OBJECTIVETo study the anti-halitosis effect of sugar-free chewing gum through their influence on odor induced by cysteine.
METHODSTen volunteers were randomly divided into the treatment group and the untreated group; each group consisted of five volunteers. All volunteers consented to participate in a test in which breath odor was induced by cysteine. After the test, the treatment group chewed sugar-free chewing gum for 1 min, whereas the untreated group did not undergo any treatment. The effectiveness was determined by the percent reduction of H2S, CH3SH, and (CH3)2S response after the volunteers chewed gum for 1, 10, and 20 min.
RESULTSAt 1, 10, and 20 min, H2S of the treatment group was reduced by 82.68%, 92.27%, 97.47%, respectively, CH3SH was reduced by 65.49%, 73.79%, and 82.89%, respectively, and (CH3)2S was reduced by 60.45%, 73.82%, and 59.72%, respectively. The differences between the two groups at different times were significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONChewing gum can effectively inhibit cysteine-induced odor.

China Oncology 1998;0(01):-
Ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is an important mechanism regulating many processes of cellular biology, and also a potential target for abnormal regulation associated with malignancy. This pathway may up-regulate or down-regulate the expression of some tumor-inhibitory genes, transcriptional factors and cyclins, and alter the generation of MHC-I-restricting antigen peptides through the activity of specific proteasome, and consequently, participates in the genesis and progression of malignancy.

Objective Using STI and WMSI to evaluate the change of the heart sarcomere local systolic function which suffered from coronary heart disease (CHD), to evaluate the improvement of ischemic heart sarcomere local systolic function after PCI. Methods There are 40 CHD patients after PCI called the treatment group and 40 healthy persons called the control group. Echocardiogram was used to evaluate the change of ventricular wall motion score in the treatment group which was before and 1 week after PCI , compared with the control group. STI is used to get the SLs, GSL and SrLe of the left ventricle six walls in basal segment, middle segmentand apical segment systole. Results The ventricular wall motion index of the left ventricular myocardium obviously rose in CHD patients which was after PCI, compared with the control group (P < 0.05). And it obviously reduced in CHD patients after PCI, compared with CHD patients before PCI(P < 0.05). The results of SLs,GSL and SrLe are reduced in myocardial ischemia segment of CHD patients before PCI,compared with the control group (P < 0.05). But they are significantly improved in the the treatment group 1 week after PCI, compared to which is before PCI(P < 0.05). Conclusion STI and WMS can be used to evaluate the abnormal of regional and global function of myocardium which is caused to coronary artery stenosis the effect of PCI. The left ventricular motion function of CHD is decreased, but the left ventricle regional systolic function of hypokinetic segments in patients with CHD after PCI is significantly increased.

BACKGROUND:The main therapy of severe aplastic anemia in children is immunosuppressive therapy or stem celltransplantation, but the latter one is restricted due to few donor sources. Haploidentical hematopoietic stem celltransplantation is commonly used in leukemia, but it is stil rarely reported in the treatment of aplastic anemia. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of haploidentical hematopoietic stem celltransplantation combined with placenta-derived mesenchymal stem celltransplantation for children with severe aplastic anemia. METHODS:A 7-year-old girl who had been confirmed as having severe aplastic anemia for 1.5 years received a cotransplantation of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cells combined with placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells on July 9th , 2012. The donor was her mother. The preconditioning regimen consisted of fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and anti-thymocyte globulin. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Time of neutrophil recovery (>0.5×10 9/L) was+9 days, and hematopoietic reconstruction was complete at+12 days. The short tandem repeat analysis showed 100%donor’s genotype at+100 days. Immunosuppressive drugs were stopped at+8 months, and no acute or chronic graft-versus-host disease occurred. With a fol ow-up of 18 months, she was in the disease-free survival period. Our findings suggest that the cotransplantation of al ogeneic haploidentical hematopoietic stem cells and placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells is a new effective approach for children with severe aplastic anemia, which is worth exploring in the future.

BACKGROUND:Stem cel transplantation has gained considerable support recently. It provides new opportunities for treating diabetic neurogenic bladder. OBJECTIVE:To summarize the research progress in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s (BMSCs)transplantation in the treatment of diabetic neurogenic bladder. METHODS:The first author retrieved Sciencedirect, PubMed, Embase, Wangfang and CNKI databases, for relevant articles of BMSCs transplantation in the treatment of diabetic neurogenic bladder, published from 2000 to 2016. The key words were“bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s, diabetic neurogenic bladder, differentiation, transplantation”in Chinese and English, respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In patients with diabetic neurogenic bladder, the transplantation of BMSCs may provide safer and longer-lasting outcomes by repairing the damaged bladder and urethra. And it can produce various bioactive substances, which wil have nutritional paracrine effects on the bladder microenvironment, including anti-inflammation, promoting cel proliferation and improving cel survival. On the one hand, the BMSCs have the ability to migrate to the injury site via the blood circulation. On the other hand, BMSCs can produce various growth factors, as wel as the cytokines that can inhibit the inflammatory response. While the current clinical studies are lacking, its efficacy and safety needs further verification.

Objectives To investigate the inlfuence of polymorphisms of SLC19A1 80G>A, MDR1 exon26C>T and MDR1 exon21G>T/A on curative effect and adverse reaction of high-dose methotrexate in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Methods MALDI-TOF-MS technique was used to detect the polymorphisms of SLC19A1 80G>A, MDR1 exon 26C>T and MDR1 exon21G>T/A in 108 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The relationship of genetic polymorphism, survival rate and toxicity was analyzed. Results The 36-month event-free survival was not related to any polymorphisms of MDR1 and SLC19A1. Patients with mutant types of MDR1 exon26C>T and MDR1 exon21G>T/A showed a much higher MTX plasma levels at 24 hours and higher incidence of hepatic injury (P<0.05). Conclusions The genetic polymorphism of MDR1 exon26>T, MDR1 exon21G>T/A has a large inlfuence on hepatic toxicity and plasma concentra-tions of MTX.

This study was aimed to explore five Chinese medicine components or ingredients from Qu-Shi Hua-Y u Decoction (QSHYD) with uniform design method and screen ingredients assembling of Chinese medicine BZL pre-scription in order to verify its therapeutic effect on experimental fatty liver rats. High-fat diet was used in the estab-lishment of fatty liver rat models. Five effective ingredients (i.e., chlorogenic acid, geniposide, curcumin, polydatin and polysaccharide of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz) of QSHYD were used as study subjects. Uniform design was applied in the grouping design. The intragastric administration was given for four weeks. The screening index was the content of liver triglyceride (TG). The ingredients assembling of Chinese medicine BZL prescription was screened through uniform design and regression analysis. The same fatty liver animal model was used in the comparison be-tween QSHYD and rosiglitazone. The TG content in liver tissues of rats and serum ALT activity were detected. The pathological changes of liver tissues were observed (HE stain and oil red O stain) with Ridit analysis to verify its therapeutic effect. The results showed that through screening, the regression equation was Y = 15.083X1 + 5.321X2- 5.186X3 - 16.157X4 + 9.35X5 + 17.667X3X4 - 8.422X1X2 - 6.617X3X5 + 16.571 (X1: chlorogenic acid, X2:polydatin, X3: polysaccharide of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz, X4: geniposide, X5: curcumin). According to this equation, the best TG reducing effect occurred when the chlorogenic acid (X1), polysaccharide of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz (X3), and geniposide (X4) were the maximum dosage. It showed that the best combination in inhibiting TG content in liver tissues was X3, X4 and X1 (i.e. BLZ prescription). Among fatty liver rat mod-els induced with same high-fat diet, the screened Chinese medicine ingredient BZL prescription can obviously reduce its TG content in liver tissues and serum ALT activity ( P < 0 . 01 ) . It obviously improved the fatty degen-eration of rat's liver. It was concluded that ingredients assembling of Chinese medicine BZL prescription screened through uniform design can obviously prevent and treat fat deposition and injury of the liver among rat models induced by high-fat diet .
