods, and NO was measured by nitric acid enzyme reduction method. Clinic service and telephone follow-up was taken for one year. Results After three monthes intervention, there was significant difference in the serum concentration of ECP, IL-8 and NO at group A, B, C compared with group D( P<0.01 ). There was no significant difference in decrease of ECP and NO between group A and B( P > 0.05), but decrease of ECP and NO in group C was significant difference compared with group A( P<0.01). The serum concentration of IL-8 in each group was obviously decreased especially in group A, and difference was obvious between group A and group B,C( P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the cases of asthma recurrence within three months and asthmatic recurrence within one year between group A and group B, group C and group D respectively. Conchlsions (1)The medication of azithromycin might result to decrease the serum concentration of ECP and NO, especially for IL-8 in children at high risk for asthma. (2)The effects of azithromycin on change of ECP and NO in children at high risk for asthma were similar to budesonide, but different with montelukast, while the inhabitant effects of IL-8 were different with inhaled steroid hormone and leukotriene receptor obviously. (3)There was some valid contribution of azithromycin actting on the secondary prevention of asthma in our investigation.

The aim was to establish an effective screening microarray at genus level for Pospiviroid. We analyzed nucleotide sequences from Pospiviroid viroid and designed 19 probes with genus identification characteristics. The standards of these probes included the characters of (i) a GC content between 40 and 60%, (ii) less than 50% of single nucleotide, (iii) less than 4 continuous mononucleotides, and (iv) less than 6 nucleotides in the inner hairpin. We synthesized microarrays by using these probes on glass slides. The validation results of microarray probes show effective signals from chrysanthemum stunt viroid and tomato planta macho viroid standard samples hybridization. The sensitivity results show that the microarray detected 200 pg/microL of total RNA. The microarray can be used to screen Pospiviroid viroid.

Objective To explore the immunomodulatory mechanism of 2-(-2-benzofuranyl )-2-imidazoline(2-BFI) in rat model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).Methods Fifty fe-male Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were randomly divided into five groups by random digit table , including con-trol group(n=10), EAE model group(n=10), low dose 2-BFI group(1.5 mg/kg, n=10), median dose 2-BFI group (3 mg/kg, n=10) and high dose 2-BFI group (6 mg/kg, n=10).The SD rat model of EAE was induced by immunizing with a guinea pigs′spinal cord homogenate ( GPSCH ) .The severity of EAE was scored according to the signs and symptoms .Pathological changes were observed through Hematoxylin-eosin staining, and then the degrees of inflammatory infiltration were evaluated .The number of activated neuroglia that expressed GFAP and iba 1 in lumbar cords was counted by immunohistochemistry .The expressions of IL-1β, IFN-γ, IL-4 and IL-10 in cervical cords were measured by ELISA .Results Compared with EAE group, rats in the low, median and high dose 2-BFI treatment group had lower incidence of EAE , prolonged latency and decreased CNS inflammation , but only the median dose group showed significant alleviation in clinical symptoms and decrease in CNS inflammatory cell infiltration (P<0.05).Immunohistochemical re-sults showed that the numbers of activated microglia were significantly inhibited ,but the numbers of activated astroglia were increased in the rats treated with median dose of 2-BFI in comparison with the EAE group ( P<0.05).Results of ELISA demonstrated that expressions of IL-1βand IFN-γin 3 mg/kg 2-BFI treated group were significantly decreased compared with that in the EAE group (P<0.05), but expressions of IL-4 and IL-10 were remarkably increased(P<0.05).Conclusion 2-BFI at median dose of 3 mg/kg has a benefi-cial neuroprotective effect on rats with EAE , and its mechanism might be related to immunodulation .

Objective To study the variation of serum thyroid hormones in each trimester of pregnancy and their relationship with thyroid peroxidase antibody(TPOAb).Methods Three-hundred and seventy-seven pregnant women in different trimesters were enrolled,the serum TSH,FT3,FT4,TT3,TT4,and TPOAb were determined by ICMA assay.Results Serun TSH in normal pregnant group was gradually increased as the pregnant trimester grew up ( all P＜0.05 ).The median of TSH in positive TPOAb group was higher than that of negative TPOAb group( P＜0.05 ).The prevalences of both clinical and subclinical hypothyroidism in positive TPOAb group were also higher than those in negative TPOAb group( all P＜0.05 ).The prevalences of subclinical hypothyroidism were 23.61％ and 18.04％,while those of clinical hypothyroidism were 0.27％ and 5.84％ by using TT4 and FT4 determination,respectively( P＜0.05 ).Conclusions More attention should be paid to the difference between FT4 and TT4 in hypothyroidism diagnosis during both second and third trimesters of pregnancy.Establishment of normal thyroid hormoues cut-off points in each trimester of pregnancy and screening for TPOAb is necessary.
