Objsective: Glycyrrhizia uralensis, one of the most widely-used traditional Chinese medicines, is mainly cropped in China. However, many cultivars are less in glycyrrhizic acid than Chinese Pharmacopoeia requires. In this paper, we improved glycyrrhizic acid by regulating β-amyrin synthase gene (GuBAS). Methods: Tobacco root-specific promoter TobRB7 and GuBAS cDNA were obtained and combined with linearized pCAMBIA1305.1 to construct root-specific plant expression vector which was later transformed into Agrobacterium rhizogenes ACCC10060 by electrotransformation. The cotyledons and hypocotyls of G. uralensis were infected by the recombinant A. rhizogenes ACCC10060 to induce hairy roots. The GA content was quantified by HPLC. Results: The PCR and sequencing results both showed that three transgenic hairy root lines were obtained. The copy number of GuBAS in these transgenic hairy roots was intended by qRT-PCR to be 3, 7, and 4. GA was detected by HPLC, and the results showed that GA was present in the three transgenic hairy roots, while absent in wild hairy roots. Conclusion: Over-expressing GuBAS root-specifically in hairy roots of G. uralensis enhanced GA accumulation.

Objective To explore the values of CT virtual gastroscopy (CTVG), three dimensional (3D) and axial imaging by multi slice spiral CT (MSCT) in the preoperative assessment of gastric carcinoma. Methods Fifty two patients with gastric carcinoma proven by means of biopsy underwent CTVG, 3D imaging using the surface shaded display (SSD) and Raysum, and axial imaging. MSCT was first performed after the ingestion of gas, and a second tri phase MSCT scan was performed after the ingestion of water. The results were compared with those of fibrous gastroscopy (FG) and surgical pathological findings. Results The detection rates of gastric lesions with CTVG, 3D and axial imaging by MSCT were 98.1%, 96.2%, and 96.2%, respectively. Objective To investigate the performance of MSCT in the diagnosis of metanephric adenoma.Methods The imaging data of 5 cases of metanephric adenoma confirmed by operation and pathology in our hospital were collected and analyzed retrospectively.The location, size, shape, density and enhancement of the lesion were further retrospectively analyzed.Results In the incorporated 5 cases of metanephric adenoma, the male to female ratio of cases was 1:4, all were unilateral, including 2 cases of the right kidney,3 cases of the left kidney,2 cases were located in the upper pole, 2 cases in the polar region, 1 case in the lower pole of the kidney.Maximum diameter of the metanephric adenoma ranged from 2.9 cm to 8.4 cm, with an average value of 4.8 cm.The shape of metanephric adenoma was classified into: round (3 cases) and oval (2 cases).On plain scanning slightly lower density was found in 2 cases, equidensity in 2 cases and slightly higher density in 1 case.Furthermore,1 case had small punctatel calcification in the edge of the lesion,1 case with renal papillary carcinoma.4 cases underwent plain and enhanced scanning,and 1 case plain scanning,in which slight density increase after intravenous enhancement was showed in 3 cases,moderate enhancement in 1 case,more uniform enhancement in 3 cases,uneven enhancement in 1 case,delayed enhancement in 4 cases.Conclusion The characteristic MSCT features of metanephric adenoma have a certain specificity.Preoperative correct understanding is helpful to guide the operation scheme.

There have been many studies on the nutrition and the growth status of children from rural and remote western regions of China,whereas researches on children from urban low-income families are scarce.This study aimed to investigate the growth and nutritional status of children under five years of age from urban low-income families in China.There were 169 children aged 25-60 months recruited from Xiangtan and Jilin,two cities with a population of 2.81 million and 4.26 million respectively,in China in this cluster cross-sectional study.Data were collected on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics,the feeding practices and the incidence of anemia and diarrhea.The results showed that the prevalence of low birth weight and macrosomia was 7.l％ and 9.5％ for the two cities,respectively,which was higher than that for other cities in China (1.5％ and 5.9％).Of all the sampled children,14.6％ and 8.2％ suffered anemia and diarrhea,respectively.Multivariate analysis showed that legumes or nuts fed in a 24-h recall increased the risk of anemia (OR=4.9).Children whose caregivers began to introduce complementary foods relatively late would have high diarrhea prevalence (OR=1.4).In conclusion,the prevalence of anemia and diarrhea in under-five children from urban low-income families in China is relatively high.The growth and nutritional status of these children is greatly affected by feeding practices.A series of measures should be taken by relevant government departments to improve the health of these children.

The incidence of deacclimatization to high altitude syndrome (DAHAS) prevailed up to 80% in highland troops, and 100% in manual workers, and severe DAHAS could significantly affects patients' health, work and life. So it is imperative to develop effective prevention and treatment measures for DAHAS. The present review analyzes effective prophylactic and therapeutic measures against DAHAS, implemented at our hospital.

OBJECTIVEHigh altitue pulmonary edema (HAPE) impacts seriously people's health at high altitude. Screening of susceptibility genes for HAPE will be used for the evaluation and protection of susceptible people.

METHODSWe performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using Affymetrix SNP array 6.0 in 23 HAPE patients and 17 healthy controls. GO and Pathway analysis softwares were used to analyze and draw gene network.

RESULTSThirty-nine SNPs were found to be significantly different between case and control groups (P < 10(-4)). GO and Pathway analysis of 27 genes around the 39 SNPs indicated that these genes mainly participate in the regulating of cell proliferation, regulation of nitrogen compound metabolic process and G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway and so on.

CONCLUSIONIt suggests that these SNPs and genes found in this study may be associated with the susceptibility of HAPE.

During the process of electroacupuncture (EA) therapy, whether there being a corrosive effect in ac- upuncture needles was observed. Acupuncture needles were inserted into a rabbit's acupoint to perform a 12-hour electrical stimulation with three types of common EA waveform; additionally two needles were put in 0.9% sodium chloride solution with 12-hour direct current. Afterwards, environmental scanning electron microscope was applied to detect the surface physical characteristics of acupuncture needles. As a result, after a 12-hour continued electri- cal stimulation with three types of common EA waveform in the rabbit, there was no corrosive effect in acupunc- ture needles; but the direct current could cause severe corrosion in acupuncture needles. It is believed that there is no corrosion effect on acupuncture needles in current EA treatment, and some accidents reported in literature may be related to quality of EA device or improper manipulation during the treatment.

Objective To understand the current situation of endemic fluorosis in Shandong Province,and to provide a scientific basis for development of control strategies.Methods In accordance with the requirements of the national Surveillance Scheme of Drinking-Water-Borne Endemic Fluorosis (Trial) and Shandong Provincial Surveillance Scheme of Drinking-Water-Borne Endemic Fluorosis (Trial),and to understand the progress of the province's water-improvement projects,10 counties were chosen in the province,and 10 water-improvement projects were selected in each county.Running condition of the water-improvement projects was investigated,and water fluoride content was tested.Three epidemic villages were chosen as fixed monitoring villages in each county.In each village,fluoride content in drinking water was determined,and dental fluorosis of all children aged 8 to 12 was diagnosed.Water fluoride content was determined by fluoride ion selective electrode method,and dental fluorosis of children aged 8 to 12 was diagnosed by Dean method.Results ① There were 3570 water defluoridation projects in the province,and water-improvement rate was 87.49％ (10 122/11 569).Normal operating projects accounted for 89.10％ (3181/3570),and the passing rate of water fluoride content was 73.14％ (2611/3570),with the maximum water fluoride as 9.71 mg/L.② In the 10 counties,a total of 86 waterimprovement projects were monitored.Normal operation,intermittent operation and scrapped projects accounted for 95.35％ (82/86),3.49％ (3/86) and 1.16％ (1/86),respectively,and passing rate of fluoride content in water was 50.00％ (43/86),and the maximum water fluoride was 5.32 mg/L.③ In the 27 monitored villages with improved water quality,the passing rate of fluoride content in water was 74.07％ (20/27),and the maximum water fluoride was 4.50mg/L.In the 3 monitored villages without improved water quality,villages of mean water fluoride ≤ 1.20 mg/L and ＞ 1.20 mg/L accounted for 33.33％ (1/3) and 66.67％ (2/3),respectively,and the maximum water fluoride was 1.53 mg/L.④ In the 27 monitored villages with improved water quality,the detection rate of dental fluorosis among children aged 8 to 12 was 57.65％(791/1372),and the detection rate of defect type dental fluorosis was 7.80％(107/1372); the index of dental fluorosis was 1.15.In the 3 monitored villages without improved water quality,the detection rate of dental fluorosis among children aged 8 to 12 was 50.97％ (80/155),and the detection rate of defect type dental fluorosis was 7.10％(11/155); the index of dental fluorosis was 1.16.Conclusions In Shandong Province,the running condition of water improvement project to reduce fluoride still needs to be further improved,and the water fluoride is seriously overweight and endemic fluorosis has not been effectively controlled.Preventive measures should be strengthened.

Objective To study the synchronization of carotid artery wall motion with atheroscleroticsoft eccentric plaque using velocity vector imaging(ⅤⅥ). Methods Seventy-two patients with carotid artery atherosclerotic soft eccentric plaque were enrolled in this study. Their carotid arteries were examined using Acuson Sequoia 512 instrument respectively.Combined with ECG,two dimensional imaging of short axis view of carotid artery atherosclerotic soft eccentric plaque were recorded and analyzed on-line using ⅤⅥ software. The carotid artery wall of short axis was automatically divided into 6 segments. Time to peak index (TTPI)was calculated respectively. Results The TTPI was significantly higher than that of control group (P＜0.001). A cut-off value＜0.595 of TTPI for assessing the synchronization of carotid artery wall motion had a sensitivity of 93.9%,a specificity of 91.7%,respectively. Conclusions ⅤⅥ provides a new tool to assess the synchronization of arterial wall motion.
