Objective To study the effects of different factors influencing the quality of life of elderly esophageal cancer patients who returned to the community after surgery. Methods A total of 216 elderly esophageal cancer patients with complete clinical data who had returned to the community after surgery were followed up by questionnaires, including the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life rating (EORTC QLQ-C30) and esophageal cancer supplementary (QLQ-OES18) scales. Results The overall quality of life score of the patients was (35.2±22.1),which was lower than that in the Norwegian norm data.Scores for cognitive function, constipation, diarrhea, shortness of breath and loss of appetite were similar to those in the norm data.Scores for physical function, emotional function, role function and were lower than those in the norm data, while scores for pain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, sleeplessness and were higher than those in the norm data. The overall quality of life score was higher in male patients than in female patients (F =5.12,P=0.029),in patients with spouses than in those without spouses (F=5.61,P=0.016),and in patients without complications than in those with complications (F=5.48,P=0.002).The overall quality of life was higher with longer survival times after surgery (F=3.68,P=0.003).No significant difference in the overall quality of life score was found between different age-groups (F=4.23,P=0.212).Conclusions The overall postoperative life quality is poor in community elderly patients with esophageal carcinoma.Gender, marital status, postoperative survival time, and complications are among the factors influencing postoperative quality of life of community elderly patients with esophageal carcinoma.
7.Stomach cancer stem cells:isolation, identification and characteristics
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(32):5188-5192
BACKGROUND:With the in-depth study of cancer stem cels, increasing evidence has shown that cancer stem cels are the reason for cancer metastasis and recurrence, and therefore it is of great significance to isolate and identify cancer stem cels that can elucidate the pathogenesis of cancer and development of anticancer drugs.
OBJECTIVE: To isolate and culture gastric cancer stem cels and then to detect its biological characteristics.
METHODS: Cancer tissues from 16 patients with gastric cancer were cultured using adherent method and enzymic digestion methods to isolate gastric cancer stem cels. The cel morphology was observed under inverted microscope to drawn out growth curves. Osteogenic and adipogenic ability of cels were also detected.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Gastric cancer stem cels were isolated successfuly by both two methods. Under the microscope, the cels were fusiform- or polygon-shaped. At confluence, the cels grew in a vortex or radial manner. The cel growth curve showed that 1-3 days were latent period, 4-9 days were logarithmic growth phase, and over 10 days were growth plateau phase. Flow cytometry results showed that passage 3 gastric cancer stem cels highly expressed CD90, CD29, CD44, but lowly expressed CD34, CD45 and HLA-DR. After osteogenic induction, calcified nodules were clearly visible in the gastric cancer stem cels at passage 3; after adipogenic induction, bright and tiny fat droplets were seen in the cytoplasm. These findings indicate that cancer stem cels exist in the gastric cancer tissues, and have similar morphology, biological property and multipotent differentiation ability to normal cels, which are probably involved in gastric cancer occurrence and development.
8.Cannulated screw and Kirschner wire fixation for fracture dislocation of tarsometatarsal joint:anatomic reduction and ankle functional assessment
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(31):5026-5030
BACKGROUND:Closed reduction and internal fixation are mostly used to treat fracture dislocation of tarsometatarsal joint, but cannot obtain satisfactory repair effect. Redisplacement easily appeared after local sweling subsidence. Therefore, open reduction and internal fixation are actively used in the clinic to treat fracture dislocation of tarsometatarsal joint so as to restore foot function and to elevate quality of life. OBJECTIVE:To explore the clinical effect of open reduction and cannulated screw and Kirschner wire fixation for fracture dislocation of tarsometatarsal joint. METHODS:A total of 42 patients with fracture dislocation of tarsometatarsal joint in the 88 Hospital of Chinese PLA from September 2012 to September 2013 were selected and were given open reduction and cannulated screw and Kirschner wire fixation. After treatment, the recovery of patients was observed, and ankle hindfoot function was assessed with American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle hindfoot score. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:A total of 42 patients were folowed up for 1-12 months. American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle hindfoot score results showed that there were excelent in 30 cases, good in 10 cases, and poor in 2 cases, and the 2 patients were subjected to high energy soft tissue injury. 37 patients in 4-6 months after operation started weight-bearing walking. Three patients had mild pain, a certain functional limitation, but could maintain normal walking gait. The remaining two patients complicated with traumatic arthritis, and were unable to do normal weight-bearing walking. These results show that open reduction and cannulated screw and Kirschner wire fixation can achieve good effect of anatomical reduction of fracture dislocation of tarsometatarsal joint, and improve patient’s ankle function.
9.Study on correlation between serum HCV-RNA level and Anti-HCV with liver fibrosis indexes in patients with chronic hepatitis C
International Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2015;(1):47-48
Objective To investigate the correlation between serum HCV-RNA level and anti-HCV with liver fibrosis indexes in the patients with chronic hepatitis C.Methods The serum samples were collected in 96 cases of chronic hepatitis C.The HCV-RNA level was determined by real time fluorescence quantification PCR and Anti-HCV was detected by ELISA.LN,PCⅢ and CⅣlevels were detected by the electrochemical iuminescence analyzer and HA was examined by radioimmunoassay(RIA).The correla-tion between the HCV-RNA and Anti-HCV levels with the liver fibrosis indexes was analyzed with the statistic software. Results Among these 96 cases of Anti-HCV positive chronic hepatitis C,52 cases (54.2%)were HCV-RNA positive. With increasing of the S/CO value of Anti-HCV,the detection rate of HCV-RNA was increased, which were 9.5%,37.1% and 92.5%.The differ-ences in HA,LN,PCⅢ and CⅣ levels between the high viral load group and the low viral load group had no statistical significance (P >0.05).Conclusion The positive detection rate of HCV-RNA is related with the S/CO value of Anti-HCV,the higher the S/CO value, the higher the positive detection rate of HCV-RNA.But the HCV-RNA level has no correlation with the liver fibrosis in-dexes.
10.Brushing abrasion of eroded enamel using bioactive glass toothpaste in different time after acid etching
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(25):4022-4026
BACKGROUND:Bioactive glass has good biocompatibility, which can promote the remineralization effects of demineralized enamel and enhance the resistance of enamel to erosion. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effect of bioactive glass toothpaste versus fluoride toothpaste on brushing abrasion of enamel after acid etching. METHODS:Fifty-six enamel specimens were prepared from bovine incisors, and were embedded in acrylic resin with exposed buccal surface. The exposed area was 6 mm×6 mm and two amalgam fil ings were placed into the enamel and polished. Al specimens were divided into seven groups with eight specimens each. In six groups, specimens were brushed with ordinary toothpaste, fluoride toothpaste, bioactive glass toothpaste immediately and 30 minutes after being eroded by the Sprite. The last one group was brushed with ordinary toothpaste without acid etching as control. The treatment course was cycled 60 times. The surface abrasion loss of the specimens between two amalgam fil ings compared with respective amalgam reference surfaces was final y observed and calculated under laser scanning confocal microscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The abrasion loss amount of teeth with no acid etching was significantly lower than that with acid etching (P<0.05). The abrasion loss amount of teeth brushed with bioactive glass toothpaste was less than that with fluoride toothpaste at the same brushing time (P<0.05). For the same toothpaste, the abrasion loss amount of teeth brushed 30 minutes after eroded was less than that bushed instantly after eroded (P<0.05). Use of bioactive glass toothpaste can effectively reduce enamel loss caused by acid etching and brushing. The loss amount can also be reduced by brushing teeth 30 minutes after acid etching.
