OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effects of momordica charantia polysaccharides(MCP)on depressive animal model induced by chronic social defeat stress(CSDS)and explore the underlying mechanisms.METHODS We established CSDS depressant mouse model and treated CSDS mice with MCP.Sucrose preference, forced swim test(FST)and social interaction test(SIT)were used to measure behaviors changes. We used ELISA,Q-PCR and western blot to test the levels of cytokines in the hippocampus. RESULTS The results showed that chronic administration of MCP(100,200 and 400 mg·kg-1)significantly prevented depressive-like behaviors in mice as assessed by social interaction (SIT), tail suspension (TST) and sucrose preference tests (SPT).It was showed that the elevation of proinflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-β)concentra-tions,up-regulation of JNK3,c-Jun,and P-110β protein expressions in the hippocampus of CSDS model. Moreover, reduction activity of PI3K and phosphorylation level of protein kinase B(AKT)was also observed in the hippocampus of CSDS model. All above phenomenon were reversed after MCP intervened.Further-more,the protective effects of MCP on the CSDS mice were partly inhibited by the specific phosphati-dylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)inhibitor, LY294002. CONCLUSION The protective effects of MCP against depressive-like effects in CSDS mice might reduce neuroinflammatory and involve in attenuation of JNK3/PI3K/AKT pathway in the hippocampus.

Objective To systemically evaluate the clinical therapeutic effect and safety of traditional Chinese medicine on Kawasaki disease. Methods Through retrieval of the reports in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), VIP database, Wanfang database by computer, the correlative articles of clinically randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in China during the period from 1990 to 2013 were collected, and their quality evaluation was made. All the articles were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, in which interventions were traditional Chinese medicine therapy and conventional western treatment. The articles selected were assessed with the software of RevMan 5.2. Results There were 212 articles searched out, but only 13 articles, 656 children with Kawasaki disease were conformed to the inclusion criteria. The Meta analysis indicated that the total effective rate in the traditional Chinese medicine group was superior to the group treated with western medicine. The difference in the curative effects between the two groups had notable significance [odds ratio (OR) = 3.58, 95%confidence interval (95%CI) was 2.16-5.93, test for overall effect Z=4.94, P<0.000 01]. No difference was seen in the curative effect of improving coronary artery changes between the traditional Chinese medicine group and western medicine control group (OR=2.03, 95%CI was 0.74-5.62, test for overall effect Z=1.37, P=0.17). Conclusion The clinical therapeutic effect of traditional Chinese medicine on Kawasaki disease is superior to that treated by western medicine.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of induction chemotherapy with nedaplatin and docetaxel plus concurrent intensity?modulated radiotherapy ( IMRT) with nedaplatin or cisplatin in the treatment of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods A total of 223 patients with pathologically diagnosed locally advanced NPC in five treatment centers from 2011 to 2012 were randomly divided into two groups. In the test group, one hundred and thirteen patients received two cycles of induction chemotherapy with docetaxel (65 mg/ m2 on day 1) and nedaplatin (80 mg/ m2 on day 1) plus concurrent IMRT with nedaplatin (40 mg/ m2 on day 1). In the control group, 110 patients received two cycles of induction chemotherapy with the same regimens plus concurrent IMRT with cisplatin (40 mg/ m2 on day 1). The survival rates were calculated with the Kaplan?Meier method and the differences in the survival rates between the two groups were analyzed using the log?rank test. Comparison of the incidence rates of adverse reactions between the two groups was made by the chi?square test. Results The follow?up rate was 99?? 1%.The response rates at 3 months after treatment in the two groups were both 100%. The 2?year local recurrence?free, regional recurrence?free, distant metastasis?free, and overall survival rates were 94?? 0%, 94?? 2%, 88?? 2%, and 90?? 3%, respectively, in the test group, versus 93?? 4%, 94?? 1%, 86?? 7%, and 87?? 3% in the control group ( P= 0?? 757、 0?? 478、 0?? 509、 0?? 413). The incidence rates and severity of leucopenia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia were significantly higher in the test group than in the control group ( P= 0?? 027 , 0?? 028 , 0?? 035 ) . The incidence rates and severity of hemoglobin reduction and nausea /vomiting were significantly lower in the test group than in the control group (P= 0?? 000,0?? 023). There were no significant differences in the incidence rates of mucositis and xerostomia between the two groups ( P=0?? 483,0?? 781). Conclusions The short?term efficacy of induction chemotherapy with nedaplatin and docetaxel plus concurrent IMRT with nedaplatin is similar to that with cisplatin in the treatment of locally advanced NPC. The mild gastrointestinal reactions can be tolerated by patients. However, the severe myelosuppression should be closely monitored during the treatment.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion for dysmenorrhea due to deficiency cold. Methods: A total of 70 patients with dysmenorrhea who met the inclusion criteria were randomized into a mild moxibustion group and a herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion group by the random number table, with 35 cases in each group. Shenque (CV 8), Zhongji (CV 3) and bilateral Zigong (EX-CA 1) were selected for both groups. The treatment continued for 3 menstrual cycles. The visual analog scale (VAS) and COX menstrual symptom scale (CMSS) were scored in both groups before treatment, after treatment and at the end of the 3rd menstrual cycle after treatment. The clinical efficacy was evaluated at the end of the 3rd menstrual cycle after treatment. Results: After treatment, the clinical efficacy of the herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion group had the tendency to be superior to that of the mild moxibustion group, while there was no statistically significant difference in the overall efficacy between the two groups (P>0.05). The VAS and CMSS scores after treatment and at the follow-up were significantly lower than those before treatment in both groups (all P<0.05). At the follow-up, the VAS scores in both groups had no significant intra-group differences from those after treatment (both P>0.05). The CMSS scores in both groups were significantly lower than those after treatment (both P<0.05). The VAS scores at the follow-up of both groups had no statistical differences from those after treatment (both P>0.05). After treatment, the CMSS score in the herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion group was significantly lower than that in the mild moxibustion group (P<0.05). At the follow-up, there were no statistical differences in the CMSS score between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion has the same therapeutic efficacy for dysmenorrhea as the mild moxibustion; the two moxibustion methods can significantly improve the concomitant symptoms of dysmenorrhea, and the herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion is little better.

[Abstract ] Objective Silicosis is one of the most serious occupational diseases in China .In this study,we explored the reg -ulatory effect of N-acetyl-seryl-aspartyl-lysyl-proline ( Ac-SDKP ) on angiotensin ( Ang ) Ⅱ-induced extracellular signal-regulated ki-nase ( ERK1/2) and Jun N-terminal kinase ( JNK) signals and its inhibitory effect on the differentiation of human embryonic lung MRC-5 fibroblasts to myofibroblasts via Ang Ⅱ-induced ERK1/2 and JNK signals . Methods Human embryonic lung MRC-5 fibro-blasts were induced by Ang Ⅱand pre-treated with the JNK signal inhibitor ( SP600125 ) , the ERK1/2 signal inhibitor ( PD98059 ) or Ac-SDKP.The proliferation of the cells was measured by MTT assay .The expressions of αS-MA, SRF, p-ERK1/2 and p-JNK were determined by immunocytochemical staining , and the expression levels of these proteins and collagen Ⅰwere detected by Western blot .Results The A value of Ang Ⅱ group (0.56 ±0.08) measured by MMT assay was 2.07 fold as control group ( 0.27 ±0.05 ). Pretreatment with SP600125 , PD98059 and Ac-SDKP, the A value were (0.39 ±0.02), (0.40 ±0.03) and (0.36 ±0 0.5) that had a statistical significance with Ang Ⅱgroup. The up-regulation of colla-gen type Ⅰ,α-SMA, SRF were induced by Ang Ⅱ by 4.50, 3.50 and 3.00 fold compared with control group. Moreover, the expression of p-ERK1/2 and p-JNK were increased as 6.71 and 7.90 fold as control. Pre-treatment with Ac-SDKP could inhibit p-JNK and p-ERK1/2 to 29.79% and 46.84% compared with AngⅡ group. Conclusion Ac -SDKP can inhibit the differentiation of human embryonic lung MRC-5 fibroblasts to myofibroblasts by regulating AngⅡ-induced JNK and ERK1/2 signals.

Objective To investigate the association between the glycated albumin to glycated hemoglobin (GA/A1c) ratio and carotid plaque. Methods Type 2 diabetic (T2DM) patients in endocrine inpatient department of Sichuan Provincial People′s Hospital were chosen whose clinical data were collected. Results Of the recruited 154 T2DM patients , GA/HbA1c ratio was negatively correlated with BMI , blood uric acid and was positively correlated with age, HCY, FBG, PBG, left carotid IMT and right carotid IMT. In terms of carotid plaque, GA, GA/HbA1c ratio and HCY were higher in carotid plaque positive patients than those without carotid plaque. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that GA/HbA1c ratio was significantly associated with the presence of carotid plaque (P=0.008). Conclusions GA/HbA1c ratio was positively correlated with the presence of carotid artery IMT in T2DM This suggests that GA/HbA1c ratio will serve as a useful clinical marker for predicting diabetic cardiovascular complications.
