To explore the relationships between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitutional types and overweight or obesity so as to provide evidence for adjusting constitutional bias and preventing and treating obesity.

In order to provide scientific basics for exploitation and sufficient application of Dendrobium officinale leaves resources, the phenol-sulfuric acid method was applied to determine the polysaccharide content. The monosaccharides were derivated by PMP and the derivatives were identified by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS(n) and the contents of mannose and glucose were determined simultaneously. Similarity evaluation system for chromatographic fingerprint of traditional Chinese medicine (2004A) was employed to generate the mean chromatogram and similarity analysis of the samples was carried out. The results demonstrated that polysaccharide content, monosaccharide compositions and composition ratio had an obvious difference between stems and leaves. The polysaccharide content of stems was higher than that of leaves. Monosaccharide composition in leaf was significantly different from that in stem. The polysaccharide from stems was composed of mannose and glucose, however the polysaccharide of leaves was acid heteropolysaccharide and was mainly composed of five monosaccharides, including mannose, galacturonic acid, glucose, galactose and arabinose. The similarity value of the 14 batches was above 0.9, indicating that similarity of fingerprints among different samples was high. The study can provide evidence for expanding the medicinal parts of D. officinale.

Objective To investigate the role of polymorphisms of scavenger receptor class B gene CD36 in affecting the progress of subclinical atherosclerosis (AS) and the associated factors affecting the expression of CD36 on the surface of peripheral blood monouclear cells (PBMC) and the association between CD36 expression and progress of subclinical AS in type 2 diabetic patients.Methods CD36 polymorphisms (CD36-rs1984112, CD36-T620C) were typed by PCR-RFLP in 470 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus and 220 non-diabetic controls of Hans in Hunan area.The genotypes and allele frequencies were compared between cases and controls.Fluorescence intensity of CD36 on the surface of PBMC was analyzed in 102 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus by flow cytometry and was compared between the patients without AS and the patients with subclinical AS.Multiple linear regression was applied to evaluate the relevant factors contributing to CD36 expression.Results The genotypes and allele frequencies of CD36-rs1984112 in type 2 diabetes mellitus were not significantly different between cases and controls (P＞0.05), either did CD36-T620C (P＞0.05).The mean florescence intensity (MFI) of CD36 in type 2 diabetics with subclinical AS was higher than that without AS (1 382±659 vs 1 173±340, P＜0.05).Factors affecting the CD36 expression were: age (P=0.005), gender (P=0.021), systolic blood pressure (SBP) (P=0.027), standardized coefficients Beta was 0.28, 0.31 and -0.21, respectively.Age contributed to the CD36 expression level in males (P=0.002) and diastolic blood pressure in females (P=0.001) respectively.Conclusion CD36-rs1984112 and T620C seem not to be a functional polymorphism sites in Hans of Hunan, southern China.CD36 expression level is higher in type 2 diabetics with subclinical AS in contrast with those without AS.CD36 expression on PBMC surface is higher in aged males with lower SBP.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the family member's depression status and its influencing factors in the patient with mental disorder caused by cerebral trauma. METHODS: The self-designed information questionnaire and self-rating depression scale (SDS) were used to investigate 245 family members' depression conditions. On the basis of SDS score index, all cases were divided into depression group and non-depression group. The data were analyzed by the univariate analysis and multiple factors regression analysis. RESULTS: In the 245 family members, 117 family members had different degrees of depressive symptoms including 68 with mild depression, 42 with moderate depression, and 7 with severe depression. In the multiple factors regression analysis, genetic relationship, personality characteristics and payment method were the main influencing factors of the depression status. CONCLUSION Much attention should be paid to the family member's depression condition of the patient with mental disorder caused by cerebral trauma through specific psychological intervention.

OBJECTIVETo analyze clinical features of pediatric rhino-source diseases for reducing missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis.

METHODData of 3588 children with rhino-source diseases seen from April 2005 to May 2006 were retrospectively analyzed in this study in order to disclose the relationship of etiological factor, clinical features and diagnosis.

RESULTAmong all these cases, 2090 complained of nasal discomfort including nasal obstruction, discharge, rhinalgia and epistaxis. However 1498 cases (41.76%) did not, of whom 470 cases had snoring and apnea, 332 cases of otalgia and otorrhea, 145 cases had chronic cough, 138 had headache and 92 had lower respiratory infection.

CONCLUSIONA high percentage of children who suffered from pediatric rhino-source disease did not develop nasal symptoms. Pediatric rhino-source disease should be considered for patients in whom the therapeutic effect is unexpectedly poor.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is definded as a group of clonal hematological malignancies characterized by bone marrow (BM) ineffective.hematopoiesis and increases risk for progression to acute myeloid leukemia. The altered BM mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play a pivotal role in the evolution and propagation of MDS. Com-pared to normal MSCs, MSCs in MDS often exhibit altered Cytogenetic, epigenetic, differentiation and functional properties, moreover, high MSCs density is associated with poor prognostic factors, which translated into a signifi-cantly diminished ability to support normal hematopoiesis, facilitates survival of malignant hematopoietic cells, ulti-mately promote disease progression and transform to acute myeloid leukemia.Therefore, characterization of key steps in the pathogenesis of MDS will lead to new approaches to treat patients with this disease.

OBJECTIVETo identify the original plant of "Daibaijie", commonly used Dai herb.

METHODThe literature review, morphology and anatomy, pharmacognosy, molecular biology, chemistry were used to analysis.

RESULTDaibaijie's historical scientific name, Dregea sinensis Hemsl., was mistakenly given "Daibaijie" and D. sinensis have significant differences from the distribution, morphology and anatomy, pharmacognosy, molecular biology and chemical composition. "Daibaijie" matches with the characteristics of Marsdenia tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon in Flora of China in English.

CONCLUSIONDaibaijie's original plant is M. tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon. The description and illustration of M. tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon in Flora of China in China are wrong. The illustration of M. tenacissima in Flora of China in English is wrong too.

OBJECTIVE: Study on the application of WAIS-RC short forms and adult intelligence disability scale in mental impairment assessment. METHODS: Mental impairment assessment cases between July 2009 and March 2011 in judicial appraisal institute of Taizhou University were collected. Assessment results obtained with the WAIS-RC short forms and adult intelligence disability scale were compared with the experts assessing conclusions and analyzed using SPSS 11.5 software. RESULTS: Assessment results with the two scales did not fully comply with the expert's conclusions, with reliability coefficient were 0.785 and 0.940 respectively, correlation coefficient were 0.850 and 0.922 respectively. CONCLUSION The intelligence assessment was influenced by many factors. When the appraised individuals had nerve dysfunction and mild intelligence disability or mental disorders, the two scales should be used together. When the appraised individuals had moderate intelligence disability or mental disorders, adult intelligence disability scale had advantage.

OBJECTIVETo observe the change of apelin and its receptor (APJ) in the lung tissue of rats with pulmonary hypertension induced by monocrotaline and to explore its significance.

METHODSTwenty-five male SD rats were randomly divided into control group (n = 10) and monocrotaline group (n = 15). On the twenty-first day after the rats were intraperitoneally injected 60 mg/kg monocrotaline for monocrotaline group or equal volume vehicle for control group, the mean pulmonary artery pressure was measured by right heart catheterization. Histopathological study of lung tissue was done with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Masson's trichrome staining. The concentration of apelin in the plasma was measured by radioimmunoassay. The expressions of apelin/APJ proteins and genes in lung tissue were measured respectively by Western blot and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

RESULTSThe mean pulmonary arterial pressure, right ventricular hypertrophy, pulmonary vascular remodeling index, content of apelin protein in lung tissue of monocrotaline group were higher than those in control group. APJ protein and gene expression in monocrotaline group were significantly lower than those in control group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05), but apelin gene expression in the lung tissue between the two groups had no significant difference.

CONCLUSIONEndogenous apelin/APJ dysfunction may play an important role in the development of pulmonary hypertension induced by monocrotaline.
