Journal of Practical Stomatology 2000;0(06):-
Objective: To study the influences of electrolytic voltages on chromatics of anodized titanium. Methods:Titanium specimens were anodized in 0.5 mol/L sulfuric acid and 0.2 mol/L phosphate acid electrolyte using different voltages. The colors of anodized titanium were measured with a computer controlled spectrophotometer, and then evaluated in the CIE1976L*a*b* uniform color scale and Mussell notation. Result: One given volt created one distinguished color. The chromatic values expressed in L*a*b* were fluctuated in different voltage conditions. The hues in Mussell notation were distributed widely within R,Y,G,P of 5 basic colors and YR,GY,BG,PB of 5 interspace colors in the range of 5 to 80 volts. Anodizing with 10 or 45 volts, the specimen's colors appeared two kinds of brilliant goldish yellow, the former reddish slightly and latter greenish a little. The spectrums of the two colors were in the range of wavelengths of yellow to red. Conclusion: The color of the anodized titanium is dependent upon the volts applied. The goldish yellow may be used to improve the esthetics of titanium dentures.

ObjectiveTo study the effect of heat stress on the cytoskeleton and cell cycle of human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) in vitro. Methods HUVEC was cultured in vitro in 5%CO2 medium at 37℃ (control group) or 43℃ (heat stress group) for 1 hour. Coomassie brilliant blue R-250 staining was used to determine the effect of heat stress on the cytoskeleton. The cells in heat stress group were subsequently cultured at 37℃in 5%CO2 medium after heat stress for 1 hour, and cell cycle of HUVEC was determined at 0, 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours with flow cytometry. Results Under light microscopy normal cytoskeleton was observed in control group, but thicker and shorter cytoskeleton was found after a rise of temperature, and stress fibers were found in heat stress group. The DNA content of HUVEC at all time points in G0/G1 stage was 38.07%-55.19% after heat stress. The DNA content in control group was 48.57%, and it was 54.06%, 55.19%, 48.23%, 38.07%, and 41.03% at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 hours in G0/G1 stage in heat stress group. DNA content in S phase was 35.33%-48.18%. The DNA content in control group was 44.62%, and it was 35.33%, 39.50%, 42.50%, 48.18%, and 47.99% at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 hours in S stage in heat stress group. DNA content in G2/M phase was 5.31%-13.75%. The DNA content in control group was 6.81, and it was 10.61%, 5.31%, 9.27%,13.75%, and 10.98% at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 hours in G2/M stage in heat stress group. It was demonstrated that compared with control group, the DNA content in G0/G1 stage was significantly increased when the HUVEC were separated from heat stress within 6 hours, and it recovered at a similar level as control group at 12 hours. Conclusion Heat stress can change the cytoskeleton of HUVEC, and cause stagnation at G0/G1 stage in cell cycle.

To study the prevalence of Helicobacter Pylori (H. pylori) infection, according to ethnicity, gender and
endoscopic findings among the patients underwent the oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopes (OGDS) at
gastroenterology endoscopy unit, Hospital Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. The database of all whom
underwent OGDS at the gastroenterology endoscopy unit, Hospital Serdang from 1st August 2010
to 31st July 2012 was collected and assessed, retrospectively. A total of 924 patients who underwent
OGDS were analyzed for the H. pylori infection by using Campylobacter-like organism (CLO) test. 130
(14.07%) tested positive, and their data were further studied according to gender, ethnicity, age group,
initial indication for OGDS and endoscopic finding. The prevalence rate among males was 15.15%
(70/462), while it was 12.99% (60/462) among females. In terms of ethnics, H. pylori infection was
commonly found among Indian and Chinese with prevalence rate of 25.13% (50/199) and 17.41%
(51/293) respectively. These figures are significantly higher than the 6.01% (25/416) for Malays. The
age group (31-50 years old) had the highest prevalence rate of H. Pylori infection, which is of 18.55%
(41/221). No significant difference was observed among initial indications for OGDS. Erosions were the
commonest finding in H. pylori positive group with rate of 51.54% (67/130). However, erosions were
not uncommon in H. pylori negative group as well with the rate of 48.61% (386/794). H. pylori infection
rate among Malaysians was generally low, with the highest rate in Indians, followed by Chinese and
relatively low in Malays. No significant difference between the prevalence rate of H. pylori infection
in male and that in female was found. Erosions were equally common in either H. pylori positive or H.
pylori negative group.

Objective To observe the effect of Xiaoyingqiangjitang on the ultrastructure of motor end-plate of skeletal muscle in rats with hyperthyroid myopathy, and changes of acetylcholin esterase (AchE).Methods The 36 healthy female Wistar rats were randomly divided into the normal control group (n=6), and model group, Chinese medicine treated group and saline control group (all n=10). All animals in the model group, Chinese medicine treated group and saline control group were treated with group given L-thyroxine intraperitoneal injection for 42 days to establish the animal model of hyperthyroid myopathy. The animals of the Chinese medicine treated group were treated with Xiaoyngqiangjitang for 30 days after L-thyroxine intraperitoneal injection. The enzyme activity of AchE and ultrastructure of motor end-plate were observed by light and electron microscopes. Results The enzyme activity and content in the group of hyperthyroid myopathy was decreased, the reaction products of AchE located in synapse became weaker and distributed heterogeneously, the junction infolding of motor end-plate became smaller and shorter, the mitochondria in axon terminal became vacuolated. After given Chinese medicine, the enzyme activity and content increased, the junction folding, the mitochondria showed normal ultrastructural appearance. Conclusion Xiaoyingqiangjitang can improve the function of skeletal muscle in hyperthyroid myopathy by recovering the enzyme activity of AchE and ultrastructures of motor end-plate.
