1.Picroside Ⅱ plays a neuroprotective effect by inhibiting cyto C/caspase-9/caspase-3 signal pathway following ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats

Aim To investigate the neuroprotective effect of picroside Ⅱ(PIC)on cyto C/caspase-9/caspase-3 signal pathway following ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)injury in rats.Methods Atractyloside(Atr)was selected as negative control,cyclosporin A(CsA)was selected as positive control,and PIC was selected as the treatment medicine.The I/R model was made by inserting a monofilament suture into internal carotid artery for 2 h,and then reperfused for 24 h.The cerebral infarction volume was detected by TTC staining,and the expression of cyto C,caspase-9 and caspase-3 were determined by immunohistochemical assay and Western blot.Results In model group,the cerebral infarct volume was obviously large;the expression of cyto C,caspase-9 and caspase-3 was increased significantly more than that in sham group(P<0.05).In PIC group,the cerebral infarct volume was significantly improved;the expression of cyto C,caspase-9 and caspase-3 was significantly decreased than that in model group(P<0.05).In Atr+PIC group,the rat infarction volume was reduced,and the expression of cyto C,caspase-9 and caspase-3 was significantly decreased than that in Atr group(P<0.05).Conclusion The mechanism of PIC inhibiting neuron apoptosis in focal cerebral I/R rats might be through down-regulating the expression of cyto C,caspase-9 and caspase-3.
2.2D/3D liver image matching based on curvature signature.

Evaluating the volume of liver is very important to diagnose and cure some liver diseases. We have proposed a method in which ultrasound liver image and 3D standard liver model are combined to estimate the liver volume. The key to estimate liver volume lies in the accuracy of image registration between ultrasound liver curve and corresponding 3D liver model. Because the ultrasound liver curve and 3D model outline did not have the same scale, we used scale invariant signature based on the integral of curvature (SISIC) to carry out the curve matching. This method is not affected by the different scales between the two curves, and the results indicated that the proposed method implements a good performance.

3.In vitro modified cell culture from the mantle tissue of Pinctada martensii and application of keratinocyte growth factor in cell culture

BACKGROUND: There is a great debate but little research addressing the cell suspension obtained from the digested mantle tissues can effective amplify and form pearl sac in vitro, thus producing pearl. OBJECTIVE: To establish an effective technique and method of in vitro separation and culture of mantle of the pearl oyster (Pinctada martensii), and to determine the optimal method of forming pearl sac with the intact structure and secretion function, thus producing pearl. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Single sample observation was performed at the School of Basic Medicine, Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University, between August and December in 2008. MATERIALS: Pearl oyster (Pinctada martensii) aged 1.0 2.0 years, were offered by Yingpan Pearl Industrial Co., Ltd. Of Beihai City, China; the self-modified marine shellfish balanced salt solution; the self-prepared concha pteriae serum and concha pteriae body fluid; keratinocyte growth factor was purchased from Sigma, USA. METHODS: The mantle of pearl oyster (Pinctada martensii) was digested with 2.5 g/L trypsin, the harvested cells were cultured using M199 medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum and supplemented with 10 μg/L keratinocyte growth factor, 10% self-prepared concha pteriae serum and concha pteriae body fluid. The cultivation was performed for 30 days. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Cell growth characteristics and growth state. RESULTS: The pearl mantle epithelial cells cultured in vitro were shown to proliferate rapidly, secrete productively, and the muscle cells showed a great proliferation, finally encapsulated the mantle epithelial cells to form pear sac with the intact structure and strong secretion function. CONCLUSION: Using the modified culture technology and culture system, the addition of keratinocyte growth factor can obtain the well growing and secreting pearl sac during in vitro culture of mantle cells.
4.A meta-analysis on clinical effect of acupuncture for Parkinson disease

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture on Parkison disease (PD) with systematic review in view of evidence-based medicine (EBM).Methods Articles on clinical effect of acupuncture on Parkinson disease published from the database-established year to May of 2017 we searched from China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI),Wanfang,VIP,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM),PubMed,and Cochrane Library databases without language limitation.Quality evaluation and data extraction were carried out according to the tool for assessing risk of bias provided by the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions (Version 5.1.0).All statistical analyses were performed with Reviewer Manager Software (Version 5.3;Cochrane Collaboration,Oxford,UK).Assessments were performed with the total effective rate,the scores of each scale (the unified Parkinson disease rating scales-UPDRS and the Webster scale),and the improvement of different clinical manifestation.Results In all,12 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) met our inclusion criterion,a total of 892 patients,including 468 cases in the experimental group (acupunctuer with or without medicine) and 424 cases in the control group (medicine only).Meta-analysis showed favorable results for the experimental group compared to control group in the total effective rate,the total scales of UPDRS and the modified Webster scale [OR =2.16,95% CI (1.57,2.97),P<0.01;OR =7.20,95% CI(4.02,10.37),P<0.01;OR=3.33,95% CI(2.13,4.53),P <0.01].The experimental group was effective in relieving partial symptoms of PD such as rigidity,postural,gait,bradykinesia compared to the control group,while there was no significant difference in tremor at rest and sit-stand up movements (P > 0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture had certain clinical effect on Parkinson disease,it can relieve the clinical symptoms of Parkinson disease to some extent,and postpone the progression of PD,which improves the quality of life of PD patients.Acupuncture can be recommended as a combination treatment for Parkinson disease.

The delta-opioid receptor (DOR),which is a classic analgesic drug widely existed in the central system and peripheral system,is a kind of inhibitory G-protein coupled receptor with seven transmembrane regions.In addition to pain modulation,the opioid receptors are involved in various physiological and pathological activities through gene or cytokines.This review addresses the influence and possible mechanisms of the delta-opioid receptor in ischemic brain injury,analgesia,anti-anxiety and depression,learning and memory,and Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by degeneration and deletion of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and a pathological feature of the Louis body.The clinical manifestations including non motor symptoms and motor symptoms.Cognitive impairment (CI)is one of the most common non motor symptoms in patients with PD,Which includes mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia.MCI is an early manifestation of dementia in PD.Therefore,early diagnosis and treatment of MCI are very important for the prognosis of PD.The epidemiology,risk factors,heredity,biomarkers,imaging,diagnosis and treatment of MCI in PD are reviewed in this paper.
7.Research progress on non motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a type of degenerative disease of the nervous system.In addition to its typical clinical symptoms,non-motor symptoms mainly include sensory disorders,neuropsychiatric disorders and autonomic nerve disorders,which also have serious effects on patients.This article reviews the performance,mechanism of non-motor symptoms to improve clinicians' attention and improve the quality of life for Parkinson's patients.
8.Two cases of MEGDEL syndrome due to variants of SERAC1 gene and a literature review.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the clinical phenotype and genetic features of two children with MEGDEL syndrome due to variants of the SERAC1 gene.
METHODS:
Two children who had presented at the Fujian Medical University Union Hospital respectively on July 14, 2020 and July 28, 2018 were selected as the study subjects. Clinical features and results of genetic testing were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS:
Both children had featured developmental delay, dystonia and sensorineural deafness, along with increased urine 3-methylglutaric acid levels. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed changes similar to Leigh-like syndrome. Gene sequencing revealed that both children have harbored pathogenic compound heterozygous variants of the SERAC1 gene, including c.1159C>T and c.442C>T in child 1, and c.1168C>T and exons 4~9 deletion in child 2.
CONCLUSION
Children with MEGDEL syndrome due to SERAC1 gene variants have variable clinical genotypes. Delineation of its clinical characteristics and typical imaging changes can facilitate early diagnosis and treatment. Discovery of the novel variants has also enriched the spectrum of SERAC1 gene variants.

9.Prevalence of thyroid nodules among centenarians and its correlation with chronic diseases

Objective To investigate the prevalence of thyroid nodules(TN)among centenarians in Hainan province and explore the association between thyroid nodules and major chronic diseases.Methods A mixed cross-sectional study of questionnaire survey,medical examination including ultrasonography and laboratory examination were conducted in elderly who resided in Hainan province and aged 100 and over,the subjects who have signed consent and complete data in both basic information and medical examination were included in this study.Eight hundred and four centenarians were finally enrolled and data of them was analyzed to investigate the prevalence of thyroid nodules and to explore its association with common chronic diseases by comparing the prevalence of chronic conditions between groups with and without thyroid nodules.Results The overall prevalence of TN was 73.5%(591、804)and the prevalence of TN was significantly higher in female when comparing with male[75.1%(505、672)vs 65.2%(86、132)](P <0.001).No significant correlation was found between the prevalence of TN and major chronic diseases (P>0.05),however,the factors associated with dyslipidemia and anemia such as TC[(4.6±1.2)mmol、L vs(4.3±1.5)mmol、L],LDL-C[(2.8±0.8)mmol、L vs(2.7±0.8)mmol、L],and Hb[(110.6±22.5)g、L vs(105.5±31.7)g、L]were significant higher in TN group than those in Non-TN group(P <0.05). Conclusions The thyroid nodule is common in centenarian population and its prevalence was higher in female than male.The associations between TN and biomarkers of dyslipidemia and anemia are found in the present study.
10.The relationships among atherogenic index of plasma and inflammatory adipocytokines with the severity of coronary artery calcification in coronary artery disease

Objective:The aims of the study were to investigate the relationship among atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and inflammatory adipocytokines with the severity of coronary artery calcification (CAC) score in coronary artery disease (CAD). And then we analyzed the diagnostic value of the new markers on CAC.Methods:A total of 241 patients with CAD diagnosed by coronary CT angiography (CTA) and coronary angiography in Baoding First Central Hospital from June 2019 to June 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. According to the presence of calcification in coronary CTA, they were divided into CAC group ( n=63) and non-CAC group ( n=178). The clinical data of the patients were collected, and the levels of serum inflammatory factors were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The correlation between CAC score and AIP and inflammatory cytokines was analyzed. The diagnostic value of AIP and inflammatory factors in the formation of CAC in patients with CAD. Results:The levels of AIP, serum osteoprotegerin (OPG) and oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) in CAC group were higher than those in non-CAC group, while the levels of serum fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) were lower than those in non-CAC group, with statistically significant difference (all P<0.01). Correlation analysis showed that CAC score of CAD patients was positively correlated with AIP, OPG and COMP ( r=0.581, 0.451, 0.326, P<0.05), and negatively correlated with FGF21 ( r=-0.294, P<0.05). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that AIP, OPG, COMP and FGF21 had diagnostic value for CAC in CAD patients (all P<0.05). AIP>0.387, OPG>5.150 ng/ml, FGF21>136.35 pg/ml, COMP>733.16 ng/ml were independent factors affecting the formation of CAC (all P<0.05). Conclusions:The increase of AIP and the change of inflammatory factors can be used as markers for the diagnosis of CAC formation in CAD patients.
