OBJECTIVE: To investigate the changes of carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and its mRNA expression in rats cochlea after noise exposure. METHOD: Twenty-four healthy Sprague Dawley rats were randomly allocated into 4 groups including 1 control group without contact of noise and 3 experimental groups exposed to a narrowband white noise of 4 kHz, 110 dB SPL 4h/d for 1 day, 1 week and 3 weeks, respectively. ABR thresholds were tested for each group at the time points described above. An immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of CA in the cochlea tissue. Differences in CAII mRNA expressions with and without noise exposure were examined using RT-PCR. RESULT: The thresholds of ABR in noise exposed cochlea were increased compared with the control cochlea (P < 0.01). CA activity and the CAII mRNA expression in noise exposed cochlea were decreased compared with the control cochlea (P < 0.01). The increase of ABR thresholds and decreases of CA activity and the CAII mRNA expression showed a time dependent pattern as the extension of duration exposed to noise. CONCLUSION Noise exposure could downregulate the CA activity and CAII mRNA expression in the cochlea. CA was proably involved in the pathogenesis of noise-induced hearing loss.

The clinical data of two adolescents with unilateral nasal cavity neoplasm were analyzed. Both were male, one was 14-year-old and the other was 17. Both were complained of unilateral nasal obstruction and nasal discharge; The course of disease of the former was one month ,and that of the latter was three month; both were found neoformation in unilateral nasal cavity in medical examination. Occupying lesion in unilateral nasal cavity and sinus were demonstrated in CT scan of two cases. Endoscopy surgery were operated in both cases, incisal opening in labiogingival groove was added in the latter. Pathology of the former was capillary hemangioma and the latter was rhabdomyosarcoma. No findings indicating recurrence has been observed in two cases under 6 months follow-up. Recognition at nasal cavity and paranasal sinus neoplasm in adolescent is essential so that proper management can be initiated.

Objective To explore the effect of domoxifen combined with tamoxifen on ovulation in clomiphene-resistant patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. Methods 100 patients who was resistant to CG were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group (group A) and control group (group B). Oral dosing CC 100mg/d to the patients of group A in the first 3th to 7th days of menses,at the same time,oral dosing tamoxifen 40mg/d in the first 3th to 7th days of menstrual cycle. The dose of CC to group B was same as group A. Beginning to monitor the case of follicular growth during the 8th day of menses. When a ovarian follicle' s diameter beyond 18mm or 2 ovarian follicle' s diameter beyond 17mm, intramuscular injection hCG 10 000IU, sexing after 36 hours later. Observing the two groups of the mature ovarian number,the endometrial thickness, the days of promoting ovulation ,the level of progesterone in serum about the 22th day of menstrual cycle, ovulation rate and pregnancy rate, after injecting hCG.Results The day after injecting hCG, the mature ovarian follicle number,the endometrial thickness, the level of progesterone in serum about the 22th day of menstrual cycle,ovulation rate and pregnancy rate,group A was significantly different from group B( P ＜0.05 ～ P ＜0. 01 ) ,the days of promoting ovulation have no statistically significant differences between the groups (P ＞ 0. 05). Conclusion In the clomiphene-resistant patients with polycystic ovary syndrome,tamoxifen could promote ovulation,improve the effect of CC on the uterus' s anti-estrogen,increase endometrial thickness, elevate ovulation rate and pregnancy rate.

Objective To study the correlation of the adiponectin receptor 1 gene rs1139646C/G and rs10920531C/A single nucleotide polymorphisms with Chinese Han women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Methods For PCOS group (n =80) and control group (n =80),polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to amplify the upstream and downstream 250 bases of rsl139646C/G and rs10920531C/A,respectively.PCR products were directly sequenced.Results For rs1139646C/G loci sites between PCOS and control groups,all were the homozygous genotype CC,and no statistical significance was found for genotype frequency and allele frequency between two groups.For rs10920531C/A loci sites between PCOS and control groups,no statistical significance was found for genotype frequency and allele frequency between two groups (P =0.683,0.580),and no statistical significance was found for two loci with genetic linkage disequilibrium analysis (x2 =0.307,Fisher 's P =0.579610,Pearson' s P =0.579608).Conclusions Adiponectin receptor 1 gene rs1139646C/G and rs10920531C/A single nucleotide polymorphisms have nothing to do with Chinese Han PCOS women.Genetic linkage disequilibrium analysis has nothing to do with PCOS.The rs1139646C/G in Chinese Han population is relatively stable site,and no locus mutation is found.

Objective To explore the value of somatosensory cortex evoked potential(CSEP)monitoring in objective evaluation of spinal cord function and integrity as well as prognostication of neural function after surgery.Methods CSEP monitoring was performed before the operation,during surgical procedure and after the operation in 56 spinal cord surgery patients to observe and analyze latency and amplitude of cortical potential.The significant changes were amplitude reduction≥150%or latency prolongation≥10%.Results There were 71.43%(40/56)true negative finding,both latency and amplitude without abnormal changes during the operation and without new neural functional deficit after operation.There was 0.18%(1/56)false negative finding,latency and amplitude without abnormal changes during surgical procedure,but with new neural functional deficit after operation.There were 26.79%(15/56)true positive findings,where latency transient prolongation<10%and amplitude reduction<50%during surgical procedure were observed.After suspending procedure or changing direction during surgical procedure,the waveform restored or improved.Conclusion CSEP monitoring during surgical procedure could reflect the sensitiveness to distracting,ischemia and injury of spinal cord.A timely intervention might improve the CSEP.CSEP could reflect the function and integrity of spinal cord.CSEP possess an important value in preventing spinal cord injury and evaluating the prognosis of neural function.

BACKGROUND: Icari n as one of the main components of Epimedium has an inhibitory effect on osteoclasts.. OBJECTIVE: To further investigate the influence of icariin on the root absorption of the maxil ary first molar at mesial part during orthodontic treatment in rats. METHODS: Orthodontic root resorption models were established in the left maxil a of rats. Local injection of 200 mg/kg icari n (icari n group) or normal saline (positive control group) was administrated into the left first molar buccal periosteum. The right maxil a of rats served as negative control group that was treated with neither appliance nor drug injection. The mesial distance between bilateral first molars and the contralateral maxil ary incisor was measured before and after the appliance was placed. Mesial surface of the mesial root of bilateral maxil ary first molars was observed using scanning electron microscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Mesial movement of the maxil ary molars in the icari n group was significantly less than that in the positive control group (P < 0.05). Under the scanning electron microscope, smal absorption lacunae were scattered in the icari n group, while the positive control group showed a large amount of absorption lacunae and they were interconnected into a sheet, showing a stark contrast with the smooth root surface of the negative control group. It is indicated that icari n can inhibit root resorption caused by orthodontic treatment, while reducing the amount of mesial movement of the molar under corrective force.

Objective:To survey the relation of different vertical skeletal facial type and the third molar agenesis.Methods:The vertical face type of 207 subjects was divided into high angle(n=45),average angle(n=99)and low angle(n=63)groups by the assessments of MP-SN angle.The assessment of the third molar was made from panoramic radiographs,then the third molar agenesis rate of different vertical skeletal facial types was analysed.Chi-square criterion examination was conducted with SPSS 17.0 software. Results:In the high angle group,whether in the maxillary or mandibular,unilateral or bilateral,the absent percentage of third molar was higher than that in low angle group(P<0.05).In the females the bilateral maxillary third molar absent percentage was higher than in the males(P<0.05).The absent percentage of maxillary third molar was higher than that of the mandibular third molar(P<0.05).Conclusion:The third molar absence depends on vertical skeletal facial type.The absent percentage of third molar in the in-dividuals with high angle type is higher than that in those with low angle type(P<0.05).

Objective To study the effects and its probable mechanism of ultrasound-irradiation docetaxel-loaded microbubbles on apoptosis in human liver cancer cells MHCC97-H.Methods The MHCC97-H cells were randomly divided into 4 groups:control group,docetaxel-loaded microbubb[es group(DM),Ultrasound group (US),ultrasound irradiating docetaxel-loaded microbubbles group (DM + US).The livability,the morphological change of cells,cell apoptosis rate and the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen and MAPK pathway members of each group were respectively detected.Results After 24h,MTT test showed that the livability of MHCC97-H cells of DM group,US group and DM + US group were (76.0±3.0)％,(73.0± 5.0)％ and (52.0 ± 6.0)％ respectively,which was significantly declined comparing with control group (P ＜ 0.05).The morphological of tumor cells in control group remain normal size and grow eugenic,while the cells of DM group,US group and DM + US group decreased,their shapes were irregular,the intercellular space increased,and cells apoptosis occured in the medium.The cells in DM + US group were changed significantly.FCM showed the apoptosis rate of DM + US group was (26.81 ± 2.82) ％,which was declined clearly compared with (2.90 ± 0.99) ％ of the control group (P ＜0.05).Western-blot showed that the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen and p-ERK1/2 protein in DM + US group were down-regulated,and meanwhile p-p38 protein in human liver cancer cells MHCC97-H was up-regulated.Conclusions The method of ultrasound irradiating docetaxel-loaded microbubbles can significantly induce human liver cancer cells MHCC97-H apoptosis by regulating the expression of related protein.

Objective To study the influence of local administration of Icariin on orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR ).Methods After rat models of orthodontic root movement were successfully established,rats were injected with 200 mg/kg Icariin (Icariin group)or saline (positive control group), respectively.Left maxillary served as the negative control group.The resorption pit of root surface was measured using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), HE staining, and tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP ). Results The level of TRAP positive cells and root resorption score in Icariin group were significantly lower than those in the positive control group (P < 0.05 ).Each measured value differed significantly between thenegative control group and the positive control group (P <0.05).The level of TRAP positive cells was significantly different (P <0.05),while root resorption scores did not differ between Icariin group and the negative control group (P >0.05).Conclusion Local administration of Icariin may reduce the degree of orthodontically induced resorption.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prospective efficacy of chronic sinusitis lost to short-term follow up after nasal endoscopic surgery and the influential factors. METHOD: Prospective efficacy of 153 chronic sinusitis (CRS) was evaluated . All cases were treated by nasal endoscopic surgery at least 1 year ago but lost to follow up within 3 months after surgery. The clinical data of 153 patients were analyzed, including gender, age, educational level, course of the disease, smoking and drinking history, early surgery history, allergic rhinitis (AR) history, nasal polyps, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, nasal endoscopy score, CT examination score, the endoscopic experience of surgeons, medication of intranasal glucocorticoid and nasal irrigation after surgery. Multifactor logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the data. RESULT: Among 153 patient, the symptoms of 32 cases (20.9%) were completely control, while those of 74 cases (48.4% ) were partially control, and the symptoms of 47 cases (30.7%) were not controlled. The curative effect were better for CRS without nasal polyps, AR or early surgery history, with CT examination score < or = 5, operated by surgeons with experience of endoscopy surgery for more than 5 years. and treated with intranasal glucocorticoid for more than -1 weeks after surgery. CONCLUSION Postsurgery follow-up should be paid more attention to in treatment of CRS. Plans of follow up should be adjusted to patients condition. Treatment of postoperative sinus cavity should be minimized when the lesion is slight and operated properly.
