Objective To explore the effects of an acute exercise on the contractile protein degradation and 26S proteasome activity in skeletal muscle. Methods Thirty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, each group consisted of 6 rats. They were killed respectively at rest, immediately after half an hour of exercise(running on the treadmill at 25m/min,5% grade),and 1 hour,2h and 6h after one hour exercise. The 3-methylhistidine(3-MH)content,26S proteasome activity and C2 subunit mRNA expression in rat gastrocnemius muscle were detected.Resuits(1)3-MH content increased immediately and 6 hours after exercise, and reached its peak level immediately after half an hour of exercise(P<0.01).(2)26S proteasome activity increased immediately after half an hour of exercise and 6 hours after exercise(P<0.05).(3)Expression of 26S proteasome C2 subunit mRNA Was lower than baseline during and after exercise, but increased sharply 6 hours after exercise(P<0.01).Conclusion The increase in 26S proteasome activity regulated by subunits gene after exercise could enhance skeletal muscle contractile protein degradation

ObjectiveTo explore the influence of mental abacus calculation (MAC) training on children's form recognition. Methods 28 children ( 14 children with MAC training and 14 children with non-MAC traning)were investigated by using event-related potential(ERP) technology. The event-related potentials were recorded when subjects were in the different form shape recognition. Results ( 1 ) The amplitudes of the posterior P1 evoked by the children with MAC training ( (9.59 ± 3.58) μV) were significantly greater than that of the children without MAC training ( (7.06 ± 2.84) μV) ( P < 0.05 ).(2) The amplitudes of right temporal-posterior N170 of children with MAC( ( -9.83 ±2.97) μV) were markedly less than that of children with non-MAC( ( - 12.45 ±2.51 ) μV) ( P < 0.05 ).( 3 ) The amplitudes of prefrontal P3 of children with MAC ( (7.65 ± 2.25 ) μV) were remarkably greater than that of children with non-MAC ( (4.89 ± 3.35 ) μV) ( P < 0.05 ).ConclusionThe brain function of form recognition in children is influenced by mental abacus calculation training.

ObjectiveTo investigate the changes in liver function and the efficacy of either hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS) or open splenectomy (OS) in combination with pericardial devascularization in the treatment of portal hypertension. MethodsThe clinical data of 94 patients who received splenectomy combined with pericardial devascularization to treat portal hypertension due to cirrhosis from Jan 2002 to May 2008 were analyzed retrospectively. 56 patients received OS and 38patients HALS. The operating time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative complications, liver dysfunction and mortality were analyzed according to the Child's grading. ResultsThere was no difference in the operating time between HALS and OS (P>0. 05). The intraoperative blood loss and postoperative complications were 5.6% and 10.8%, respectively (P<0. 05). There was no significant difference in the serum ALT between HALS and OS, but there was a significant difference in the ALB (P<0. 05). The AST also had a significant difference on postoperative day 5 (P<0. 05). The serum ALT and AST were elevated after HALS, but there was a significant difference only for AST (P<0.05). The serum ALT and AST in OS were significantly higher after than before operation (P<0. 05). The serum ALB in OS was significantly lower after operation (P<0.05), but it was significantly lower only on postoperative days 1 and 3 (P<0.05) in HALS. ConclusionsCompared with OS, HALS combined with pericardial devascularization caused less damage to the intestinal tract and the liver function. It is a feasible and safe operation and it had fewer postoperative complications.

AIM To study the tissue distribution of strychnos nux vomica alkaloids in rats. METHODS Rats were given strychnos nux vomica alkaloids intravenously and strychnine(S), brucine(B), strychnine N oxide(SNO), brucine N oxide(BNO) in every tissue was determined by HPLC timely. RESULTS The concentration of S, B, SNO and BNO were high in brain and spinal marrow. CONCLUSION S, B, SNO and BNO all have the ability to permeate blood brain barrier.

Objective To investigate levels of IL-17 and IL-22 mRNA in the blood of type 2 diabetes(T2DM)patients with the different stages of kidney injury and explore the relationship between the gene expression levels of IL-17,IL-22 and renal lesions in patients with diabetic nephropathy(DM).Methods Subjects included 60 T2DM patients with or without kidney injury and 20 normal controls(NC,n=20).Diabetes patients were divided into 3 groups by level of urinary albumin to creati-nine ratio (ACR):no proteinuria group (NA,ACR<30 mg/g,n=22),microalb uminuria group (MA,30 mg/g>ACR>300 mg/g,n=18)and diabetic nephropathy group (DN,ACR>300 mg/g,n=20).Quantitative Real-Time RT-PCR was used to detect IL-17 and IL-22 mRNA levels.Analysis differences of IL-17 and IL-22 mRNA levels among NA,MA,DN and NC groups. Results The levels of IL-17 and IL-22 mRNA were significantly higher in DN group than that in MA,NA and NC group (P <0.01,respectively),However,there were not significant difference among MA,NA and NC group (P >0.05,re-spectively).Conclusion Levels IL-17 and IL-22 mRNA were increased in blood of T2DM patients with nephropathy.IL-17 and IL-22 may play role in the pathogenicity of diabetic nephropathy.

ObjectiveTo investigate the protective effect and mechanism of monosialotetrahexosyl gangliosides ( GM-1 ) on neurons after spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats by observing the effect of GM1 on the expression and motor function of microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP-2) and Choline acetyltransterase (ChAT). MethodsSixty-six adult female Wistar rats (weighing 260-300 g) were enrolled in the study and six were selected randomly as the normal control group. The rest were divided into GM1 group (group A, n =30) and normal saline control group (group B, n =30) after acute contusion injury was made at T10 level according to the improved Allen's method. At days 1,3, 7, 14 and 28 after operation, the neurological function of the low extremities was assessed with the improved Tarlov scale. Then, the rats were sacrificed to obtain the spinal cord tissues. There were six rats in each group at different time points. The expressions of MAP-2 and ChAT were detected with immunohistochemistry after SCI in rats. ResultsThe improved Tarlov scale in the Group A was higher than that in the Group B after SCI since the 7th day after operation, with statistical difference at day 7, 14 and 28 after operation ( P <0. 05). The expressions of MAP-2 and ChAT in the Group A were higher than that in the Group B after SCI ( P < 0.05 ). ConclusionsThe neurological function recovery of the low extremities has some correlations with the expressions of MAP-2 and ChAT after SCI in the rats. GM-1 can protect the neurons by promoting the expressions of MAP-2 and ChAT after SCI.

Methods Sixty-four patients, 71 cases adult intraspinal extramedullary benign tumors were removed by the disposable whole laminectomy, laminoplasty and microsurgical tumor removal operation, all postoperative patients were followed up to observe the clinical efficacy. Results Patients with small tumors and large tumors all had a faster recovery of neurological function than preoperative, recent and long-term efficacy were all better than preoperative, and long-term efficacy was superior to short-term efficacy; Patients with giant tumors had a slow-er recovery of neurological function than preoperative, short-term efficacy was not better than preoperative, but the long-term efficacy was superior to preoperative. Conclusion The disposable whole laminectomy, laminoplasty and microsurgical tumor removal is an excellent method of treating intraspinal extramedullary be-nign tumors.
