Hyperthermia therapy employs artificial heat to treat malignant tumors. Hyperthermia uses a variety of physical energy to produce thermal effects in the body tissue. Hyperthermia elevates the temperature of tumor tissues to a certain degree and makes it maintained for a certain period of time to kill cancer cells and prevent normal cells from damage. Compared with other conventional therapy, hyperthermia has its special advantages and has become one of the novel comprehensive medical treatments for cancer therapy. This paper briefly reviews the action mechanism on hyperthermia against tumors and its clinical application in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer.

Kinetics of municipal sewage degradation in Expanded Granular Sludge Bed (EGSB) and Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors at 10℃ were investigated via continuous experimental equipments. The results indicated that the whole reaction process can be simulated by the first-order dynamic equation model. Dynamic parameters such as k, Vmax and Ks of UASB in hydrolysis acidification stage were 1.08 d-1, 2.8 d-1 and 372 mg/L comparing to those of 1.18 d-1, 3.5 d-1 and 112 mg/L in the methanogenesis stage respectively. The EGSB's k, Vmax and Ks were 2.91 d-1, 14.3 d-1 and 470 mg/L in the hydrolysis acidification stage comparing to those of 1.68 d-1, 6.6 d-1 and 103 mg/L in the methanogenesis stage respectively. Comparison of k values of the two stages in UASB and EGSB indicates that hydrolysis acidification stage is the controlling step for the whole reaction process of UASB, while methanogenesis stage is the controlling step in EGSB. Compared with UASB, municipal sewage treatment by EGSB at 10 ℃ can reach the same effluent requirement with lower retention time due to its effluent recirculation.

Background and purpose: ERCC2 gene silence by siRNA interference was observed in esophageal cancer cell line and it could change cell sensitivity to taxol. This study was to investigate the biological mechanism of paclitaxel-resistance in esophageal cancer cells. Methods: ERCC2 targeting siRNA (si-ERCC2) has been synthesized. The constructor were transfected into ERCC2 cell lines high-KYSE150(bigh expression of ERCC2) through lipofectamine. RT-PCR and flow cytometry (FCM) were used to detect the ERCC2 mRNA and protein expression levels. MTr assay was used to estimate the paclitaxel sensitivity of the cells. Results: In si-ERCC2 group, ERCC2 could not be detected and ERCC2 protein expression were reduced by 31.2%, 51.6% and 60.0%, respectively, 24,48,72 b after transfection. Paclitaxel IC_(50) value for si-ERCC2 group was 6.32±0.87 μg/mL, lower than the control group(49%). Conclusion: siRNA could successfully silence the target gene ERCC2 at the level of transcription and translation of the gene, the reduction of ERCC2 expression may reverse taxol resistance of the cells.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the method for uncertainty evaluation of determination of tin and its compounds in the air of workplace by flame atomic absorption spectrometry.
METHODSThe national occupational health standards, GBZ/T160.28-2004 and JJF1059-1999, were used to build a mathematical model of determination of tin and its compounds in the air of workplace and to calculate the components of uncertainty.
RESULTSIn determination of tin and its compounds in the air of workplace using flame atomic absorption spectrometry, the uncertainty for the concentration of the standard solution, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, sample digestion, parallel determination, least square fitting of the calibration curve, and sample collection was 0.436%, 0.13%, 1.07%, 1.65%, 3.05%, and 2.89%, respectively. The combined uncertainty was 9.3%.The concentration of tin in the test sample was 0.132 mg/m³, and the expanded uncertainty for the measurement was 0.012 mg/m³ (K=2).
CONCLUSIONThe dominant uncertainty for determination of tin and its compounds in the air of workplace comes from least squares fitting of the calibration curve and sample collection. Quality control should be improved in the process of calibration curve fitting and sample collection.

Objective:To silence ERCC2 (excision repair cross-complementing rodent repair deficiency, complementatin group 2,ERCC2) expression in esophageal cancer KYSE150 cells by small interfering RNA (siRNA) and observe the altered sensitivity of KYSE150 cells to paclitaxel (PTX) and elucidate the mechanism underlying the reversion of the PTX resistance of KYSE150 cells. Methods:ERCC2-targeted siRNA was synthesized in vitro and transiently transfected into ERCC2 overexpressing KYSE150 cells via Lipofectamine mediation. The mRNA and protein expression levels of ERCC2 were determined by using RT-PCR and FCM method, respectively. The sensitivity of KYSE150 cells to PTX was measured by MTT assay before and after siRNA transfection. Results:RT-PCR results suggested that the specific bands of ERCC2 mRNA were not detected in si-ERCC2 group at 24, 48 and 72 h post transfection. FCM results indicated that the expression levels of ERCC2 protein gradually decreased by 31.2%, 51.6% and 60.0% at 24, 48 and 72 h respectively(P<0.01). The IC_(50) value of PTX for ERCC2-silencing KYSE150 cells was (6.32±0.87) μg/mL, lower than that for control cells (P<0.01). Conclusion:siRNA successfully silenced the expressions of target gene ERCC2 at both the transcription and translation levels. Silencing ERCC2 expression partly reversed the resistance of KYSE150 cells to PTX.

Chinese Journal of Perinatal Medicine 2023;26(8):681-683
This article reported a case of fetal testicular torsion diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound. Ultrasound examination at 38 weeks of gestation showed a slightly enhanced echo in the left testicle of the fetus and fluid accumulation within the testicular sheath cavity and between the sheath and fascia, presenting a 'double-ring' sign. An emergency cesarean section was performed considering the risk of acute fetal testicular torsion. Postnatal ultrasound images revealed abnormalities in the left testicle of the neonate and peripheral effusion with a 'double-ring' echo. The patient was considered to have congenital testicular torsion (with a high possibility of extravaginal type) and received an emergency treatment of left testicular torsion reduction combined with testicular fixation surgery and right testicular fixation surgery. Six months after surgery, reexamination by ultrasound showed the testicles of the newborn were normal.
