2.Toxicogenomics and its application in safety evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine.

Toxicogenomics (TGx) refers to a set of technologies that assess genome-wide responses after toxic agent exposure. Altered gene expression patterns that are caused by specific exposures reveal how toxicants may disrupt cellular processes and lead to side effects. Development and application of " omics" technology facilitate the toxicogenomic research which sharing and interpretation of the enormous amount of biological information generated in toxicologic field. In recent years TGx has been widely valued and successfully applied as an effective research tool to evaluate the toxic effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Here we reviewed current progress in the field of TGx and focused on its application in traditional Chinese medicine safety evaluation, especially in revealing the mechanism, finding potential toxic biomarkers and studying compatibility detoxification of TCM.

3.Impact of 1, 25-(OH)2D3 on Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Type 2 Diabetic Rats.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the impact of 1, 25-(OH)2D3 on left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in type 2 diabetic rats.
METHODSType 2 diabetic mellitus (DM) model rats were established by intraperitoneally injecting with 30 mg/kg streptozotocin. After 8 weeks, 19 male rats were identified as diabetic with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) by ultrasound examination, and randomly assigned into three groups: untreated (DM-LVH, n=7), treated with insulin (DM-LVH+INS, n=6), and treated with 1, 25-(OH)2D3 (DM-LVH+VD, n=6). Healthy male rats were used as the controls group (n=6). The fasting blood glucose and the insulin level were determined weekly. The left ventricular mass index, myocardial collagen content, collagen volume fraction, and 1, 25-(OH)2D3-receptor level were determined by 4 weeks later.
RESULTSIn the DM-LVH model group, the insulin level was significantly decreased compared with the non-diabetic control group (P<0.05), whereas the blood glucose, left ventricular mass index, myocardial collagen content, collagen volume fraction, and 1, 25-(OH)2D3-receptor expression were significantly increased (all P<0.05). In the DM-LVH+INS and DM-LVH+VD groups, the insulin levels were significantly increased compared with the DM-LVH model group (P<0.05), whereas the other parameters were significantly decreased (all P<0.05).
CONCLUSION1, 25-(OH)2D3 could reverse LVH in diabetic rats and that the mechanism may involve stimulating insulin secretion and reducing blood glucose via direct up-regulation of 1, 25-(OH)2D3-receptor expression.

6.Antibacterial Activity of Allicin Combined with Cefoperazone Against Pseudomonas aeruginosa

OBJECTIVE To study the in virto interaction of allicin combined with cefoperazone against clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.METHODS The protocol was designed by checkerboard method and the MICs of allicin combined with cefoperazone against the 17 strains of sensitive and 14 strains of drug-resistant P.aeruginosa were determined by broth dilution method,the FIC index was calculated according to MIC results.The combined effects were confirmed by FIC index.RESULTS The percentage of the FIC index less than 0.5,from 0.5 to 1,from 1 to 2,and more than 2 was 41.2-64.3% 35.7-41.2% 0-17.6%,and 0%,respectively.CONCLUSIONS Synergism and additivity of allicin combined with cefoperazone against P.aeruginosa are their main action,there are little autonomy and no antagonism.Allicin can significantly improve the antibacterial activity of cefoperazone against drug-resistant P.aeruginosa.
7.A retrospective study on the long-term clinical outcomes of 310 porcelain laminate veneers

Objective To investigate the long-term clinical outcomes of porcelain laminate veneers 1-8 years following delivery.Methods A total of 310 feldspathic porcelain laminate veneers on anterior teeth or premolars in 49 patients were included in the present study 1-8 years following delivery.All the subjects underwent a detailed clinical examination utilizing medified United States Public Health service(USPHS)criteria.Restoration integrity,abrasion,color satisfaction,marginal discoloration,marginal adaptation,secondary caries,postoperative sensitivity,and gingival index(GI)of the prostheses were evaluated according to modified USPHS criteria.The 1-8 year survival rates of the veneers were statistically analyzed using the life table method.Results The survival rates of porcelain laminate veneers were98.7%,98.0%,93.8%,93.2%,89.7%,81.8%,76.3%,and 76.3%in 1 to 8 years,respectively.Conclusions The long-term clinical outcomes of porcelain laminate veneers are satisfying.
8.A cost and value analysis of nursing services

Objective To study the relationship between the cost and value of nursing services and its effects on the nursing science development. Methods According to Chinese administrative regions, 7 cities were randomly selected to descriptively analysis for the price of nursing services and compared in the cost recovery rate for some items. Results The price of nursing services was not fully reasonable. Moreover, the cost recovery rate was generally low and price fixing lacks of accounting basis. Conclusions It is important to enhance the awareness of the economic value of nursing services and build a scientific accounting system of nursing cost in order to promote the sustainable development of nursing science.
9.The pathway of absorption and conveying of puerarin microemulsion-in-oil.

The best absorption location of puerarin microemulsion-in-oil in intestine parva of rat and pharmacokinetic characteristics, and the pathway of absorption and conveying of puerarin microemulsion were studied. In situ rat perfusion method was used to investigate the intestinal absorption of puerarin. Through the changes of drug concentration in blocked and unblocked lymphs, to determine the pathway of absorption and conveying. Puerarin microemulsion-in-oil can be absorbed in any part of intestine, and the K(a), P(app) of every part is ileum > duodenum > jejunum > colon, and the K(a), P(app) of ileum is significantly larger than that of others. The absorption rate of different concentrations is not significantly different (P > 0.05). The puerarin transited by gastrointestinal tract, about 36.8% is absorbed by the lymphatic channels to enter the systemic circulation and 63.2% is absorbed by the non-lymphatic channels. The best part of intestine to absorb puerarin microemulsion is ileum, and it is passive transport. The pathway of conveying is lymphoid and non-lymphoid transit.
