Endophytic fungi which reside in the tissue of mangrove plants seem to play an important role in the discovery of new biologically active substances. During the course of screening for the antimicrobial metabolites from the endophytic fugus Penicillium sp. FJ-1 of mangrove plant Avicennia marina, a new aurone glycoside (1) was isolated by repeated column chromatography on silica gel and recrystallization methods. The structure of 1 was elucidated as (Z)-7,4'-dimethoxy-6-hydroxy-aurone-4-O-β-glucopyranoside, on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Compound 1 exhibited antifungal activity against Candida sp., with the potency comparable to amphotericin B and much better than fluconazole. Compound 1 can also inhibit extracellular phospholipase secretion in a concentration-dependent manner.

Chinese Journal of Urology 2001;0(04):-
Objective To study the diagnosis and treatment of testicular cancer in cryptorchids. Methods The data of 10 patients with cryptorchid tumor treated at our hospital between 1986 and 2003 were retrospectively analyzed.Their average age was 40 years (range,32~55 years).Of these patients,1 had the testis in the inguinal area;3,in the scrotum (with a history of inguinal cryptorchidism) and 6,in the abdomen.Cryptorchidism occurred on the left in 2 cases,on the right in 5 and bilaterally in 3.Three patients presented with stage Ⅰ A disease,5 with stage Ⅰ B,and 2 with stage Ⅱ D. Results All the 10 patients received surgical treatment including radical tumor resection, radical tumor resection with retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND),and palliative operation.Pathology showed that 9 cases had seminoma and 1 had seminoma accompanied by embryonic carcinoma.Radiotherapy was performed in 8 cases, and radiotherapy plus chemotherapy,in 2 (including 1 with embryonic carcinoma).Postoperatively,6 patients were followed up for 6 months to 14 years with a mean of 5.2 years;these patients showed no evidence of tumor recurrence and metastasis. Conclusions Cryptorchid testes have a greater risk of malignant change than do normally descended testes, and early intervention is advocated to prevent malignant canceration.Even treated with orchidopexy or orchiectomy, the patient should be followed up lifelong. Most of cryptorchid tumors are seminomas, and the ideal treatment strategies are tumor resection and radiotherapy.

Objective To investigate the relationship and mechanism between the serum level of high mobility group box protein-1(HMGB1)and the mortality rate in patients with sepsis. Methods The serum levels of HMGB1,superoxide dismutase(SOD)and malondialdehyde(MDA)in 48 patients with sepsis were determined. The clinical outcomes in those patients were recorded and anlyzed. Results After the onset of sepsis, the serum HMGB1 levels of both death group and survival group were increased gradually and peaked at 72h after the onset of the disease. The semm HMGB1 levels of death group were much higher than those of survival group except at 24h(t=6.07,6.20,24.43,all P<0.05).The activity of serum SOD of death group was markedly lower than that of survival group at 12h,24h,48h and 72h(t=10.24,20.61,11.67,33.33,all P<0.05),and the level of serum MDA of death group was significantly higher than those of survival group at all time points(t=26.06,22.17,23.86,9.49,5.95,all P<0.05).There was a significantly positive correlation between the serum HMGB1 and MDA level.Conlusioa The increase in serum HMGB1 level may be the important reasoll for the increased mortality rate in patients with sepsis;Oxidant/antioxidant imbalance may be olle reason for the increase in serum HMGB1 level.

Objective To explore the technique of massive facial scar revision. Methods All 12 patients in the group were treated with expanded deltopectoral skin flap. In the primary surgery, expander was implanted underneath deltopectoral flap region through an incision inferior to the clavi-cle. The skin perforators of transverse cervical artery and thoracoacromial artery were ligated during surgery, and the internal thoracic artery was carefully preserved. After the deltopectoral skin flap was fully expanded, the second surgery was performed and the facial scar was released and the normal ana-tomic position of eyes, nose and month was restored. The deltopectoral skin flap was planed according to the size of the defect. The excised facial scar was converted to the flap pedicle and a hinge-like con-nection was formed. The flap was delayed and three weeks after the second surgery, the pedicle was divided. The flap from the pedicle was applied for the mental region scar revision. Results Unilateral or bilateral dehopectoral skin flaps were employed for the repair of extensive facial scar in 12 patients. Satisfactory results were achieved in all these patients. Conclusion Expanded deltopectoral skin flap is a good technique for the repair of extensive facial scar.

A resonance light scattering(RLS) method for the determination of critical micelle concentration(CMC) of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS) was proposed. Under room temperature, the RLS intensity of the SDBS system increased with increasing SDBS concentration. And when the concentration of SDBS approached CMC, the RLS intensity had increased sharply. The RLS peaks were appeared at 330 nm and 396 nm, respectively. The plot of the RLS intensity at 396 nm versus SDBS concentration was S-Curve. The concentration of SDBS at the intersection point of two tangents to S-curve was considered as SBDS CMC. This result was consistent with the results of the pyrene probe fluorescence spectrometry and electrical conductivity method. The influences of the concentration of Ca2+ on the aggregation behave of SDBS and SDBS-emulsion OP(OP) systems were studied by the RLS method. The results indicated that the mixed
