Objective To explore the method of correctly placing and fixing mesh plug and patch in tension-free hernioplasty. Methods The data of 123 cases of plug-mesh tension-free hernioplasty with the method of placing and fixing mesh plug and patch were reviewed. Observed the incidence of postoperative effusion, infection, sinus formation, skin flap necrosis and hernia recurrence. Results All patients were restored after operation 8 days. Followed-up 1.5 -10.0 years, there was no incision effusion, infection, skin flap necrosis in all cases. No relapse happened on the operated side and 5 cases of inguinal hernia occurred on the non-operated side. Conclusions Mesh plug and patch must be placed to cover the whole abdominal wall defects, and contact closely with surrounding healthy tissue. They need to be placed neatly, fixed firmly and perpetually without any damage to the normal tissue structure.

Objective To discuss a new temporal bone tomography radiographic technique for the assessment of cochlear implantation and its clinic value. Methods Plane radiographs of both the temporal bone tomography and cochlear position tomography were taken on 10 children after cochlear implantation. The numbers of inserted electrodes of both techniques were compared. Results The inserted electrodes were shown clearly in both techniques. There was no difference in the data be-tween the 2 methods and between the operation and radiography outcomes (P>0.05). Conclusion Temporal bone tomography is a new method to evaluate cochlear implants in postoperative patients.

Objective To explore the value of MRI dynamic contrast-enhanced in differentiating adrenal adenomas from nonadenomas with washout rate of enhancement and the increased SI ratio. Methods Thirty-six patients with 41 adrenal masses enrolled into this study. All these masses underwent conventional T 1WI and T 2WI sequence first, and then FMPSPGR sequence through the center of each mass. Precontrast and dynamic contrast-enhanced FMPSPGR scans were preformed after administration of contrast material of Gd-DTPA intravenously. The signal intensity(SI) of masses was measured on the screen by electronic cursor. The washout rate of enhancement and increased SI ratio were compared between adenomas and nonadenomas. The differentiating adrenal adenomas from nonadenomas were carried out based on combination of the washout rate and the increased SI ratio, meanwhile, the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis of adenomas were evaluated well. Results The sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis of adenomas were 74% and 73%,and accuracy was 73% when the washout ratio was used as a indicator at 5 min. The sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis of adenomas would be improved markedly when the combination of the washout ratio and the increased SI ratio was used as a indicator. The sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis of adenomas were 95%, 91% respectively, and accuracy was 93%. Conclusion Using MRI dynamic contrast-enhanced based on combination of washout rate of enhancement and the increased SI ratio, the diagnosis and differentiating diagnosis of adrenal adenoma and nonadenoma can be improved.

Objective: To compare effects of drug and psychotherapy in the treatment of depressive disorder. Methods: 63 depressive patients were randomly divided into two treatment groups: drug or psychotherapy. MMPI, SDSS and HAMD were used for assessing treatment effects on personality and social functions. Results: The effects of psychotherapy and drug were compatible for controlling symptoms of depression. Psychotherapy was superior to drug in preventing relapses, as well as improving cognitive and social functions. Conclusion: Psychotherapy should be applied to depressive patients. Dosage and duration of administering sedative antidepressants should be reduced in the treatment of depression.

Objective To explore the related factors to influence the curative effect of focused ultrasound treatment for non neoplastic epithelial disorders of vulva. Methods A total of 382 patients with non neoplastic epithelial disorders of vulva were included in this study and treated by focused ultrasound. During and after the treatment, the symptoms and physical signs of the subjects were observed, and the efficacy was evaluated. We analyzed the relation between pathologic type, age, course, area, or itch degree and curative effect. Results Symptoms of all patients were relieved, and appearance and color of the vulva became normal after the ultrasound treatment, with a total effective rate of 99.74%. The cure ratios of patients with different pathologic types, ages, courses, areas, and itch degrees were significantly different (χ2=9.58, P<0.01; χ2=22.385, P<0.01; χ2=32.260, P<0.01; χ2=57.99,P<0.01; χ2=42.13,P<0.01, respectively). Conclusion Focused ultrasound treatment is safe and effective for the nonneoplastic epithelial disorders of the vulva and the efficacy is associated with the pathologic type, age, course, area, and itch degree.

BACKGROUND:Low concentration of nicotine promotes the angiogenesis and facilitates the healing of skin wounds. However, the role of low concentration of nicotine on the repair of maxil ofacial soft tissue trauma especial y oral mucosa stil remains unclear
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effect of low concentration of nicotine on mucosa defect repair of rat hard palate.
METHODS:A circular soft tissue defect at 3 mm diameter was produced in the centre of hard palate of 65 Wistar rats. After the operation, animals were randomly divided into low concentration of nicotine with gel group, gel group and control group. Rats were sacrificed at 3, 7, 10 and 14 days post-surgery. The wound healing was detected with hematoxylin-eosin staining and the difference of wound healing in different groups was compared with gross observation and image measurement.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There was no significant difference in the wound healing in different groups on day 3 post-surgery. On days 7 and 10, the group of low concentrations of nicotine with gel was faster than gel group and control group (P<0.05);the wounds were completely healed on day 14, with no significant difference among the groups. Low concentrations of nicotine may promote the mucosa defects repair of rat hard palate.

The control group was given tropisetron hydrochloride 5 mg+normal saline 100 mL, 30 min before chemotherapy intravenously, once a day to the end of chemotherapy. The number and degree of vomiting and the serum 5-HT content were tested, and the safety test was conducted. Results The complete control rate and effective control rate of acute vomiting of electroacupuncture group and warm acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture group were higher than those of ginger moxibustion group and control group (P<0.05). The complete control rate of delayed vomiting in warm acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture group was significantly higher than that of electroacupuncture group, ginger moxibustion group and control group (P<0.05); The effective control rate was higher than that of ginger moxibustion group and control group (P<0.05); Electroacupuncture group and Ginger moxibustion group were higher than the control group (P<0.05). The scores of acute vomiting in electroacupuncture group and warm acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture group were lower than others (P<0.05). In delayed vomiting, warm acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture group's score was lower than other groups, with statistical significance (P<0.05); Electroacupuncture group and ginger moxibustion group were lower than that incontrol groups, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The levels of serum 5-HT in electroacupuncture group and ginger moxibustion group were higher than warm acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture group (P<0.05), but lower than the control group (P<0.05). No obvious adverse reactions were found in each group. Conclusion Different acupuncture methods had different clinical effects on acute vomiting and delayed vomiting caused by chemotherapy.
