1.Exploration of training mechanisms for young faculty's research capabilities
Chinese Journal of Medical Science Research Management 2012;(6):399-401
Young faculty are an essential part of a university's strength and is important for its sustainable development. And their scientific research capability is associated with the long-term development of the university. At present, there are 4 major problems with the development of young faculty's research capabilities, which include their relatively single academic knowledge structure, insufficient experience in writing proposals, insufficient opportunities for academic exchange, and inequity in resource allocation.Establishing a training mechanism may help solve some of the problems and promot their development. The research management department of a university must abandon erroneous traditional management concepts, provide research training seminars, develop a new mechanism to stimulate academic exchange, design a system for short-term laboratory rotations, and promote the participation of your faculty in major research projects. These may bring about marked improvement in the improvement of young faculty's research capabilities.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula on expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha) in ischemic myocardium of rats with acute myocardial infarction. Methods: A total of 100 Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group, sham-operated group, untreated group, metoprolol (Betaloc) group, and high- and low-dose Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula groups. Acute myocardial infarction was induced in the untreated group, Betaloc group, and high- and low-dose Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula groups by left anterior descending coronary artery ligation. After 12-day treatment, microvessel density (MVD) in ischemic myocardium was detected by immunohistochemical method, while expressions of VEGFR-2 and HIF-1alpha proteins were detected by Western blotting, and expressions of VEGFR-2 and HIF-1alpha mRNAs were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results: MVD in the untreated group was increased significantly, higher than those in the normal control group and the sham-operated group (P<0.05) and lower than those in the high- and low-dose Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula groups and Betaloc group (P<0.01). VEGFR-2 and HIF-1alpha protein and mRNA expressions in the untreated group were higher than those in the normal control group and the sham-operated group (P<0.05). VEGFR-2 and HIF-1alpha protein and mRNA expressions in the high- and low-dose Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula groups and Betaloc group were higher than those in the untreated group (P<0.05). There was a significant difference between the high- and low-dose Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng extract can up-regulate the protein and mRNA expressions of VEGFR-2 and HIF-1alpha and increase MVD in ischemic myocardium to improve myocardial ischemia so as to promote the development of collateral circulation.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of cognitive impairment in older people. With the aging of society is more and more serious, AD caused great burden to patients and society. A β is a classical biomarker of AD, which has been widely used in clinical diagnosis of AD patients. Compared with positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), near infrared fluorescence imaging has many advantages including highly sensitive, non-invasive, safety and inexpensive. Therefore, many research groups have focused on developing the molecular probes of near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging. In this article, we will review the progress of the probes of NIRF.

Objective To prospectively assess right ventricular dysfunction and the metergasis before and after therapy of thrombolysis with ECG gated multi-detector spiral computed tomography (MSCT)in patients with acute pulmonary embolism. Methods Triple rule-out ECG gated MSCT examination was performed in 96 consecutive patients suspected of PE. 25 patients with central PE were confirmed. 25 agematched subjects without cardiac and pulmonary disease were recruited as control group. Triple rule-out ECG gated MSCT were performed again to assess cardiac function after therapy of thrombolysis. Dimension ratios for the right ventricle (RV) and left ventricle ( LV), main pulmonary artery and aorta were measured.Furthermore, the RV and LV end-diastolic volumes (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV) and ejection fraction (EF) were also measured. The mean values were compared with analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Newman-Keuls test before and after thrombolysis. Results The mean values of RVEDV, RVESV, RVEF,RV/LV ESV volume ratio, RV/LV dimension ratio and main pulmonary artery/aorta dimension ratio in control group were (150.5±24.1) ml,(71.5 ±18.5) ml, (53.5 ±4.2)%, 1.08 ±0.04, 1.01 ±0.04 and 0. 99 ±0. 02, respectively. While those in PE group were ( 190. 3 ± 16. 2) ml, ( 128. 1 ± 13.2) ml,(32.7 ± 3.6 ) %, 2.00 ± 0.26, 1.30 ± 0. 09 and 1.34 ± 0. 11, respectively. Those after therapy of thrombolysis were ( 159. 2 ± 21.5 ) ml, ( 80. 7 ± 9.4) ml, (49. 2 ± 5.9) %, 1.22 ± 0.25, 1.02 ± 0.02 and 1.02±0.11,respectively. ESV and EDV of RV were larger (q= 6.28, P<0.01; q=7.59, P<0.01),EF value was lower (q = 4. 82, P < 0.01 ) in PE group than those in control group. RV/LV ESV volume ratio, the RV/LV dimension ratio and main pulmonary artery/aorta dimension ratio were larger ( q = 6. 04,P <0. 01; q =4. 43, P <0. 01; q =4. 36, P <0. 01 ) and EDV of LV was lower in PE group than those in control group. However, ESV and EDV of RV and RV/LV ESV volume ratio were lower (q = 5.03, P <0.01;q=6. 11,P<0.01;q=4.74,P<0.01), EF value was larger (q=6.29, P<0.01) and EDV of LV was larger(q =4.01 ,P <0.01 ) after therapy of thrombolysis than before. Conclusion Retrospective triple rule-out ECG-gated MSCT can show pulmonary embolism, measure the function of RV and LV and evaluate curative effect of thrombolysis.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(4):870-874
This study seeks to explore the early signs of cognitive impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). According to polysomnography, twenty patients diagnosed with OSAHS and twenty normal controls underwent event-related potential (ERP) examination including mismatch negativity (MMN) and P300. Compared with normal controls, OSAHS patients showed significantly prolonged latency of MMN and P300 at Cz. After controlling age and body mass index (BMI), MMN latency positively correlated with apnea hypopnea index (AHI), oxygen reduction index, stage N1 sleep and arousal index, while MMN latency negatively correlated with stage N3 sleep and mean blood oxygen saturation; and P300 latency positively related to AHI and oxygen reduction index; no relationships were found among MMN latency, MMN amplitude, P300 latency and P300 amplitude. These results suggest that the brain function of automatic processing and controlled processing aere impaired in OSAHS patients, and these dysfunction are correlated with nocturnal repeatedly hypoxemia and sleep structure disturbance.

This study was aimed to observe the effect ofpomegranate leaf tennis and Ananas coumosus leaf phenols on the growth of lactating mice through breast milk. Intragastric administration of different doses of drug was given to maternal mice. The general condition of newborn mice, body weight, tail length and organ coefficient of liver-related factors regulating the expression of lipid metabolism were observed. The results showed that both pomegranate leaf tennis and A. coumosus leaf phenols can obviously affect the growth and development of newborn mice through breast milk. And the effect of pomegranate leaf tennis was stronger than A. coumosus leaf phenols. Meanwhile, it obviously downregulated the expression of liver-related lipid metabolism enzymes in newborn mice. It was concluded that pomegranate leaf tennis and A. coumosus leaf phenols can affect the growth and development of newborn mice through breast milk. Its effect was related to the influence of lipid metabolism enzyme in the liver. Attention should be paid on taking this medication during lactation. Its clinical significance still required in-depth study.
