The computed tomography (CT) number is closely related to hematocrit level according to many of the previous reports. We measured the CT number in various organs, such as the frontal white matter, basal ganglia, occipital white matter, cerebrospinal fluid, liver, abdominal aorta, spleen, kidney, and psoas muscle. We correlated the CT numbers of the organs with hematocrit levels which were graded into 10% increments (20.0-29.9%, 30.0-39.9%, 40.0-49.9%). Thus the change of CT numbers in various organs according to the hematocrit level was analyzed. The increased CT numbers according to the 10% increment of hematocrit in the frontal white matter, basal ganglia, occipital white matter, liver, abdominal aorta, spleen, and psoas muscle were 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 3.3, 5.3, 3.8, 2.4 respectively. Even though the CT numbers of the cerebrospinal fluid and kidney were not influenced by hematocrit level the CT numbers in most of the there organs postitively correlated with hematocrit level. Therefore, it was concluded that in the differential diagnosis using CT numbers, the hematocrit level of patient must be taken into consideration.

3.Clinical Comparison between Glaucoma Triple Procedure and Small Incision Cataract Surgery using Foldable silicone IOL.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1999;40(3):810-818
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the postoperative outcomes between the glaucoma triple procedure and the small incision cataract surgery using foldable silicone intraocular lens(IOL). This prospective randomized study comprised of 42 eyes which had the glaucoma triple procedure and 41 eyes which underwent small incision cataract surgery at chonnam University Hospital from May, 1994 to December, 1996. At least 3 months follow-up period was needed. Corrected visual acuity of 0.5 of better was obtained in 50% of triple procedure group and 88% of small incision cataract surgery group with the average lines of improved visual acuity of 5.6 and 7.2 respectively. There was no significant change in the refractive cylinder during the early postoperative period in both group. In the glaucoma triple procedure group, posterior capsular opacification(PCO) developed in significantly low incidence in the Mitomycin C using group and the incidence of PCO in eyes with IOL decentration was greater than in those without IOL decentration. In conclusion, patients who underwent glaucoma triple procedure using foldable silicone IOL showed excellent postoperative IOP control with success rate of 81%, rapid visual rehabilitation and refractive stability. We also found that glaucoma triple procedure with Mitomycin C was associated with lower incidence of PCO.

Urethral duplication is rare congenital anomaly. It may be complete or partial, We report a case of PPNG urethritis which limited to the accessory urethra and treated with kanamycin (2. 0gm, im), ampicillin(3. 5gm, po) and probenecid(l pgm, po).

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1985;23(4):462-467
The treatment of gonorrhea caused by beta-strains of N. gonorrhoeae is quite different from that of non-beta-strains, but it is not always possible in general practice to take cultures of gonococci to detect p-lactamase producing organisms. Therefore treatment regimens commonly used for gonorrhoea should be effective against both PPNG non-PPNG strains. Eighty-seven male uncomplicated gonorrheal patients were treated with intramuscular kanarnycin 2gm in combilnation with talampicillin 2. 5 gm plus probenecid 1grn orally. Sixty-seven patients were followed up. All patients recovered. Ten patients among sixty-seven patients had PPNG. A regimen of intramuscular kanamycin 2 gm, talampicillin 2. 5 gm plus probenecid 1 0 gm orally seems to be one of the most cost effective regimens in Korea.

An unequivocal diagnosis of mesothelioma during life, on the basis of limited biopsy tissue or cytological specimens, is frequently difficult and requires distinction from inflammatory mesothelial hyperplasia on the one hand and secondary neoplasms, especially adenocarcinoma on the other. Although some studies have produced conflicting results, it is generally believed that immunohistochemical methods can aid in this distinction. To obtain comparable and reproducible results, 23 metastatic carcinoma of the pleura and 2 unequivocal malignant epiehtlial mesotheliomas were studied by the peroxidase-antiperoxedase method on paraffin-embedded cell blocks, and commercially available antibodies to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), keratin and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) were used. Nineteen metastaic adenocarcinoma (73%) and two mesotheliomas (100%) reacted with keratin and EMA antibodies. Nineteen matastatic adenocarcinomas (73%) reacted with EMA antibodies. Nineteen metastatic adenocarcinoma (73%) reacted with CEA antibody; no mesotheliomas stained for CEA. Two cases of reactive mesothlial hyperplasia showed positive for keratin, but negative reaction for EMA and CEA. Noen of the antibodies used in this study was specific for mesothelioma, but CEA was found to be the most useful marker for differentiating between mesothelioma and metastatic carcinoma.

Korean Journal of Legal Medicine 2013;37(1):1-8
The estimation of age is an important issue in forensic science, and the forensic community has attempted many times to establish methods for solving this issue. Aging leads to alterations in tissues and organs at the molecular level. These alterations at the molecular level may aid forensic scientists to estimate the age of a living person or a dead body. Initially, the focus was on the genetic components of aging, but recently, epigenetic mechanisms have emerged as the key contributors to the alterations in genome structure and function that accompany aging. In particular, DNA methylation is one of the best-understood mechanisms, and it has been suggested as a promising biomarker for age estimation in many studies. In this review, we summarize the recent studies on age-associated DNA methylation changes in different tissues and discuss its possible and practical applications in forensics.
