1.An Epidemiological Study of 100 Cases of Lung Cancer in Korean.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1975;8(1):1-6
An epidemiological study is to observe and analyse 100 cases of lung cancer in Korean, which had been diagnosed actually at the general hospitals in Korea from 1970 through 1974, to discover the tendency of the lung cancer by sex, age, occupation, duration of clinical symptoms before diagnosis, site of cancer in lung, size of cancer, occurrence, treatment, prognosis, smoking and pathological findings as follows. 1. Males were affected 5.7 times more than females, the peak incidence of lung cancer were 50 years old age group. 2. The occupations of the cases were commerce, agriculture, industry, laborers and teachers, etc. in thht order. 3. The average duration symptoms from onset to diagnosis were 5.5 months. 4. The cancers were affected more right side than left side of the lungs, Particularly the most of them were affected in the upper lobes of the lungs. 5. The average diameter of the tumors was 5.5crX6.5cm, However the largest of them was 10cm X 13cm. 6. The most cases of the lung cancers were occurred primarily. 7. Out of the 100 cases, 58 cases had no treatment, 23 cases had palliative-symptomatic treatment, of cases by special chemo-therapy, 7 cases by surgery, and 5 cases by cobalt 60 or X-gay. 8. In the view point of prognosis, the most cases of the lung cancers died within one year atfer diagnosis. 9. The smoking was one of the causative factor of lung cancer, but there was no significant diferentiation by means of the amount of smoking. 10. The most cases of the lung cancers diangosed histo-pathologically, were epidermoid(squamous) type.

3.Medical Data Privacy Protection Act should be Reappraised.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2007;50(3):204-206
The government had a plan to set up a new medical information law last October, which allows hospitals to share medical records of patients with given consent. The aim of this act is to manage and protect medical information effectively. However, civic groups and medical organizations strongly claim that there is a high possibility of leakage of individuals' private medical information that can raise conflicts of interest under the medical information act. Computerization of personal medical information is essential for the business efficiency, however, it may cause a serious damage to the society as well as to individuals should the information be used without the individuals' consent. In the age of knowledge and information, the improved medical service and its effectiveness via informatization is an unavoidable choice, however, it is also hoped that the issues of human rights be thoroughly considered in the process of medical informatization to prevent a potential aftermath to the people and the society.

The depigmenting activity of 4-isopropylcatechol and hydroquinone, and the behaviour of salicylic acid affecting to the activity were studied. To the hydrophilic ointment base, 4-isopropylcatechol and hydroquinone were incorperated respectively in concentrations of l% and 3%, and to these creams, salicylic acid was also added in concentration of 3% and 5% respectively. These creams were applied topically to the epilated skins of the back of black guinea pigs once a day for 3 weeks. Followings were the results: 1) The depigmenting activity was found to be more potent in 4-isopropylcatechol than in hydroquinone. 2) The depigmenting activity of hydroquinone was found to be remarkably accelerated by the addition of salicylic acid. 3) The skins of guinea pigs were found to be mildly irritated by the application of both 4-isopropylcatechol and hydroquinone.

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1994;5(4):15-23
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical charactoristics of adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix. STUDY METHODS: This study is a retrospective analysis of 103 patients with adenocarcinoma of cervix treated at the Kosin Medical center forom 1984 to 1993. RESULTS: The distribution by stage of disease included FIGO stage I, 51(49.6%); stage II, 32(31%); Stage III, 17(16.5%);Stage IV, 3(2.9%). The 2-year survival results for patients with stage I was 93.5%; stage II was 72.4%;stage III was 46.2% and stage IV was none survived. And 4 year survival results,'83.3/o, 591% and 33.3/o in stage I, II and III, reqxetively. The 4-year survivel rate varied significantly according to tumor size and lymph nade metastasis status-below 2cm 84.2%, 2cm~4cm 75%, above 4cm 0%: (stage I);negative node 91.3%, positive node 40% (stage I). The results of resurrent rate according to clinical stage was 11.8%, 25.8%, 84.6% and 100 % in stage I, ll, III and lV, respectively. CONCLUSION: Treatment strategies should be based on the stage of disease, tumor size, lymph node metastasis status and recurrent.

7.Clinical Effects of Combined Treatment of Prednisolone and Psoralen on Vitiligo.
Yang Ja PARK ; Soon Bok LEE ; Dong Gil BYUN
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1974;12(2):21-24
Although the psoralen therapy has been used extensively on vitligo since the : introduction by El-Mofty on 1948, the result has not been satisfactory. Recent investigations showed that the autoimmune mechanism might be the causative factor to the development of vitiligo, and the use of steroid might be expected to be beneficial in the treatment of this disorder. Authors tried the combined treatment of prednisolone and psoralen on vitiligo and the results obtained are as follows; 1. Repigmentations began to develop from injected area of prednisolone as well as frorn hair follicles and peripheral area of the lesions. 2. More satisiactory responses were obtained on the widespread and symmetrical lesions of shorter duration than on the lesions of localized and long duration.

9.Detection of the Proliferation of Muscle Fibers During Limb Lengthening by Monoclonal Antibody to Bromodeoxyuridine

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1996;31(2):265-269
Soft tissue related complications are quite frequent in limb lengthening. Muscle fibers may proliferate or regenerate after stretching injury over 10-20% of their original length. However, the cells which are engaged in this phenomenon are not confirmed yet. We chased the S-phase cells (phase for DNA replication) in the posterior leg muscle during limb lengthening by immunohistochemical technique. We lengthened the tibiae of fifteen New Zealand white rabbits. We divided them into three groups and each group is consisted of five rabbits. In group 1, we lengthened the left tibiae by 10% of their original length, in Group 2, 20%, and in group, 3, 25%, respectively, At the end of lengthening posterior muscles of lengthened left side and of controlled right side were fixed and processed for Immunohistochemical staining which could detect the incorporation of bromodeoxyuridine(BDU). Labelling index(LI:% of positively stained S-phase nuclei) of group 1 was zero. LI of groups for more than 20% lengthening (sum of group 2 and 3) was statistically significant. In conclusion, nuclei around or within the muscle tissue are in S-phase during limb lengthening which means proliferation of the muscle fivers or of the certain cells that abut muscle fibers.
