Rosiglitazone is one of thiazolidinediones (TZD),an antidiabetic agent which improves insulin sensitivity, but the cardiovascular safety of the drug remains controversial. The new re-evaluation of the RECORD trial has suggested that rosiglitazone-containing drugs do not show an increased risk of heart attack compared to the standard type 2 diabetes medicines, such as mefformin and sulfonylurea. The post hoc analysis of the BARI 2D also indicates that rosiglitazone may not relate with the increased risk of major ischemic cardiovascular events.According to these new results, there is no clear evidence that rosiglitazone may increase cardiovascular risk. The U.S.Food and Drug Administration announced in July 2013 that it is requiring the removal of some prescribing and dispensing restrictions for rosiglitazone-containing diabetes medicines.

Objective To observe inhibition rate of mouse mammary adenocarcinoma(EMT6) and inhibition effect on tumor angiogenesis of Panax notoginseng F.H. Chen and Cordyecps sinensis Sacc. powder. Methods BALB/C mice as bearing cancer animals with subcultured mouse-transplantable EMT6 cell train had accepted intervention treatment by Panax notoginseng F.H. Chen and Cordyceps sinensis Sacc. powder. In this way, inhibition rate of the mouse-transplanted EMT6 by the powder was recorded and the expression of microvessel density(MVD),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2(TIMP-2) in the tumor tissue after paraffin imbedding and section were detected through immunohistochemistry technique. Results The tumor inhibition rates of two designed dose groups were separately 48.95% and 37.64%. MVD and VEGF expressions of tumor tissue in the two group were significantly suppressed while the TIMP-2 expression increased. Conclusions Panax notoginseng F.H.Chen and Cordyceps sinensis Sacc. powder can restrain the growth of EMT6,and the pathway of this function is likely related to inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.

Traditional Chinese Drug Research & Clinical Pharmacology 1993;0(01):-
Objective: To evaluate the effect of RBa-I, an extract of Rosa bracteata Wend1, against withdrawa1 syndrome in morphine-dependent rats and to explore its mechanism. Methods: The mode1 rats of morphine dependent were established. The scores of withdrawa1 syndrome,?-EP level in hypotha1amus and pituitary body were observed to evaluate the effect of RBa-I in rats. Results: RBa-I can antagonize the urging withdrawa1 syndrome in morphine-dependent rats (ora1ly, 5 mg?kg -1 ), and the effect was inferior to chlonidine (oral1y, 0.2 mg?kg -1 ). It can a1so antagonize the natural withdrawal syndrome, decrease the tota1 scores of withdrawa1 syndrome and inhibit the decreasing of body weight. After a seven-day treatment course, the tota1 scores of withdrawa1 syndrome were decreased remarkab1y. The content of ?-EP in hypotha1amus and pituitary body were increased. Conclusion: RBa-I can antagonize the withdrawa1 syndrome of morphine-dependent rats and this may be related to the increase of ?-EP level in hypothalamus and pituitary body in rats.

Objective: To analyze the influencing factors in thrombin titration for the determination of anticoagulant activity of Whitmania Pigra Whitman. Methods: The white porcelain plates were used as the titration carriers instead of tubes in the titration ( called white porcelain method for short) . The effect of different carriers, interval time of titration and thrombin concentration on the results of anticoagulant activity test was studied. Results:Under the same conditions, the anticoagulant activity was more accurate and stable using white porcelain method. Using white porcelain method with 20 u·ml-1 or 10 u·ml-1 as the thrombin concentration and titrating 5μl each time, once every minute, the thrombin consumption volume was linear with the sample concentration within the range of 0. 125-0. 333 g·ml-1(r20 =0. 961 and r10 =0. 992), and the anticoagulant activity respectively was (33. 08 ± 2. 64) and (31. 24 ±1.32) u·g-1(RSD20 =8.0% and RSD10 =4.2%). As for a certain sample concentration (0.333 g·ml-1), the theoretical error of determination was not more than 10% and 5%. Conclusion:The improved white porcelain method is more suitable for determining anticoagulant activity of Whitmania Pigra Whitman with more stable results and accurate end point states than tube method. Under the conditions of 10 u·ml-1 thrombin concentration, titrating 5μl each time, once every minute, the linearity, accuracy and precision are all promising.

International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2009;31(2):121-122
At present, the training pattern in the higher-education institutions of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is still characterized as a trilogy of basic medical theory courses, clinical medical courses and graduation clinic practice, which results in the slow-cultivation of the TCM talent, and brings into the severe problems of theory being divorced from practice and bad social adaptability in the graduates. Under this situation, it is imperative to reform the traditional training patterns and to advocate innovation in the education. It is suggested that creative teachers, students' creative study and a democratic, harmonious, relaxing and easy study atmosphere are helpful to the cultivation of TCM talents. Therefore, a student-orientating training pattern of classroom-teaching synchronized with the clinic practice, emphasizing clinic practice, and aiming to improve the scientific research ability is advocated in higher-education of TCM. This is expected to provide some thoughts for the development of TCM higher education in the new era.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of Pollen Typhae total flavones (PTF) on the mRNA expressions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) alpha, gamma, beta/delta so as to analyze its possible mechanism in improving the insulin sensitivity of 3T3-L1 adipocytes. METHODS: Adipocytes were treated with PTF, and expressions of PPARalpha, PPARgamma, PPARbeta/delta mRNAs relating to the adipocyte glucose and lipid metabolism were determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: PTF obviously up-regulated the expressions of PPARalpha and PPARgamma mRNAs, all showing significant differences as compared with those in the normal control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: With its function as an insulin sensitizer, PTF may enhance the PPARalpha and PPARgamma mRNA expressions in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
