Objective In order to further improve the noninvasive measurement precision of human blood glucose and achieve clinical requirements, experiments were conducted to measure human blood glucose by a novel measurement method our group proposed. Methods The blood flow of the tested parts was stopped by pressure, and dynamic distribution of transmission spectra was measured by time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) technology under the dual wavelength light incident.Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was conducted on three human subjects, and the early arriving photons were selected by Laplace transform.Meanwhile, the human blood glucose concentration was measured using the Roche glucose meter. Results The best curve fitting was got when the Laplace parameter was 1Gs-1 (determining parameter R2=0.0922).Conclusions The experimental results showed that better measurement accuracy can be obtained by selecting appropriate Laplace parameter, and noninvasive measurement of human blood glucose under flow control of time gate was feasible.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2010;26(4):424-427
Prostaglandin E_2(PGE_2)is one of the major metabolic products of arachidonic acid.PGE_2 plays important roles in various important physiological processes by binding to its G protein-coupled receptors designated EP1,EP2,EP3,and EP4,respectively.EP receptors are highly expressed in the kidney and cardiovascular system, and PGE2-mediated activation of EP receptors plays important roles in the regulation of blood pressure. The abnormal expression of EP receptors in the kidney and cardiovascular system is associated with some blood pressure disease such as salt-sensitive hypertension, renal hypertension, and myocardial hypertrophy.

Objective To theoretically study the non-invasive measurement method of blood hemoglobin in vivo based on the time-resolved approach combined with occlusion spectroscopy. Methods The dynamic dual wavelength time-resolved transmission was analyzed based on the artificial blood flow kinetics condition on a human finger model. The sensitivity of hemoglobin measurement was improved by Laplace transforming of time-domain data. The method was validated using hemoglobin with a mass concentration range of 6~16 g/dl.Results The simulation results showed that compared with the continuous wave method, the time-resolved method could provide higher detection sensitivity using Laplace transform parameter p =5 × 1010 s-1.Conclusions The sensitivity of hemoglobin measurement can be enhanced when early arriving photons are emphasized by Laplace transformingthe time-resolved transmission with a small positive parameter.

ObjectiveTo study the feasibility of analyzing photosensitizers absorbing process by cells based on image processing technology.MethodsFluorescence images of Laryngeal cells were taken by inverted fluorescence microscope after adding photosensitizers for a certain time.Parameter L that reflects the fluorescence intensity of cells in different times was obtained and the calculation results were compared.ResultsThe fluorescence intensity of cells increased over time.Sobel operater and Otsu algorithm can both reflect the fluorescence intensity of images.ConclusionImage processing technology can effectively analyzes the process of photosensitizers absorbed by cells.

Objective To summarize the experience of surgical management of carotid tumors ( CBT ) and application of shunt between common and internal carotid artery intraoperatively. Methods Thirty patients of CBT (mean age:39. 2 ±2. 3 years old,10 male and 20 female, 15 in left, 14 in right and 1 in both sides) who underwent surgical resection, were retrospectively reviewed. The average size of CBT was 4.9 ±0.3 cm. The diagnosis was established by ultrasound, CT, MRI or carotid arteriography. 16 patients underwent surgical resection of CBT, 10 patients underwent additional ligation of external carotid artery, and 4 patients underwent additional intraoperative shunt between common and internal carotid artery. Results Surgical procedures were successfully performeded in all 30 patients with CBT. Intraoperative shunts were successfully used between common and internal carotid artery in 4 patients. The postoperative complications included hoarseness (15) , bucking (11), crooked tongue ( 17) , dyspnea (1), dysphagia(3). There was no hemiplegia and death. Conclusion Surgical resection is the choice of treatment of carotid body tumor. The application of intraoperative shunt between common and internal carotid artery in complicated Shamblin Ⅲ stage is safe and effective.

A novel near-infrared (NIR) diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) has recently been developed for noninvasive monitoring of tumor blood flow during photodynamic therapy (PDT).DCS offers several attractive new features for tumor blood flow measurement such as noninvasiveness, portability, low cost, high temporal resolution and relatively large penetration depth.DCS technology has been utilized for continuous measurement of tumor blood flow before, during and after PDT in both animals and humans. The ultimate goal is to predict treatment outcomes from the measured tumor hemodynamic responses to PDT.

Objective To investigate the clinical effects of liver transplantation including living related liver transplantation for Caroli's disease (CD). Methods Seven consecutive patients with diffused type of Caroli's disease had undergone liver transplantation (LT) from September 1999 to February 2007 in our single center. The clinical characteristics and survival of these patients were retrospectively reviewed. Results All 7 patients were diagnosed as Caroli's disease with diffused type which manifested recurrent cholangitis in clinical symptoms. Among them, 4 were female and 3 male. The mean age was 16 years old (ranging from 10 to 31 years old). Six patients were subjected to conservative therapy and only one patient had previously undergone cholecystectomy and T tube drainage before transplantation. In types of surgery, 4 patients accepted split liver transplantation with right liver lobe, two got whole liver transplantation and only one underwent living related liver transplantation. In two patients venovenous bypass was done during the operation. The mean duration of surgery was 9. 1 h. Post-transplant complications included pulmonary infection (3 cases), acute rejection (2 cases), pleural effusion (2 cases) and biliary leakage in the split section of donor liver (1 case). One patient died within 19 days caused by acute renal failure and multiple organs dysfunction. The rest six patients are alive without any signs of recurrence of protopathy and the longest survival time is 7 years. Conclusion Liver transplantation is a valuable treatment to Caroli's disease with diffused type. Due to the organ shortage, living related liver transplantation may own identical effects on LT.
