Cerebellum connects with each part of the auditory pathway directly or indirectly, forming the anatomical basis for a cerebellar role in auditory process. Functional imaging studies and clinical observations provide more abundant support for this view. Tinnitus is one of the most common clinical manifestations when the auditory system is impaired and remains unsolved. Basic science researches in neurotransmitter chemistry and molecular biochemistry, together with functional imaging studies, indicate that cerebellum might contribute to the pathophysiology of tinnitus. In this review we summarize the current understanding of cerebellar role in auditory process and tinnitus.

Objective To observe the effect of Shenfu Injection (SI)on adriamycin(ADR)-induced calcium overload in myocardial cells of rats. Methods SD rats were randomized into normal group, saline group, ADR group, ADR+saline group, low-, middle-and high-dosage SI groups (treated with SI 0.3, 0.6 and 1.2gkg-1d-1). Except the normal and saline groups, the rats in other groups were given ADR injection. Meanwhile,SI groups received treatment of SI for two weeks. Three weeks after modeling, the single myocardial cells were isolated. The free Ca2+ concentration was detected by ionic imaging method, and the ionic current through L-type calcium channel in cellular membrane was observed by patch clamp technique. Results The free Ca2+ concentration, the mean open probability of L-type calcium channel in cellular membrane and the mean ionic current through L-type calcium channel were increased in ADR group (P0.05).Conclusion The mechanism of SI counteracting the ADR-induced calcium overload in myocardial cells may be related with preventing external calcium from entering the cells, and with inhibiting the release of internal calcium.

Objective To establish induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in patients with azoospermia by non-integrated approach. Methods Using the commercially available serum-free medium (TeSR?2) and embryonic stem cell culture medium (Stem Adhere? Defined Matrix) to define the culture system, the iPSCs were established by using non-integrated Sendai virus infection in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of azoospermia patients. The immunofluorescence, karyotype analysis, embryoid body differentiation and teratoma formation were used to identify pluripotency, karyotype and differentiation ability of iPSCs. Results The established iPSCs showed the characteristics of human embryonic stem cells. Immunofluorescence analysis showed that octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (OCT4), SRY-related-box protein-2 (SOX2), stage-specific embryonic antigen-4 (SSEA-4) and tumor rejection antigen-1-60 (TRA-1-60) were positive for the expression of stem cell pluripotency markers. Karyotype analysis showed that they had normal karyotype. In addition, embryoid body and teratoma tests showed that the iPSCs had the ability to differentiate into three germ layers in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion The induction of pluripotent stem cell line is successfully constructed by non-integrated approach in azoospermia patients.

Objective To observe the effect of breviscapine on the open probability(Po)and the average open time(To) of L-type calcium channel in the hippocampal neurons of the whole brain ischemia-reperfusion rat model. Methods The whole brain ischemia rat model was established. At the reperfusion periods of 1.5 h,3.0 h,4.5 h and 6.0 h,the hippoeampal CA1 neurons were dissociated abruptly and the Ca~(2+)electricity of single channel on the neuron membrane were recorded with cell-attach model of patch clamp techniques. The Po and To of the L-type calcium channel were an- alyzed and the effect of the breviscapine was observed. Results Different concentrations of breviscapine can decrease the Po and To of the L-type calcium channel in hippoeampal neurons, particularly within 3 hours after ischemia-reperfu- sion. Conclusions Breviscapine has protective effect on the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Objective To investigate the combination application of the intracranial buried electrode and electrical stimulation techniques in excising the epileptogenic zone in the central zone. Methods Seven patients with epileptogenic zone located close to or in the central zone of brain were recruited in the present study. The lone term ECoG monitoring and electrical stimulation of the codex were performed to identify the epileptogenic zone and the central zone of the brain after patients received intracranial electrode implants. The epileptogenic zone was excised with maximum preservation of the cen-tral zone. The patients were follow-up for 6 to 12 months, the outcomes were evaluated based on the Engel's scale and the Karnofsky(KPS)score. Results Seven patients did not experience any seizures and their Engei's and KPS scores were markedly improve after operation. Conclusions Intracranial buried electrodes and cortical electrical stimulation can guide the resection of epileptogenic zone in the central zone.Patients have no seizure and no serious dysfunction after operation and their quality of life was improved markedly.

Objective To investigate clinical value of pubococcygeal line (PCL) determined by dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) used in evaluating pelvic organ prolapse (POP), and investigate the relationship of pelvic organ prolapse quantitation (POP-Q) stage and pubococcygeal line (PCL) for the patient with POP. Methods Twenty patients with POP were evaluated by POP-Q stage and pelvic dynamic MRI examination simultaneously. Sagittal MRI images were acquired at rest and during maximal Valsalva using a fast gradient echo sequence two-dimensional fast low angle shot (FLASH) T1weighted image. The degree of prolapsed anterior vaginal wall, uterus and posterior vaginal wall were measured by PCL and compared with POP-Q system. Results There were 20 cases with cystocel diagnosed by POP-Q staging system, in which bladder neck or bladder base of 17 patients were under the PCL during maximum Valsalva. The concordance rate was 85% (17/20) between PCL and POP-Q stage. There were 19cases with rectocele diagnosed by POP-Q, in which the anorectal junction of 4 patients' PCL descent below more than 2. 5 cm. The concordance rate was 4/19 between PCL and POP-Q stage. There were 14 cases with uterine prolapse diagnosed by POP-Q staging system, in which uterine cervix of all descent below PCL. The concordance rate was 14/14 between PCL and POP-Q stage. However, it was noted that 5 cases did not reach POP-Q staging and their lowest uteri cervix were below or above PCL but less than 1 cm at maximal Valsalva. Conclusions Compared with POP-Q staging system, the reference line of PCL determined by dynamic MRI could diagnose uterine prolapse accurately and anterior vaginal wall with greater clinical value, however it was limited in diagnosing posterior vaginal wall prolapse effectively. Therefore, the clinical value of PCL should be further studied for evaluating POP.

ObjectiveTo explore the clinic symptom and the characteristics of video, tightly close, intracranial electroencephalogram (EEG) of patients with central region diastematia epilepsy. Methods Retrospective analysis of 9 patients with central region diastematia epilepsy admitted from June,2007 to August,2009.The characteristics of all patients' seizure symptom and EEG manifestation were analyzed using patients' medical history, video and EEG records.ResultsPatients with central region diastematia epilepsy had relatively long sezure history. The duration of seizure was commonly short, with frequent episode and no obvious intelligence impairment. The seizure was often accompanied with the hyperkinesia in the lower limbs.Scalp EEG showed discharges with low amplitude waves in the mean line area. The superhigh amplitude and regular rhythm slow sharp wave could be found in the diastematia cortex EEG.All patients had an Engel Class Ⅰ outcome after surgery.ConclusionThe seizure symptoms are characteristic in the patients with central region diastematia epilepsy, and some special manifestations can be found in different phase, wave amplitude, rhythm, lead array.
