Objective To investigate the protective effect of carnosine on Glutamate induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells and its mechanism. Methods The injury model was established by treating SH-SY5Y cells with glutamate in vitro.Inverted microscope was used to observe cell morphology. The cell viability was detected by MTT assay, and changes in nucleus were detected by Hoechst33258 staining under fluorescence microscopy. The cell apoptosis rates were measured by flow cytometry. The reactive oxygen species ( ROS ) level in cells was detected by fluorescent probe CDFH-DA. Results Compared with normal control group, the cell viability in glutamate group decreased (P<0.01), the morphology changes of cell apoptosis such as karyopyknosis and split were observed by Hoechst33258 staining, while the apoptosis rate and the level of ROS were increased (P<0.01). Compared with glutamate group, the cell viability of carnosine 0.6,3,15 mmol/L groups obviously increased(P<0.01), while the morphology changes of cell apoptosis significantly improved, the apoptosis rate and the level of ROS were obviously reduced ( P<0.01 ) .Compared with normal control group, the cell viability, the morphology changes and the apoptosis rate did not significantly change in carnosine group. The level of ROS was reduced, but there was no statistically significant difference between two groups. Conclusion Carnosine has apparent protective effect on apoptosis of SH-SY5Y cells injury induced by glutamate. The mechanism may be related to carnosine prevent the occurrence of oxidative stress.

Traditional processes are mostly adopted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation production and the quality of products is mostly controlled by terminal. Potential problems of the production in the process are unpredictable and is relied on experience in most cases. Therefore, it is hard to find the key points affecting the preparation process and quality control. A pattern of research and development of traditional Chinese medicine preparation process based on the idea of Quality by Design (QbD) was proposed after introducing the latest research achievement. Basic theories of micromeritics and rheology were used to characterize the physical property of TCM raw material. TCM preparation process was designed in a more scientific and rational way by studying the correlation among enhancing physical property of raw material, preparation process and product quality of preparation. So factors affecting the quality of TCM production would be found out and problems that might occur in the pilot process could be predicted. It would be a foundation for the R&D and production of TCM preparation as well as support for the "process control" of TCMIs gradually realized in the future.

OBJECTIVETo study the therapeutic effects of Qianggan Capsule (QC) combined Lamivudine on hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
METHODSEighty-five patients were randomly divided into two groups, group A (40 cases) were treated with QC and Lamivudine and group B (45 cases) were treated with QC alone both for 6 months. Hepatic fibrosis related indexes and pathologic examination of liver biopsy were performed within 3 months before treatment and in 1 month after treatment.
RESULTSSerum levels of hyaluronic acid, collagen N and laminin decreased markedly after treatment in both groups (P < 0.05). Hepatic histopathological examination showed that the total effective rate of impovement in activity of inflammation-necrosis and fibrosis was 80.0% and 70.0% in group A, 57.8% and 75.6% in group B, respectively, the combined treatment showed a better effect in improving the activity of inflammation-necrosis than QC alone (P < 0.05), but with no significant difference to the latter in improving fibrosis.
CONCLUSIONQC combined Lamivudine could markedly reduce the activity of hepatic inflammation-necrosis, QC alone could also improve hepatic fibrosis.

Objective To make a preliminary investigation and summary of the technique and efficacy of the novel intracranial stent, Enterprise, together with hydro-detachable coils for the treatment of very small intracranial wide-necked aneurysms (diameter<3 nun and body-to-neck ratio<1.5). Methods Six cases with very small intracranial wide-necked aneurysms were treated with Enterprise stents and hydro-detachable coils. In 5 cases the Enterprise stent was implanted to cover the neck of the aneurysm, which was followed by the introduction of a microcatheter into the aneurysmal sac through the stent mesh to stuff hydro-detachable coils in order to fill the aneurysmal sac. In the remaining case, the microcatheter was placed into the aneurysmal sac before the Enterprise stent was inserted to embolize the aneurysm. Postoperative follow-up was conducted for 3-6 months. Results The operation was successfully completed in all 6 patients, with the implanted stents being in right place. The parent arteries remained patency in all patients. No complications occurred. Complete occlusion of aneurysmal cavity was obtained in four cases, and the occlusion degree of the aneurysmal cavity above 95% was seen in 2 cases. After the procedure, all the patients recovered well. Neither rebleeding nor symptoms related to thrombosis occurred during a clinic follow-up of 3-6 months. Conclusion Endovasculur embolization with Enterprise stent together with hydro-detachable coils is a safe and effective method for the treatment of very small intracranial wide-necked aneurysms. However, its long-term effect needs to be further observed.
