Objective To compare medical students' learning curve between Macintosh laryngoscope and optical laryngoscope in endotracheal intubation and to decide which one is more suitable for novice personnel. Methods Totally 26 interns after being trained by experienced anesthesiologists were enrolled in this study. They performed intubation on 6 patients by using both Macintosh laryngoscope and optical laryngoscope ( each laryngoscope for 3 patients) under the supervision of experienced anesthesiologists. The sequence of laryngoscope was determined by computer-generated random number list. Results Totally 149 patients who were ready to receive surgery under general anesthesia were enrolled in this randomized crossover controlled study.Duration of intubation was significantly shorter in Airtraq group (78 -± 33 ) s than in Macintosh group (114 ± 32) s,P < 0.001.Intubation success rate was significantly higher in Airtraq group than in Macintosh group ( 87.8% vs.66.7%,P < 0.05 ).Conclusions With the advantages of rapid learning curve, higher intubation success rate and shorter intubation duration,Airtraq laryngoscope is easier to master for novice personnel.

ObjectiveTo study the changes and clinical significance of serum heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) and soluble ST2 protein (sST2) in children with chronic heart failure (CHF).MethodsThirty-nine children with CHF and 30 healthy children were recruited. Serum levels of H-FABP and sST2 were determined by ELISA, The left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and fractional shortening of the left ventricle (LVFS) were measured by two-dimensional echocardiog-raphy.ResultsIn 39 children with CHF, 15 males and 24 females, aged 2 months to 14 years, included 27 cases of endocardial ifbroelastosis (EFE) and 12 cases of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). According to the cardiac functional grading standard, the children with CHF were divided into 10 cases with cardiac function II, 15 cases with cardiac function III, and 14 cases with cardiac function IV. The mean levels of H-FABP, sST2 and NT-Pro-BNP in children with CHF at stage of heart failure and heart failure remission were statistically higher than those in the healthy children (allP<0.01). The serum H-FABP and sST2 levels had signiifcant differences among groups grouped according to cardiac functional grading standard (allP<0.05). The serum H-FABP and sST2 levels had no signiifcant difference between the EFE and DCM groups (allP>0.05). The Spearman correlation analysis showed that, in children with CHF at stage of heart failure, the serum H-FABP level was positively correlated with NT-Pro-BNP, sST2 and cardiac function (r=0.402、0.621、0.644,P<0.05). Serum sST2 level was positively correlated with NT-Pro-BNP and cardiac function (r = 0.501、0.678,P<0.05), and was negatively correlated with LVEF and LVFS (r=?0.340、?0.329, P<0.05).ConclusionsH-FABP and sST2 are involved in the development of heart failure. H-FABP and sST2 can be used as reference indices for clinical diagnosis and assessment of CHF.

Objective To evaluate in a large open study if Jitongning capsule is potentially useful in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, and observe the safety of Jitongning capsule. Methods Sixty-five patients with ankylosing spondylitis were recruited. Jitongning capsule group were thirty-five patients, using Jitongning capsule at a dose of 4.2 g/d. The control group was using Sulfasalazine. There were thirty patients, using Sulfasalazine at a dose of 2.0 g/d. The Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI), patient’s global assessment, total body pain, spinal pain and night pain, ESR and CRP were measured at 1, 3, 6 months. The primary end point in this study was the proportion of patients with a 20% improvement response according to the ASAS International Working Group criteria (ASAS20 responders) at month 1, 3, 6. Results The study was completed on 56 patients. The treatment group was completed on 33 patients. The control group was completed on 23 patients. Side effects of two groups were uncommon and well tolerated. The ASAS20 was achieved by 66.67% of patients in the treatment group and by 60.86% of patients in the control group at month 6. Conclusion Jitongning capsule can treat the patients of earlier and mid-half ankylosing spondylitis. That is safety and similar to Sulfasalazine.

Objective To study the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of Jingtongning Capsule. Methods Models of acute inflammatory reactions of croton oil-induced mouse ear edema and carrageenan-induced rat raw swelling and chronic inflammatory reaction of cotton ball-induced mouse granuloma in abdominal cavity were performed to study the anti-inflammatory effects of Jingtongning Capsule. Model of acetic acid-induced writhing in mice was used to study the analgesic effect of Jingtongning Capsule. Results Jingtongning Capsule significantly suppressed croton oil-induced mouse ear edema and carrageenan-induce rat paw swelling. Cotton ball-induced mouse granuloma in abdominal cavity was also markedly reduced by Jingtongning Capsule. The writhing times of mice induced by acetic acid were decreased by Jingtongning Capsule. Conclusions Jingtongning Capsule has obvious anti-inflammatory effect on acute and chronic inflammatory reactions. The pain reactions induced by chemical stimulus was significantly relieved by Jingtongning Capsule.

Objective To observe the effect and mechanism of Bush en Tiaojing Decoction (Decocti on for reinforcing the kidney and regulating the menstruation) on ovulation of p olycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) rats. Methods Eighty fe male SD rats were made PCOS models and randomized into blank group, model group, metformin group, Bushen Tiaojing Decoction high and low dose group s, with 10 ones in each and the remainders removed. The changes of serum leptin, ins ulin and testosterone in each group were observed. Results In Bushen Tiaoji ng Decoction high and low dose groups, serum leptin, insulin and testosteron e were all decreased. The effect of Bushen Tiaojing Decoction high dose group wa s similar with that of metformin group in decreasing leptin, insulin a nd testosterone. Conclusion Bushen Tiaojing Decoction c ould improve the ovulation of PCOS rats through regulating leptin, insulin , and testosterone.

Objective To analyze the advantage of altered fractionation radiotherapy by calculating the accumulative effects of daily biologically effective dose (BED) to find out the difference between conventional fractionated radiotherapy and altered fractionation radiotherapy. Methods The data in the report of hyperfractionated or accelerated radiotherapy for head and neck cancer published by Cochrane Collaboration in 2010 was analyzed.Based on the radiotherapy processes mentioned in this report, the accumulative effects of daily BED were calculated and compared in different radiotherapy processes by using linear-quadratic mode. The variation of BED in different radiotherapy processes was find out. Results In total dose of unity as the premise of 70 Gy,altered fractionation especially the hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy could give a higher BED to the tumor during a shorter period, hyperfractionated radiotherapy could give a lower BED to normal tissues, and hyperfractionated radiotherapy with split course could give higher BED to the tumor while lower BED to normal tissues. Conclusions The variation of BED in different radiotherapy processes can be shown clearly by linear-quadratic mode.It can be simple and shortcut through mathematical models for the evaluation of different radiotherapy plan,on clinical symptomatic selection play a guiding role in tumor therapy.
