This study was aimed to develop a simultaneous determination of zinc and cadmium with carbon fiber electrode by linear sweep stripping voltammetry. Effects of analytical base solution, accumulation potential, ac-cumulation time and scanning velocity were also investigated on the determination. The results showed that in 1 mol·L-1 H2SO4 medium solution, zinc and cadmium had good electrochemical response on the carbon fiber electrode and appeared sensitive anodic stripping peaks at-0.97 V and-0.77 V, respectively. The anodic stripping peak cur-rents and concentrations of zinc and cadmium showed good linear relationships, with correlation coefficients R2 of 0.996 5 and 0.995 4, respectively. The detection limits of zinc and cadmium (S/N=3) were 1.5×10-9 mol·L-1 and 1.0×10-10 mol·L-1, respectively. The average recoveries of zinc and cadmium were 98.9%and 98.1%with the rela-tive standard deviations (RSD) of 2.72%and 2.45%(n=6), respectively. It was concluded that the method of simul-taneous determination of zinc and cadmium with carbon fiber electrode was simple, sensitive and accurate.

Background:The clinical presentation of eosinophilic gastroenteritis( EG)is nonspecific and has not received much concern by physicians and pathologists. The diagnosis of EG was delayed in many cases. Aims:To explore the clinical features of EG. Methods:The clinical, laboratory, endoscopic and radiologic features and treatment in patients who were diagnosed as EG from October 2011 to September 2013 in Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University were analyzed retrospectively. Results:Median age of 10 EG patients was 41. 9 years. Four patients had a history of allergy or asthma. The time from onset to diagnose was 25 days on average. The most common symptoms were abdominal pain with bloating, diarrhea or vomiting. Eight patients had hypereosinophilia. Abdominal CT revealed uniform edema or stratified thickness of intestinal wall or ascites in 7 patients. Endoscopy revealed erythema, edema and erosion in antrum, duodenum or jejunum in 6 patients. All cases were confirmed as having eosinophilic infiltration by mucosal biopsy or examination of ascites. Seven patients were successfully treated with corticosteroid. One patients experienced relapse after discontinuing corticosteroids during following up. Conclusions:EG may be more common than previously recognized and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained abdominal pain with peripheral eosinophilia or uniform edema or stratified thickness of intestinal wall. Multiple biopsies in multiple sites including descending duodenum and pathological examination for finding eosinophil infiltration are the keys to confirm the diagnosis. Corticosteroids are effective in relieving symptoms and improving eosinophilia.

AIM: To evaluate the influence of anesthesia and different means of postoperative pain control on the T-lymphocyte during the perioperative period in patients with rectal cancer.METHODS: 40 adult patients, aged 65 or older, of American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class 2-3 were divided into two groups according to the type and means of postoperative pain managements. Group Ⅰ (n=20) received intravenous anesthesia and patient controlled analgesia(PCA), fentanyl (13 ?g/kg) for post pain; group Ⅱ (n=20) received intravenous anesthesia plus lumber epidural anesthesia and epidural PCA of morphine 5 mg plus ropivacaine 100 mg for post operative pain. Blood samples from internal jugular vein were obtained before surgery, at the completion of surgery and 24, 48, and 120 h post surgery for detecting CD3+, CD4+, CD4/CD8 counts of peripheral T-lymphocytes. In addition, blood cortisol level and pain intensity were assessed by visual analogue score (VAS)at each time point. RESULTS: Baseline(before anesthesia) values of CD3+,CD4+, CD4/CD8 in patients were messured and there was a significant decrease of all these values from completion of surgery to 48 h after surgery in both groups (P

The method for detecting the negative terms in Chinese electronic medical record (EMR) is useful in providing evidence for constructing concept index. In this respect, we adopted an improved method which combined maximum matching with mutual information in order to extract terms in EMRs. This method can overcome the influence of overlay ambiguity. In addition, for the determination of negative semantic, we also adopted an improved method which combined rule-based method with word co-occurrence. This new method can reduce the probability of appearance of false positive terms caused by punctuation input errors. The result showed that the negative predictive value is 7.85% higher than the rule-based method.

Objective To assess the characteristic of normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients with mild cogni?tive impairment (MCI). Methods This study included twenty-six cases of normal tension glaucoma patients who were diagnosed at ophthalmology department of Peking University Third Hospital. All the participants were examined by us?ing the scales of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), mini-mental state examination(MMSE), clinical dementia rat?ing (CDR), activities of daily living (ADL), Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA), Hamilton depression scale (HAMD), Pitts?burgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and polysomnography (PSG). The patients were then divided into Group with MCI (16 cases) and Group without MCI (19 cases). Results There was no difference between the two groups in gender, age, edu?cation, depression, anxiety and body mass index (BMI) (P>0.05), but significant difference in MoCA scores (P<0.05). The incidence rate of sleep disorder of PSQI in was 28.6%(10/35 patients) of total NTG patients, 43.8%(7/16 patients) in Group with MCI, and 15.8% (3/19 patients) in Group without MCI, respectively. The PSQI score was higher in Group with MCI than in Group without MCI (P<0.05). Sleep efficiency was higher in Group without MCI than in Group with MCI (P<0.05), but no difference was found between the two groups in six other indexes of PSQI (P>0.05). The in?cidence rate of sleep structure disorder of PSG in all the NTG patients was 85.7%(30/35 patients), 87.5%(14/16 pa?tients) in Group with MCI, and 84.2%(16/19 patients) in Group without MCI. Sleep time of NREM-N3 was significant?ly shorter in Group with MCI than in Group without MCI (P<0.05), but no difference was found between those groups in total sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep latency and REM time (P>0.05). Conclusion NTG patients with mild cogni?tive impairment are more prone to sleep disorders, especially sleep structure disturbance and short NREM-N3 time may affect cognitive function.

Objective To further investigate inhibitory mechanism(s) of resveratrol on varicellazoster virus (VZV) in vitro with our previously generated reporter cell line MV9G.Methods Cell-free VZVs were directly inoculated onto MV9G cells (CFVs direct-infection) or cell-associated VZVs wereco-cultured with MV9G cells (CAVs co-culture) to activate expression of reporter gene firefly luciferase in MV9G cells.Resveratrol was added before or after virus infection, roles of resveratrolon direct inactivation,on viral attachment to and penetration into MV9G cells,on intracellular viral replication and its IC50,inhibitorytime points and reversibility were assayed by comparing the luciferase activities reduction by resveratrol.Thereductions of VZV IE62 mRNA copies and IE62-antibody positive cells by resveratrol were further assayed. Results ATPs contents of MV9G cells in the presence of resveratrol over 30.0 μg/ml were concentrationdependently reduced, the CD50 of which was around 60.3 μg/ml.CFVs were premixed with 25.0 μg/ml resveratrol andincubated at 37℃ waterbath for two hours and then directly inoculated onto MV9G cells, luciferases activated by resveratrol-treated CFVs were reduced to around half of the untreated controls.MV9G cells were pre-incubated with resveratrol at 37℃ for 2 h and then directly infected with CFVs at 37℃ for another 2 h,the CFVs-activated luciferase was concentration-dependently reduced, but no big change was observed in those pre-incubated at 4℃.MV9G cells were co-cultured with CAVs in the presence of resvertrolfor 72 h,the CAVs-activated luciferases were markedly reduced in a concentration-dependent manner, the IC50 of which was around 8.7 μgml.Resveratrol was added in CAVs co-culture at 1,3,6,9,12,24,30,and 36 h post infection, the CAVs-activated luciferase in those resveratrol was added at 3,6,9,12,and 24 h post infection were significantly higher than those of controls.Resveratrol was withdrawn from CAVs coculture media, the CAVs-activated luciferases after withdrawal were significantly higher than those before, especially in those withdrswn at 24 and 72 h post infection. The IE62 mRNA levels shown by cDNA copiesdetected with SYBR Green RT-PCR and IE62 positive cells shown by monoclonal anti-IE62 antibody of thevirus-infected cells treated with resveratrol were significantly reduced with increase of incubation time withresveratrol. Conclusion Resveratrol was cytotoxic to MV9G cells, and the maximum resistant concentrationon MV9G cells was around 30.0 μg/ml,the CD50 of which was around 60.3 μg/ml.Non-cytotoxic resveratrol partly inactivated CFVs,inhibited viral penetration into rather than attachment to MV9G cells.Resveratrol inhibited CAVs' intmcellular replication strongly but reversibly in a concentration-dependent manner, the IC50 of which was around 8.7 μ/ml.The inhibition of resveratrol on VZV in vitro might be through suppression of IE62 gene transcription and expression in the early stage of infection.
