Journal of Third Military Medical University 1984;0(01):-
The changes of pulmonary rheography of 12 bikers were investigated after they had been physically trained under hypoxic condition in a hypobaric chamber simulating altitudes of 2000 m, 3000m, and 4000m respectively. All the bikers were permanent inhabitants at 1895 meters above sea level. The changes were most marked on the rheographies taken at the simulated altitude of 4000m. Comparing with the control values at the sea level, the authors found that tonic interval (Q-a interval) on the bikers' pulmonary rheographies was prolonged. The amplitude, the mean rate of filling and the rate of maximal ascending of the systolic wave were decreased. The results showed that hypoxic physical training could result in the contraction of pulmonary vessels. In turn it caused pulmonary arterial hypertension and reduced the amount of blood circulating through the lungs. Pulmonary arterial hypertension could further increase the afterload of the right ventricle.Eight days after the bikers returned to the sea level, all the indices also returned to their original levels except the tonic interval. It is apparent that these changes are most likely to be functional rather than organic.

Objective To investigate the influence of truncated apoptosis inducing factor (AIFΔ1-480 ) on the proliferation and invasion of MCF-7 cells, and to clarify the possibility of promoting cancer gene-radiotherapy. Methods The human breast cancer MCF-7 cells were transfected with AIFΔ1-480 recombinant expression vector pcDNA3.1-Egr-1-AIFΔ1-480 (pE-AIFΔ1-480 )mediated by Egr-1;24 h after 2 Gy X-ray irradiation,MTT assay and Transwell invasion assay were performed to measure the changes of cell proliferation and invasion. The MCF-7 cells were diveded into normal control,pcDNA3.1,pE-AIFΔ1-480 ,2 Gy irradiation and pE-AIFΔ1-480+ 2 Gy irradiation groups. Results After transfection and 2 Gy X-ray irradiation, the cells proliferated very fast in normal control, pcDNA3.1 and pE-AIFΔ1-480 groups, and the proliferation regularity was similar. Compared with normal control group, the cell proliferation abilities were significantly decreased in 2 Gy irradiation and pE-AIFΔ1-480 + 2 Gy irradiation groups (P<0.05 ), and it was more obvious in pE-AIFΔ1-480 + 2 Gy irradiation group, and it was significant lower than that in 2 Gy irradiation group (P<0.05).The number of the cells permeating membrane was basically same in normal control,pcDNA3.1 and pE-AIFΔ1-480 groups;compared with normal control group, they were significantly decreased in 2 Gy irradiation and pE-AIFΔ1-480+ 2 Gy irradiation groups(P<0.05 or P<0.01);and it was more significant in pE-AIFΔ1-480+ 2 Gy irradiation group than that in 2 Gy irradiation group (P<0.01). Conclusion AIFΔ1-480 and ionizing radiation could inhibit the proliferation and invasion of human breast cancer MCF-7 cells, both of them have a synergistic effect, and Egr-1 promoter can enhance the suppression effect under radiation conditions.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2004;24(2):192-5
To investigate the value of echocardiography in the diagnosis of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC), 16 patients in our hospital were diagnosed to have TAPVC by echocardiography from year 1994 to 2001. In 11 cases the results of echocardiography were compared to those of surgery. Each patient was examined by using a combination of precordial, suprasternal and subcostal windows to visualize all the pulmonary veins and their drainage sites, common pulmonary venous trunk, and other associated abnormalities. Of the 16 cases, the drainage sites were as follow: supracardiac in 10, via vertical vein in 9, directly to superior vena cava in 1; cardiac in 5, via coronary sinus in 2, directly to right atrium in 3. Diagnoses were correctly made in all the 11 cases as confirmed by surgery. Echocardiography can also assess pulmonary arterial pressure and detect other associated abnormalities. It is concluded that echocardiography is the preferred examination method in the diagnosis of TAPVC before surgery. With careful examination using multiple windows and sections, TAPVC can be accurately diagnosed by echocardiography.
