Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of ultrasonic-harmonic scalpel in open thyroid surgery. Methods Totally 70 patients with thyroid surgery from January 2012 to January 2014 in some hospital were selected as the study objects, who were divided into a control group and an observation group equally. The patients in the control group went through traditional surgery, and the ones in the observation group underwent open thyroid surgery. Then the operative time, blood loss, postoperative hospital stay before and after surgery and body stress-related serum markers of two groups were analyzed and compared. Results The observation group had the operative time, blood loss and postoperative hospital stay significantly better than those of the control group, and the body stress-related serum markers 5 days after operation significantly lower than that of the control group, with P<0.05.Conclusion The short-term clinical effect of ultrasonic-harmonic scalpel in open thyroid surgery is significantly better than that of traditional surgery, which has high safety and lower degree of adverse physical stress.

Objective To establish the reference intervals of total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG),high density lipoprotein (HDL-C)and low density lipoprotein (LDL-C)in the healthy population in Hengshui region. Methods 16 403 healthy individuals were collected from the various counties and cities in this region and detected the above 4 blood lipid indexes (TC,TG,HDL-C, LDL-C)by adopting the automatic biochemical analyzer. The subjects were grouped according to different genders and ages and the detection results were performed the statistical analysis. Results TC 3.17-7.20 mmol/L;TG 0.08-3.16 mmol/L;HDL-C 0.94-2.30 mmol/L;LDL-C 1 .14 -4.59 mmol/L.Conclusion The differences of blood lipid detection results exist in males and fe-males in Hengshui region, the results are different among different age groups,it is suggested that different genders and different age groups should establish their own normal reference intervals in order to provide the diagnostic basis for clinic.

Objective To explore the impacts of different nutrition support methods on short-term outcome in critically ill adult patients. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 1503 critically ill adult patients who needed nutrition support in an mixed intensive care unit (ICU) of a tertiary care university hospital from January 1994 to December 2009. The complication of nutrition support, length of stay (LOS) in ICU, morbidity of infection and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and mortality among different nutrition support methods were compared. Results The Nutritional Risk Screening (NRS) scores of the enrolled patients were no less than 3. LOS in early enteral nutrition (EN) patients were significantly shorter than those in not-early EN patients (P < 0. 001) and parenteral nutrition (PN) patients (both P < 0. 001). Infection rate (P < 0. 001),morbidity of MODS (P < 0. 001) and mortality (P < 0. 001) were significantly lower than those in not-early EN and PN patients. LOS of patients receiving PN rich in glutamine (Gln) was significantly shorter than that in conventional formula (P = 0. 0000). Morbidity of infection (P= 0. 0252) and MODS (P = 0. 0030), mortality (P =0. 0305) were significantly lower than that of conventional patients. LOS of patients receiving intensive insulin therapy (IIT) was significantly shorter than that of controlled group (P = 0. 0000). Morbidity of infection (P =0. 0001) and MODS (P = 0. 0237) and mortality (P =0. 0427) were significandy lower than those of controlled group. Conclusions Nutritional risk is prevalent among critically ill adult patients. Early EN, PN of rich in Gln,and receiving IIT can shorten LOS, decrease morbidity of infection and MODS, and improve prognosis among these patients.

Objective To investigate the changes of the N-acetylaspartate(NAA) concentrations in different brain regions and executive function skills in alcohol dependence, and to study the relationship between NAA levels and cognitive functions in subjects. Methods 49 male,non-smoking,alcohol-dependent patients and 45 healthy control subjects were measured with Proton 1H Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST).Results Alcoholics had lower NAA/Cr ratios in prefrontal grey matter(GM) (1.59± 0.13) and white matter(WM) (1.58±0.12) regions and performed poorly on executive function tests compared to controls (P<0.001).NAA/Cr in left prefrontal regions positively correlated with certain parameters of EF testing (number of correct responses 30.37± 3.73,perseverative errors 11.49± 3.39,random errors 6.18± 2.64,categories completed 2.08± 1.59)in alcoholic group (P<0.01).NAA/Cr in prefrontal WM regions correlated with certain parameters of EF testing in alcoholic group (number of correct responses r=0.379,categories completed r=0.433,P< 0.05).Conclusion Long-term,chronic alcoholism will damage neuronal viability and cognitive functions, which suggests that NAA concentrations can reflect the extent of damage of cognitive functions with decreased levels reflecting neuronal loss.

OBJECTIVETo establish a simple but effective method of laser scanning confocal microscopic imaging for Ca2+ oscillations of pancreatic acinar cells in adult mice.
METHODSPancreatic acinar cells from adult Kunming mice were isolated acutely with collagenase, and then loaded with fluo-4-AM, a Ca2+ indicator. A laser scanning confocal microscope armed with 488 nm laser was employed to record the dynamic fluorescent signals in-time and synchronously while acetylcholine (ACh) was added in the pancreatic acinar cells.
RESULTS(1) The classic pancreatic acinar cell Ca2+ oscillations were induced by a certain concentration of ACh (100 nmol/L) successfully and steadily, which could be blocked by atropine completely. (2) Plasmic Ca2+ oscillations from different parts of one acinar cell were usually with different amplitudes and almost the same frequencies. But both of amplitudes and frequencies were different among different cells. (3) The acinar cell Ca2+ oscillations were induced by ACh in a concentration-dependent manner.
CONCLUSIONThe laser scanning confocal microscopic imaging for adult mouse pancreatic acinar cell Ca2+ oscillations was established successfully. The features of being easy to use, direct to see lively, high efficiency and good flexibility make it a popular tool for researchers to choose.

The laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) was applied to perform a qualitative elementary analysis on four precious Tibetan medicines, i. e. Renqing Mangjue, Renqing Changjue, 25-herb coral pills and 25-herb pearl pills. The specific spectra of the four Tibetan medicines were established. In the experiment, Nd: YAG and 1 064 nm-baseband pulse laser were adopted to collect the spectra. A laser beam focused on the surface of the samples to generate plasma. Its spectral signal was detected by using spectrograph. Based on the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) database, LIBS spectral lines were indentified. The four Tibetan medicines mainly included Ca, Na, K, Mg and other elements and C-N molecular band. Specifically, Fe was detected in Renqing Changjue and 25-herb pearl pills; heavy mental elements Hg and Cu were shown in Renqing Mangjue and Renqing Changjue; Ag was found in Renqing Changjue. The results demonstrated that LIBS is a reliable and rapid multi-element analysis on the four Tibetan medicines. With Real-time, rapid and nondestructive advantages, LIBS has a wide application prospect in the element analysis on ethnic medicines.
