Objective Hepatic stimulator substance(HSS)is newly defined as a growth mitogen to hepatocytes. This sutdy is aiming to investigate the effect of recombinant human hepatic stimulator substance(rhHSS) on growth of liver oval cells(OVCs). Methods OVCs were prepared from intoxicated rats with 3'-methyl-dimethylaminoazobenzene.After confirmation of OVC morphologically and histochemically, the cell cultures of OVC were exposed to various dosages of rhHSS for 12 and 24?h,respectively.The cellular proliferation was analyzed by MTT and flow cytometry. Results Administration of rhHSS(160-400 mg/L)inhibited the proliferation of OVC,as indicated by MTT and cell cycle analysis, the effect appeared non-dose dependent pattern. The peak of inhibition occurred at 240?mg/L.After incubation with 240?mg/L of HSS for 12 and 24?h,the percentages of S-phase were reduced 47.8% and 35.8% to those of the untreated cells.respectively.Conclusion rhHSS exhibits the inhibitory effect on growth of OVC.

International Eye Science 2016;16(7):1276-1278
Myopia is the most important cause of visual impairment in adolescents. However, its etiology is complex. In recent years, a large number of epidemiological studies have been done on risk factors of myopia. Most of these studies is cross- sectional study, not longitudinal cohort study. Overall, the incidence of myopia is the result of the interaction between genetic susceptibility and environmental exposure. This review is about the risk factors for myopia.

Objective: To observe the effect of mild moxibustion on cancer-related fatigue, serum ghrelin and adiponectin in patients undergoing chemotherapy after colorectal cancer surgery. Methods: Seventy patients were divided into a control group and an observation group according to the random number table method, with 35 cases in each group. Patients in both groups were treated with conventional FOLFOX4 chemotherapy regimen. Patients in the control group also received routine treatments such as symptomatic treatment of complications, health education, nutritional support, and exercise intervention. Patients in the observation group received mild moxibustion on the basis of interventions used in the control group. The Piper fatigue scale-revision (PFS-R), Karnofsky performance status (KPS) and spleen and kidney yang deficiency syndrome were scored, and serum ghrelin and adiponectin levels were measured before and after treatment. Results: After treatment, total score of PFS-R in the control group did not change significantly (P>0.05), while in the observation group it was significantly reduced (P<0.05) and lower than that in the control group (P<0.05); KPS scores in both groups were increased (both P<0.05), and it was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05); total score of spleen and kidney yang deficiency syndrome in the control group did not change significantly (P>0.05), while it was significantly reduced in the observation group (P<0.05) and lower than that in the control group (P<0.05); serum ghrelin and adiponectin levels in the control group had no significant changes (both P>0.05), but the levels were significantly increased in the observation group (both P<0.05) and higher than those in the control group (both P<0.05). Conclusion: Based on the routine treatments, mild moxibustion can relieve fatigue, improve quality of life, and improve the symptoms of spleen and kidney yang deficiency in patients undergoing chemotherapy after colorectal cancer surgery, which may be related to the regulation of serum ghrelin and adiponectin levels.

Objective: To observe the immunohistochemical localization of enamelin in enamel formationand mineralization. Methods: Tissue sections of the first mandibular molar tooth germ from 1, 3, 7, 10, 14 days rats after birth were prepared, expression of the enamelin protein was identified by immunohistochemical technique. Results: Enamelin was found in the cytoplasm of ameloblasts in 1-10 days old rat postnatal first mandibular molar tooth germs. Enamelin appeared weakly in the tooth germs of 1 day rats. From 3 to 10 days, enamelin localized both in the cytoplasm of ameloblasts and the uncalcified enamel from the dentino-enamel junction to surfaces of the tooth. Enamelin protein was negative in the tooth germs of 14 days rats postnatally. Conclusion: Enamelin protein is synthesised and secreted by ameloblasts, specially localized in enamel from DEJ to surfaces of the tooth, suggesting that enamelin has important roles in enamel formation.
9. Molecular cloning and expression analysis of germacrene A synthase gene in Chamaemelum nobile
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 2017;48(9):1851-1859
Objective: Chamaemelum nobile is renowned for its production of essential oils, in which major components are sesquiterpenoids. Germacrene A synthase (GAS) is one of core enzymes involved in sesquiterpenoids. The present study aims to clone the full-length cDNA of GAS gene from C. nobile (CnGAS), and characterize and analyze tissue expression pattern of GAS gene. Methods: The specific primers were designed based on the results of previous transcriptome sequencing and the full-length cDNA of CnGAS was cloned by RT-PCR. The nucleotide sequence and its encoding amino-acid sequence were analyzed by bioinformatics method, and the physicochemical property and function of the encoding protein were predicted. The expression levels of the gene in different organs of C. nobile were determined by qRT-PCR technology. Results: The full-length cDNA of GAS gene, designated as CnGAS, was 1 785 bp (GenBank accession number: KU589283) and contained a 1 683 bp open reading frame (ORF), which encoded a 561 amino-acid protein. The theoretical molecular weight and PI of the deduced CnGAS protein were 6 470 and 5.21, respectively. The encoding amino-acid sequence of CnGAS showed high similarity to GAS proteins in other plants, which contained conserved DDxxD motif. Phylogenetic tree analysis revealed that CnGAS had closer genetic relationship with GASs from Asteracae plants. The result of qRT-PCR showed that CnGAS gene was expressed in different organs of C. nobile, and highly expressed in the flower. Conclusion: The CnGAS gene is isolated from C. nobile and the expression levels of this gene in different organs are analyzed, which will lay a foundation for further study of sesquiterpene biosynthesis pathway in C. nobile.

Objective To evaluate the value of acute kidney injury network (AKIN) criteria for predicting hospital mortality in post-cardiosurgery elderly patients. Methods From October 2006 to January 2007, the elderly patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting or valve replacement operation were enrolled in this study. The medical data included gender, age, operation type, perioperative hemodynamic parameters, urine output, biochemical parameters and outcome. Renal function was assessed according to the AKIN criteria, and severity of illness was determined after surgery by calculating Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ (APACHE Ⅱ ) score. Results A total of 225 patients underwent cardiac surgery during this period, 169 patients were male (75. 1%), while 56 were female (24. 9%), mean age was (66. 7±5. 0) years old. The overall hospital mortality rate was 5.8% (13/225). According to AKIN criteria, there were 125 patients with acute kidney injury (55.6%), and the hospital mortality of stage 1, 2 and 3 patients were 2. l%(2/96), 9. 1% (1/11) and 50. 0% (9/18) respectively. A significant increase was observed in mortality based on AKIN criteria (P<0. 01). By applying the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, the AKIN criteria had a good discriminative power. Conclusions Both the incidence and mortality rate of acute kidney injury in the post-cardiosurgery elderly patients are high, the AKIN criteria is a simple and valuable method with a good prognostic capability for evaluating acute kidney injury.
