Spinal ventral roots of 10 infants were examined. Eight pairs of spinal ventral roots were cut off from 10 infant cadavers including the following segments: C_6, C_7,T_5, T_(11), L_3, L_5, S_1, and S_2. Serial longitudenal sections were prepared and stained with Niss's method. The presence of sensory neurons were recorded and their num- ber were counted. The results were as follows:Nerve cells in the spinal ventral roots were found in all the cases examined.The minimal number was 58 cells in No. 8, and the maximal number was 203 in No. 10. There were altogether 1,446 cells found in 117 spinal roots, and no cell in 35 roots. The highest number of nerve cells observed in a single root was 83.The nerve cells were scattered all over the spinal ventral root from its attachment to the spinal cord to its junction with the dorsal root. More cells were found in its distal extremity close to the spinal ganglion. They appeared singly, in groups of two or three, or in a cluster looking like a small ganglion. They were usually distributed among the nerve fibers, or around the blood vessels, or beneath the epineurium of the ventral root. They were ovoid in shape, with the long axis paralleling the course of nerve fibers. Nuclei were round in shape, Nissl granules were evenly distributed in the cytoplasm. They were different in sizes, ranging from 15 to 60 ?m. There were 808 cells (56%) more than 30～50 ?m. 607 cells (42%) less than 30 ?m, which accounted 98% of the total cell population.

Objective To introduce the experience of applying horns percutaneous tracheostomy in critically ill neurosurgical patients. Methods The size of operative incision, operation time, amount of blood loss, incision healing time , and incidence of complications were analyzed retrospectively in 95 patients with GWCH and 83 with ST. Results There were smaller size of operation incision [(1.6 ± 0.4) cm vs. (3.8 ± 0.9) cm], shorter operation time [(4.4 ± 2.8) min vs. (20.5 ± 5.2) min], less blood loss [(4.5 ± 0.8) mL vs. (8.5 ± 4.5) mL] and shorter incision healing time [(3 ± 0.5) d vs. (5 ± 1.5) d] in GWCH group than that in ST group and the difference was statistical significant (P < 0.01). The incidence of incision blood leaking after operation was lower in GWCH group (2.1%) than that in ST group (16.9%) and the incidence of incision sputum leaking was lower in GWCH group (1.1%) than that in ST group (14.5%), but no difference was found in terms of the incidence of other complications (P > 0.05). Conclusions When compared with traditional ST, horns percutaneous tracheostomy is with smaller incisions , shorter operation time , less blood loss , faster healing and lower incision sputum leaking and is worthy of popularization in critically ill neurosurgical patients.

This study investigated the impact of NS398 on anti-proliferation and the induction of apoptosis in human osteosarcoma cell line MG-63.Methods:Cell proliferation is measured by MTT method.Characteristic changes of apoptosis in morphology are observed by fluorescence microscopy、transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and quantitatively by TDT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end-labeling(TUNEL) assay.The apoptotic rates are calculated by flow cytometry(FCM).Results:The growth inhibition rates of MG-63 cells treated with 1,10,50,100 and 200 ?mol/L NS398 are 14.7%,23.5%,33.6%,52.5% and 81.4%,respectively(P

Objective To discuss about the establishment of mental depression model by traumatic brain injury in rats,and to evaluate the validity of this model.Methods The study was carried out in the experiment center of Wuhan University.A total of 48 male adult Wistar rats were randomized ( random number) into four groups ( n =12,each):( 1 ) in sham operation group,six rats were fed normally in one cage; (2) in model group,the model of the left frontal lobe contusion was made up by hitting with free-fall method on the left cortex of the rat,and subsequently the each of model rats were separately fed in a cage and put them in a lonely environment with chronic stress one week after traumatic brain injury in order to induce them into models of mental depression; ( 3 ) in brain trauma group,the trauma model of the left frontal lobe contusion was set up by the same procedure as in model group,and six rats were fed together in one cage; (4) in CUMS group,each rat was fed normally in one cage in a lonely environment after brain trauma made and chronic mild chaotic stress unpredictable to rats was given to induce mental depression.The consumption of sucrose water and the change of animal behavior were observed and the high performance liquid phase electrochemical with fluorescence detector was used to detect the biogenic monoamine neurotransmitter content (dopamine,serotonin and norepinephrine) in the hippocampus,prefrontal cortex,hypothalamus and striatum area in each group.Experimental data were processed with single factor analysis or t test of variance by Statistical Program for Social Sciences Version 13.0 (SPSS13.0) software.P ＜0.05 was considered as statistically significant difference.Results After modeling,the rats of four groups were examined by behavioral tests.It was found that the amount of sugar-water consumption by the rats in the model group and CUMP group decreased,implying the absence of interest in eating and anhedonia of the rats in these groups.In open-field test,the rats in the model group,CUMP group and brain trauma group showed reduction in square crossing and rearing,implying the under-activity and absence of interest in activity.In the water maze test,it was found that the rats in the model group,CUMP group and brain trauma group needed much time to reach the end-point and made many errors,implying the lowering ability to learn and memorize.Levels of dopamine,serotonin and norepinephrine in the hippocampus,prefrontal cortex,hypothalamus and striatum area decreased in these rats with traumatized brain in three groups especially in model group and CUMP group.Conclusions It is a valid method for establishing the mental depression model in rats by traumatic brain injury with separately feeding in the lonely environment and given chronic mild chaotic stress unpredictable to rats on the setting of the left frontal lobe contusion.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of recombinant human erythropoietin(rhEPO)on brain mitochondrial energy metabolism and mitachondrial respiratory functionin after brain injury in rats.Method A total of 63 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into three groups:the rhEPO treated group(n =28),the control group(n=28),the shanl group(n=7).The models of contusion of brain caused by freefalling were set up in rhEPO treated group(n=28).The recombinant human erythropoietin was intraperitoneally injected in dose of 10 U/g immediately after brain injury and it was repeated every 10 hours in rhEPO group treated.The same models of contused brain were made without rhEPO treatment as control group(n=28).In control group,the same volume of normal saline was used in replacemem of rhEPO.Aburr hole was made on the skull of the sham group(n=7),but the brain tissue was not wounded.The mitochondria were isolated at 6 h,12 h,24h,48 h after trealment,respectively.The activity of ATPase and SOD,the content MDA and brain mitochondrial respiratory function were measured by biochemical technique.The data were analyzed with the F-test and t-test.Results The activity of ATPase(P＜0.05),SOD(P＜0.01)and brain mitochondrial respiratory function(P ＜0.05)were increased.and the levd of MDA in brain mitochondria was reduced markedly in rats treated with rhEPO.Conclusions Treatment with rhEPO can alleviates the secondary brain injury by affecting mitochondrial function.

Objective To evaluate the expression of KAII (CD82) gene inhibited by small interfering RNA (siRNA) in human pancreatic cancer cell line T3. Methods Four sequences of siRNA including A, B,C, D were designed, which were based on the KAI1 gene sequence using online RNA interfering designing software and lentivirus vector was built. Then they were used to transfect T3 cells by liposome 2000 and virus titer was determined. Empty vector containing siRNAd1 lentivrus particle ( MOI =5) was also used to infect T3 cells. The expression of CD82 mRNA was detected by real-time PCR. Results The expression of CD82 mRNA in normal control group, empty vector group, A group, B group, C group, D group were 1. 398 ±0.242,1. 311±0.048, 0. 664 + 0. 093, 0. 345 ± 0. 032, 0. 641 ± 0. 049 and 0. 147 ± 0. 049, respectively, the difference between the expression of CD82 mRNA in empty vector group and that of A, B, C, D groups was significant (P＜0.01 ). Conclusions RNAi was able to inhibit the expression of KAI1 gene CD82 in human pancreatic cancer cell line T3.

Objective To compare the diagnostic significance of pleural SLPI,IFN-γ and ADA for differenti-ating TPE from pleural effusions with the other etiologies. Methods Pleural effusion samples were obtained from 93 patients who were divided into the following groups: tuberculous pleural effusion,malignant pleural effusion, bacterial pleural effusion and transudative pleural effusion. The pleural effusion and/or serum levels of SLPI , IFN-γand ADA were determined. Results 1.The concentrations of SLPI, IFN-γand ADA in tuberculous pleural effusion was higher than that in malignant group, bacterial group and transudative group. 2. The diagnostic value of SLPI, IFN-γor ADA for the diagnosis of tuberculous PE is high respectively. The combinations of SLPI, IFN-γand/or ADA gained the more valuable diagnostic performance. Conclusion Pleural SLPI, IFN-γand ADA may be helpful for the differential diagnosis of tuberculous pleural effusion and the other pleural effusion. The combinations of SLPI or/and IFN-γor/and ADA further increased diagnostic value.

Objective Detecting of spermatozoal total RNAs by laboratory on chip gel electrophoresis so that it could provide better total RNAs for the sequent experiments, and spur the development of spermatozoal molecular biology. Methods Sperms of healthy adults were collected and then total RNAs were extracted by RNeasy mini kit(QIAGEN), detection and quality control were performed by loboratory on chip gel electrophoresis system. Meantime, the control RNAs were extracted from lymphocytes. Results It was found that there were a plenty of genes expressed in healthy sperms. Electrophoretic graphs showed that the total RNAs of spermatozoal had 2 bands which went ahead a little comparing to the normal somatic cells. The former peak appeared keenness, and the latter was broad and showed like a reversed U. The ratio of them was largely more than 2, no extra peaks were found in electrophoretic graph. Conclusion A simple,intuitionistic method to detect and control the quality of the healthy adults' spermatozoal total RNAs had been successfully constructed by using laboratory on chip gel electrophorosis.

This paper reports the diagnosis and therapy of one case of Dipylidium caninum infection in an infant.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and effect of foley catheter traction for hemorrhage after postmicrochannel percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPCNL). METHODS: Eighty-eight patients with upper urinary calculi were collected prospectively at the Department of Urology of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from November 2010 to June 2011. The patients underwent mPCNL, and were divided into 2 groups randomly: 45 patients with 16F foley catheter but without traction served as the control group, and the other 43 patients with 16F foley catheter traction served as the experiment group. Blood loss was estimated by the mass of hemoglobin in the draining liquid and urine during postoperative duration through the HiCN. The blood loss and bleeding time were compared in the 2 groups, and analyzed by Wilcoxon rank sum test. RESULTS: There was statistical difference in the average blood loss between the control group (13.830 g) and the experiment group (7.959 g, P<0 .001). The mean bleeding time was 4 and 3 days in the control group and the experiment group respectively. CONCLUSION Foley catheter traction for mPCNL can reduce the blood loss, suggesting that Foley catheter traction is safe, effective and feasible.
