4.Screening of Sponge Stelletta tennui Associated Anti-microbial Bacteria and Their Synergistic Effects
Microbiology 1992;0(04):-
A total of 104 marine bacterial strains were isolated from Stelletta tennui around Sanya area of South China Sea by dilution-plate method and were screened for anti-microbial activity on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureu, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans and Pacecilomyces variotii by agar diffusion, paper disc diffusion assay and cell concentration counts methods. It was found that 23 strains, which are 22.2% of the total isolated strains, have anti-microbial activities. Among the 23 strains, A05, A08, A72 and A75 were morphologically, physiologically and biochemically characterized and identified to be the genus Bacillus. At the same time, it was proved that there are positive and negative synergistic effects between or among active strains, e.g., as for A72-75 combination, an obvious enhanced anti-microbial activities on inhibiting Candida albicans and Pseudomomas fluorescens growth was observed than A72 or A75.

Objective To investigate the changes of serum and bile from victims attacked by infantile hepatitis syndrome(IHS).Methods The constituents from 42 IHS subjects and 16 controls, including total bilirubin(TB),direct bilirubin(DB),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),glutamyltranspeptidase(?-GT),total bile acid(TBA),interleukin 6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor ?(TNF-? )both in bile and serum, were assayed by fully-auto chemistry analyzer and ELISA,respectively. The subjects of IHS were divided into cholestasis group and hepatitis group. Results Of IHS group, the values of serumal TB,DB,ALT,?-GT,TBA,IL-6 and TNF-? were higher than those of control(P_a

Biotrickling filter often offers a cost effective and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional air pollutant control technologies, but major problems with clogging of the filters due to a high biomass accumulation will provent it from the industried uses.In this paper, the effect of the high biomass accumulation in an air pollution treatment with a biotrickling filter is discussed. Two parameters with specific surface area with biofilm growth(?_ f ) and the bed porosity with biofilm(?_ f )are used to analyse its principle of accumulation. Finally, some control measures including chemical methods, physical machine-made methods and other control methods are overviewed.

Twelve cases of Bartter's syndrome were reported and reviewed retrospectively.Usually vomiting was the first sympton in children, while fatigue was common in adults.Bartter's syndrome was characteristic of hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, elevations of plasma renin activity, serum angiotersinⅡand aldosterone and juxtaglomerular apperatus hyperplasia.Supplementation of potassium choloride was the main manner of therapy.

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)for treating HBeAg positive chron-ic hepatitis B virus(HBV)carriers with liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndrome. Methods The patients with HBeAg and HBV DNA positive, normal serum ALT and AST for successive 3 times within 1-year follow up,complicating different degrees of symptoms were included.Among them, the patients with liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndrome according to the TCM dif-ferentiation were selected as the treatment obj ects and treated by the prescription of soothing the liver, tonifying spleen and detoxifi-cation.The changes of clinical symptoms and HBV markers after 6-month therapy were observed and followed up for 3 months for evaluating the effect persistance.348 cases were recruited,161 cases in the control group and the other 187 cases in the treatment group.Treatment group underwent traditional Chinese medicine treatment. Results 168 cases finished the therapy with the total effective rate of 80.3%(135/168),6 cases were HBeAg negative conversion and 14 cases were HBV DNA decrease greater than or equal to 2 logarithmic grades;157 patients finished 3-month follow-up and the effective rate was 80.9%(127/157),4 cases were HBeAg negative conversion and 1 1 cases were HBV DNA decrease greater than or equal to 2 logarithmic grades. The curative effect of treatment group was higher than that of control group. Conclusion The TCM prescription of soothing the liver, tonifying spleen and detoxification has definite effect for treating HBeAg positive chronic HBV carriers with liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndrome, the symptoms can be significantly improved.

Objective To study the effect of intensive trunk muscle training on balance and walking in pa- tients with hemiplegia caused by stroke. Methods A total of 90 stroke patients were recruited and randomly divid- ed into a treatment group(45 cases)and a control group(45 cases). All the patients were given conventional reha- bilitation training.Meanwhile, intensive trunk muscle training was also administered for those in the treatment group as well. The trunk control function, balance ability and walking ability were assessed by using the trunk control test, Berg Balance Scale and the balance subscale of the Fugl-Meyer physical performance test, and Holden's functional ambulation classification, respectively, before and after 6 weeks of training. Results It was found that all the pa- tients scored better with the trunk control test,Berg's balance scale, the balance subscale of the Fugl-Meyer physical performance test and Holden's ambulation classification after treatment, and there were significant differences between the two groups after treatment(P

We present a rare case of colonic metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and review the literature.A 54-year-old male was referred to our hospital with a history of bloody stools and fever.A dght kidney tumor measuring about 10 cm in diameter was found by abdominal computed tomography.Right radical nephrectomy and a right hemicolectomy with ileotransversostomy were performed.Pathological diagnosis was chromophobe RCC with sarcomotoid change involving the colon.Chromophobe RCC with sarcomotoid change is very rare.
