Neuroblastoma (NB) is a common malignant solid tumor that occurs during childhood;it has a significant heterogene-ity in clinical symptoms and outcome. NB diagnosis is complicated, and various clinical techniques are often involved in examining im-agery, cellular morphology, immunohistochemical staining, gene and molecule biology, and operation excision scope. Diagnoses are graded based on danger extent, which is indicated by clinical stages and unfavorable prognosis factors. These characteristics are the ba-sis for formulating the corresponding synthetic treatment plan. Limited studies are available on treatment norms for adult cases of NB;such cases are currently diagnosed and treated in accordance with child NB diagnosis and treatment norms. An adult patient diagnosed with NB stage 4 is presented. This patient experienced obvious relief from the symptoms after whole body chemotherapy, with further surgery operation indications. This successful case of multi-disciplinary joint diagnosis and cooperative treatment may provide potential treatment techniques for similar patients.

Objective To evaluate PBL teaching results in medical virology experiment course. Methods Medical students of class 2011 were randomized assigned into PBL group (n=45, 20 five-academic-year students and 25 seven-academic year students) and control group (n=63, 38 five-academic-year students and 25 seven-academic year students). Teaching effectiveness was evaluated by scores of experiment, medical virology examination and final examination. PBL group was surveyed with questionnaire. SPSS statistical software was used and t test was employed to do analysis. Results Scores in medical virology examination were higher in seven-academic-year students in PBL group than in control group and there was no difference in other two examination scores between the two groups. Survey showed that interest motivation, case analysis, experiment design and knowledge grasp-ing in PBL group were highly satisfied. However, evidence-based and generalization ability among seven-academic-year students as well as autonomous learning ability and ability to deduce material among five-academic-year students were not completed satisfied. Conclusions PBL with public health events in medical virology experiment course can develop students' intrinsic motivation, knowledge grasping and public health awareness. However, PBL methods should be adjusted to suit different academic students.

Abstract: Cell death is a fundamental biological phenomenon that is essential for the survival and development of organisms. Cell death can be either a spontaneous programmed process by the host or an accidentally triggered process. According to the different signaling pathway activated by various stimulates, programmed cell death exhibits the lytic or non-lytic morphology. For example, apoptosis, a typical non-lytic form of cell death, exhibits cell shrinkage and induces the formation of apoptotic bodies. Pyroptosis mediated by cysteine-containing aspartate-specific protease-1/11 (caspase-1/11) and necroptosis can induce inflammatory reactions and promote cell lysis to release inflammatory cytokines via triggering the pore-forming mechanism of the cell membrane, representing a typical modes of lytic cell death. In addition, the release of reactive oxygen species caused by the damaged mitochondria may further trigger ferroptosis during the pathogen infection. Programmed cell death can play an immune defensive role by eliminating infected cells and intracellular pathogens and stimulating the innate immune response through the resulting cell corpses. Here, we discuss the molecular mechanisms of five programmed cell death pathways: apoptosis, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, necroptosis and PANoptosis. We describe their roles in the innate immune defense against bacterial infections and give a brief statement of the interactions between the different programmed cell death, hoping to provide new insights for in-depth study of the pathogenic mechanisms of infectious diseases.

Aim To study the preventative effects of noninvasive delayed limb ischemic preconditioning ( NDLIP) on sudden cardiac death in rats with myocar-dial infarction. Methods Thirty healthy SD male rats weighting ( 250 ± 10 ) g were randomly divided into 3 groups:① myocardial infarction ( MI ) group: animal model of MI was established by making surgical ligation of animal LAD. ② MI plus NDLIP group: after the success of the animal model of MI, NDLIP was carried out every other day until 4th week. ③Sham group:as the negative control group, animals were taken heart LAD threading but no ligation. All rats were fed con-ventionally. At the end of 4 weeks, three groups of rats were administered with metaraminol ( 0. 2 mg · min-1 ) . ECG, drug cumulant of sudden death and death onset time were recorded. After sudden death, blood samples were withdrawn from abdominal aorta and serum was separated via centrifugation. ELISA method was used to measure serum caspase-3 , HSP70 and SOD concentration. Results While metaraminol led animal cardiac sudden death, the rats heart rate ( HR) kept declining with the increase of dosage of metaraminol during the administration period. Rat HR of MI+NDLIP group [ ( 479 ± 8 ) vs ( 416 ± 19 ) beat ·min-1 , ( 446 ± 32 ) vs ( 370 ± 20 ) beat · min-1 , (376 ± 53) vs (305 ± 29) beat·min-1, (307 ± 63) vs (244 ± 33) beat·min-1, (283 ± 45) vs (121 ± 35 ) beat · min-1 , P <0. 01 ] was markedly higher than that of MI group at 0 , 5 , 10 , 30 , 50 min before death. Compared with MI group, drugs cumulant to sudden death and death onset time of MI + NDLIP group [ ( 14. 58 ± 3. 03 ) vs ( 10. 76 ± 2. 73 ) mg, (72. 9 ± 15. 2 ) vs ( 53. 8 ± 13. 6 ) min, P <0. 01 ] were significantly increased. Compared with MI group, serum caspase-3 content of MI+NDLIP group was sig-nificantly reduced [ ( 2. 01 ± 0. 52 ) vs ( 2. 34 ± 0. 38 )μg·L-1 , P<0. 01 ]; HSP70 levels were remarkably increased [ ( 3. 01 ± 0. 58 ) vs ( 2. 70 ± 0. 43 ) μg · L-1 , P <0. 05 ]; SOD levels were significantly im-proved [(1. 99 ± 0. 65) vs (1. 70 ± 0. 58) mg·L-1, P<0. 01 ] . Conclusion NDLIP can prevent sudden cardiac death after myocardial infarction in rats, which may be mediated by reducing the myocardial cell apop-tosis, increasing protective protein expression and en-hancing antioxidant capacity.
