Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of urgent surgical correction for infra-cardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage (TAPVD) in infants and children. Methods From July 2000 to April 2009, seventeen patients with infra-cardiac type of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection received surgical correction in our department. The age of patients ranged from 15 days to 3.7 months at admission, 9 patients ( 52.9 % ) were younger than 1 month of age. The mean body weight was (4.10 ±0.95) kg and was less than 5 kg in 15 patients (88.2%). Deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) without cerebral perfusion was used in 13 patients (76%), and continuous hypothermic low-flow perfusion was used in4 (24%). Incisions on the left atrium and pulmonary veins were sutured without tension, and the width of the anastomosis was 2.5 to 4.0 cm. Results Urgent operations were performed in all patients and no early death occurred during surgery.Mean bypass time was 121.9 minutes ( ranging from 70 to 277 minutes) and mean aortic cross-clamp time was 44 minutes ( ranging from 30 to 74 minutes). 6 neonates had delayed wound closure after surgery and 4 had obvious pulmonary edema. Inhalation of nitric oxide was given to 5 cases for the management of significant postoperative pulmonary hypertension, while peritoneal dialysis was performed in 2 cases with temporary renal failure. Transient atrioventricular block of grade 3 occurred in 2patients and acute renal failure occurred in 2 cases. All patients were uneventfully discharged. The mean ventilation time was 45 h (ranging from 12 to 430 h). Mean duration in ICUs and hospitals were 15 days ( ranging from 4 to 40 days) and 22. 5days ( ranging from 10 to 42 days), respectively. During the period of follow up, one patient presented with pulmonary venous obstruction and recurrent pulmonary infection with increased flow speed at the site of anastomosis, pulmonary hypertension and tricuspid regurgitation on echocardiogram. No improvement was observed in the patient spite of medical treatment and he was lost during follow up one year after operation. 16 patients received postoperative follow up for 1 month to 9 years, mean (51.8 ± 35.0) months. Echocardiography, chest radiography, and ECG were performed during this period. As a result, most children had good cardiac function, with sinus rhythm on ECG and apparently reduced pulmonary congestion on radiography. No obstructive pulmonary venous return was observed on echocardiography. Most patients had good cardiac functions. Conclusion Corrective operation for infra-cardiac TAPVC on urgent basis may provide favorite outcomes. The prognosis is associated with the size of anastomosis between the pulmonary vein and left atrium, as large anastomosis may prevent the obstruction of pulmonary venous retum.

BACKGROUND: There is a great debate but little research addressing the cell suspension obtained from the digested mantle tissues can effective amplify and form pearl sac in vitro, thus producing pearl. OBJECTIVE: To establish an effective technique and method of in vitro separation and culture of mantle of the pearl oyster (Pinctada martensii), and to determine the optimal method of forming pearl sac with the intact structure and secretion function, thus producing pearl. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Single sample observation was performed at the School of Basic Medicine, Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University, between August and December in 2008. MATERIALS: Pearl oyster (Pinctada martensii) aged 1.0 2.0 years, were offered by Yingpan Pearl Industrial Co., Ltd. Of Beihai City, China; the self-modified marine shellfish balanced salt solution; the self-prepared concha pteriae serum and concha pteriae body fluid; keratinocyte growth factor was purchased from Sigma, USA. METHODS: The mantle of pearl oyster (Pinctada martensii) was digested with 2.5 g/L trypsin, the harvested cells were cultured using M199 medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum and supplemented with 10 μg/L keratinocyte growth factor, 10% self-prepared concha pteriae serum and concha pteriae body fluid. The cultivation was performed for 30 days. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Cell growth characteristics and growth state. RESULTS: The pearl mantle epithelial cells cultured in vitro were shown to proliferate rapidly, secrete productively, and the muscle cells showed a great proliferation, finally encapsulated the mantle epithelial cells to form pear sac with the intact structure and strong secretion function. CONCLUSION: Using the modified culture technology and culture system, the addition of keratinocyte growth factor can obtain the well growing and secreting pearl sac during in vitro culture of mantle cells.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2024;45(8):1120-1125
Objective:
To understand the trends and associated factors of tuberculosis knowledge and behavior among freshmen from Jiangsu Province, 2019 to 2022, so as to provide theoretical support for the popularization of tuberculosis knowledge and the prevention and control of tuberculosis in universities.
Methods:
From 2019 to 2022, a total of 33 944 freshmen from 20 universities in Jiangsu Province were selected by stratified random sampling, and tuberculosis knowledge and behavior were surveyed online using a selfdesigned questionnaire. Oneway variance trend test and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the trend of knowledge and behavior levels, and a multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors.
Results:
The overall awareness rate of tuberculosis among freshmen from Jiangsu Province was 90.6%, and the overall awareness rates from 2019 to 2022 were 88.4%, 90.4%, 91.7%, and 91.8%, respectively. The overall behavioral accuracy rate was 92.3%, with the annual rates from 2019 to 2022 being 91.8%, 92.3%, 92.7%, and 92.4%, respectively. Both the awareness rate and accuracy behavior rate increased annually (F=216.67, 11.75, P<0.01). The multiple linear regression analysis showed that school type, ethnicity, fathers educational level, mothers educational level, mothers occupation, family per capita monthly income, and living arrangement in high school affected both personal knowledge awareness rate and personal behavioral accuracy rate (β=-0.047-0.035, P<0.01), while region, gender, family residence, and being an only child only affected behavioral accuracy rate (β=-0.003-0.032, P<0.05).
Conclusions
The tuberculosis knowledge and behavior levels of freshmen from Jiangsu Province have been increasing by year. Targeted health education should be carried out based on the relevant influencing factors to further enhance the tuberculosis prevention and control literacy.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(2):205-209
Objective:
To understand the changing trends and related factors of knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding the three major infectious diseases (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, tuberculosis, hepatitis B) among freshmen in Jiangsu from 2019 to 2022, so as to provide a reference basis for the health education of infectious diseases in schools.
Methods:
From 2019 to 2022, a total of 33 944 freshmen from 20 universities in Jiangsu Province were randomly selected for four consecutive years to investigate their KAP levels online through self designed questionnaires on three major infectious diseases. The multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the changing trends of students KAP levels of the three major infectious diseases, and to explore the influencing factors of KAP.
Results:
From 2019 to 2022, the knowledge scores(18.0±3.1,18.4±3.2,18.7±3.2,18.8±3.2), related to the three major infectious diseases showed an upward trend ( F=436.50, P <0.01), and the positive attitude reporting rates were 81.77%, 81.46%, 82.68% and 81.74%, respectively. The reporting rates of positive practice were 80.11%, 79.25%, 79.08 % and 79.04%, respectively. Multiple linear regression showed that school type, parental education level, mother s occupation, average income per person in family and living arrangements during high school all had an impact on the knowledge ( β = -1.510 -0.559), attitudes ( β =-0.043-0.065) and practice ( β =-0.028-0.027) of the three major infectious diseases ( P < 0.05 ). The family residence areas only affected the reporting rate of positive attitude scores ( β =0.002-0.065), and whether only children or not affected the reporting rate of positive practice scores ( β =0.009)( P <0.05). The knowledge score showed an upward trend ( β= 0.297, P <0.01), the positive attitude reporting rate showed no statistically significant change ( β=0.001, P =0.22), and the positive practice reporting rate showed a downward trend ( β=-0.005, P <0.01).
Conclusions
Freshman in Jiangsu Province from 2019 to 2022 have shown a separation in KAP scores regarding the three major infectious diseases. Targeted measures should be taken to improve their health practice level.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension can frequently result in several complications including subdural hygroma, subdural hematoma and cerebral venous thrombosis, but coma rarely. A case of spontaneous intracranial hypotension presented with orthostatic headaches was described. He experienced somnolence, disorientation, incontinence, and then coma, though received conservative treatment. Brain imaging demonstrated acute-on-chronic subdural hematoma, magnetic resonance myelography using heavily T 2-weighted fast spin-echo pulse sequences showed spinal longitudinal extradural collection, and magnetic resonance myelography with intrathecal gadolinium revealed cerebrospinal fluid leak at the level of T 6, T 7. The patient recovered consciousness after surgical evacuation of the hematoma, and the headache disappeared after a targeted epidural blood patch. The hematoma resolved 2 months later and the patient kept free from headache during follow-up.

Objective:To investigate the effects of microwave radiation on associative learning and memory function and hippocampal structure of mice.Methods:C57BL/6N mice were ramdomly divided into sham-radiated group ( n=27) and radiation group ( n=2). The radiation group was exposed to microwave at 2.856 GHz, 8 mW/cm 2 for 15 min, then their spatial and associative learning and memory function were examined with the morris water maze and shuttle box behavior experiment. The pathological changes of hippocampal tissue were observed by HE staining and light microscope, the ultrastructural changes of hippocampal tissue were observed by transmission electron microscope. Results:After microwave radiation, the times of mice crossing the platform for the reverse space exploration decreased from(3.60±0.79) times to (2.55±0.47) times( t=2.21, P=0.046), the average active escape rate decreased significantly ( t = 2.70, P<0.05), and the average active latency and the total shock time was significantly prolonged ( t = -3.09, -3.02, P < 0.05). At 8 d after microwave radiation, the nuclei of some neurons in the CA3 and DG regions of the hippocampus were pyknosis. The neurons were apoptotic, the synaptic spaces blurred, the glial cells swollen, and the perivascular spaces widened in the CA3 region of the hippocampus. Conclusions:Microwave radiation can decline the spatial reference memory ability and associative learning and memory ability of mice. The morphological and pathological changes of hippocampus are the structural basis of this dysfunction.
