Objective To explore the association of SDF1 3A genetic polymorphism with susceptibility of essential hypertension and captopril efficacy in patients with essential hypertension. Methods A total of 214 patients with essential hypertension and 228 healthy controls were genotyped for SDF1 3A polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay. Among 39 subjects with different SDF1 3A of genotypes, 13 hypertensive patients simultaneously took oral captopril (25 mg/d) and nitrendipine (30 mg/d), and 12 patients orally received nitrendipine alone for 8 consecutive weeks, and 14 healthy controls did not take any agents. The blood pressure of all subjects was measured to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. Results There was a significant difference in the plasma SDF-1 level in individuals with AA+AG genotypes or GG genotypes of SDF1 3A treated with nitrendipine plus captopril compared with healthy control (P<0.05). Carriers with AA genotypes of SDF1 3A had lower total protein and globulin than those with GG genotypes (P<0.05). After captopril treatment, hypertensive patients with AA+AG genotypes had bigger attenuated systolic blood pressure compared with those with GG genotypes (P<0.05). Conclusion Genetic polymorphism of SDF1 3A could influence the therapeutic efficacy of captopril in Chinese hypertensive patients.

Complement system is an important component of innate immunity and has been recognized as an effective means to inhibit tumor. However,in last decades, accumulating studies showed unexpected results that the complement components and their activation products could promote development of malignancies by secreting growth factors, activating signal pathway and promoting tumor angiogenesis. Herein, the relationship between the complement system and tumor is reviewed.

Objective To explore the impact of advanced glycation end-products ( AGEs) on matrix metalloproteinase 2 ( MMP-2) expression in cultivated INS-1 cells. Method INS-1 cells were cultivated and MMP-2 expression was analyzed. Glycated serum was prepared for incubating with INS-1 cell. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) was detected by flow cytometry. The intracelluar MMP-2 expression was analyzed by RT-PCR, realtime PCR and Western blot. The MMP-2 cDNA was expressed in cultivated INS-1 cells. Result The level of ROS treated with AGEs was significantly higher than that in the control( P<0.05 ) , and the levels of MMP-2 and its protein expressions turned out as well( P<0. 05). Conclusion The results suggest that MMP-2 was expressed in INS-1 cells. Increased MMP-2 expression in ?cells may be induced by AGEs, suggesting that MMP-2 might play an important role in oxidative stress-mediated islet injury.

Objective To evaluate the curative effects of intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) during the conservative management for patients with indirect optic nerve injury (ONI),and to analyze the benefits of visual evoked potential (VEP) monitoring in prognosis assessment. Methods Among the 253 patients with cranial-facial injury,108 sufferred from optic nerve injury including 89 cases without optic nerve decompression treatment. These 89 patients were randomly divided into:group A,in which patients were given methylprednisolone intravenously for 7 days; and group B,in which patients without methylprednisolone treatment. The extent of and time required for eyesight recovery were recorded.VEP measurement was carried out in all cases. Results No differences in gender, age and BMI (Body Mass Index, all P > 0.05) were observed. The incidence of ONI was higher in patients with motorcycle accident than that in those with car accident (P <0.01).In the motorcycle accidents, casualties wearing a helmet had lower incidence of ONI (P < 0.01).Patients treated with methylprednisolone had a shorter recovery time (P < 0.01) from blindness, however there was no difference in long-term outcome between group A and B.In patients with visual improvement in the “ non-extinguished” group, the amplitude and latency of the P wave of VEP were markedly ameliorated after the treatments (P < 0.01).Conclusions Most of the ONI casualties in our study were resulted from motorcycle accidents, and wearing a helmet is an effective protection measure. The intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) showed no effect on improving the prognosis in patients with conservative treatment. The IVMP shortened the recovery time at the expense of increase in risk of complications.VEP examination is beneficial in prognosis assessment for non-operative ONI patients. The improvement of the amplitude and latency of P wave has close correlations with patients'visual recovery.

Microbiology 1992;0(05):-
Using the high efficient copper-adsorbing yeast strain Y17 as absorbing material, the major affect factors including pH, original concentration of Cu2+, cell biomass, adsorption time and temperature were examined, and then the absorbing sites of the Y17 was determined. The results showed that the solution pH was the most dominate factor which affected the biosorption of Cu2+, the other affecting factors were the ini- tial concentration of Cu2+, the cell biomass added, and adsorption time, respectively; the temperature had lit- tle effect on the rate of biosorption. The orthogonal experiment showed that the optimal absorption condition was as follow: the solution pH was 5.0, the absorption time was 40 min, the cell biomass of Y17 added was 5.0 g/L, and the concentration of Cu2+ was 8 mmol/L; the highest adsorbing rate was up to 82.7% at this condition. Based on the results of different pretreatments and the desorption of Cu2+, the cell wall of Y17 was identified as the main place occurring boisorption process, and the -NH2 group, -COOH group on the surface of the yeast cells played an important role on the boisorption process.

Objective To observe the curative effect of continuous airway positive pressure ventilation (CPAP) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and cough syncope. Methods Forty-three hospitalized patients with OSAHS and cough syncope were collected in the Department of Respiration of Tianjin General Hospital, and analyzed the related information. They were given CPAP treatment, and were divided into good compliance group (n=26) and poor compliance group (n=17) according to CPAP compliance after a half-year treatment. The apnea hypoventilation index (AHI) and c-reactive protein (CRP) were compared before and after treatment between two groups. Results The positive correlation was found between the frequency of the cough syncope and indicators of OSAHS, such as AHI, body mass index (BMI), CRP, sleepiness score (ESS) and circumference of abdomen and neck (r=0.612, 0.431, 0.224, 0.654, 0.435 and 0.344,P<0.05). All these patients were cured after the treatment of both CPAP and medication for 1 or 2 weeks. During a half-year follow-up, the cough syncope didn’t occur in those patients of good compliance group, otherwise cough syncope still happened but with less frequency in patitents of poor compliance group. Before the treatment , there was no significant difference in AHI (45.00±15.69 vs. 48.70±16.47) and CRP (3.46± 1.15 vs. 3.38±0.72) between the two groups. After treatment, AHI (26.97±14.06 vs. 48.18±15.96) and CRP (1.56±0.76 vs. 3.18± 0.78) were significantly lower in the good compliance group than those of the poor compliance group (P<0.01). Conclusion Timely and sustained treatment of OSAHS may help reduce the incidence of cough syncope and significantly improve AHI, CRP and cough symptoms.
