OBJECTIVE:
To study the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and their relationship with lymph node metastasis.
METHOD:
The expression of COX-2 and MMP-2 in 86 NPC tissues and 30 normal nasopharyngeal tissues were evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis.
RESULT:
The positive rate of COX-2 and MMP-2 in NPC tissue was 75.58% and 66.28% respectively, which was significantly higher than that in normal nasopharyngeal (P < 0.01). The expression of both COX-2 and MMP-2 were positively correlated with lymph node metastasis (P < 0.01). There was a positive correlation between the expression of COX-2 and MMP-2 (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSION
COX-2 and MMP-2 expression are increased in NPC, and they may cooperate in the course of lymph metastasis of NPC.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of individualized repositioning maneuver in the treatment of posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(PC-BPPV)with limited neck movement.METHODS There were 163 patients with PC-BPPV admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology of Xiaolan People's Hospital of Zhongshan from January,2019 to July,2022 who were selected and divided into observation group(57 cases)and control group(106 cases)according to whether there was neck movement limitation or not.The control group was divided into control group 1(51 cases)and control group 2(55 cases)based on different reduction methods. The control group 1 were treated with modified Epley maneuver, and the observation group and the control group 2 were treated with individualized Epley maneuver. The cure rate and effective rate were compared among the three groups. The scores of vestibular symptom index(VSI),Berg balance scale(BBS)and the dimension scores of vertigo handicap inventory(DHI)were compared among the three groups before and after treatment.RESULTS There was no significant difference in the cure rate(84.37%vs.81.82%vs.80.70%)and effective rate(11.76%vs.10.91%vs.12.28%)among the three groups(P>0.05).After treatment, the scores of each dimension of VSI and DHI of PC-BPPV patients of the three groups decreased(P<0.01),and the scores of BBS increased(P<0.01),and there was no statistically significant difference in the scores of VSI(23.19±3.88 vs.23.70±4.01 vs.23.46±3.92),BBS(45.56±5.02 vs.45.14±4.98 vs.44.84±5.11)and each dimension of DHI among the three groups(P>0.05),respectively.CONCLUSION The individual Epley maneuver can effectively improve the vertigo status of patients with PC-BPPV with limited neck movement.

Objective To explore the clinical effect of training assisted by a lower limb rehabilitation robot on the bladder and intestinal function of paraplegic spinal cord injury survivors. Methods Thirty-eight paraplegic patients with spinal cord injury were divided according to their admission order into an experimental group ( n=19) and a control group (n=19). Both groups were given conventional rehabilitation training, while the experimental group was additionally provided with robot-assisted lower limb training in three stages:adaptation, training and con-solidation. It lasted 30 minutes daily, 5 days per week for 12 weeks. Before and after the training, an urodynamics examination system was used to evaluate the maximum urine flow, bladder capacity, residual urine volume, bladder pressure and detrusor pressure. Colon transit time, mean rectal pressure and intestinal function were measured using the colon transit test, a mean rectal pressure test, and the Functional Independence Measure ( FIM) scale respective-ly. Results The average bladder volume, maximum urine flow rate, average urine flow rate, detrusor pressure, bladder compliance, average rectal pressure and intestinal FIM score of the robot training group after training were all significantly better than before the training, as were the average residual urine volume and colon transit time. After the training, the average bladder volume, maximum urine flow rate, average urine flow rate, detrusor pressure, bladder compliance and average rectal pressure of the robot training group were all significantly higher than those of the control group, while the average residual urine volume and colon transit time were significantly smaller. Then, 32% of the patients in the experimental group achieved no less than 6 points for their average FIM score, significantly higher than in the control group. Conclusion Robot-assisted lower limb training combined with comprehensive rehabilitation training can effectively improve the bladder and intestinal function of paraplegic patients after a spinal cord injury.

ObjectiveTo analyze the morbidity and mortality characteristics and prevalence trends of asopharyngeal carcinoma among registered residents in Yuyao City of Zhejiang Province from 2012 to 2021, and to provide suggestions for the prevention and treatment of the cancer. MethodsThe incidence and mortality data of asopharyngeal carcinoma in Yuyao City from 2012 to 2021 were collected. The incidence, mortality, standardized rate, cut-off rate, cumulative rate and annual percentage of trend change were calculated. A linear logarithmic model was used to analyze the variation trend. ResultsFrom 2012 to 2021, the crude incidence rate was 6.46/105 in Yuyao, while the Chinese standard rate was 4.78/105 and the world standard rate was 3.68/105, which all increased over the years. The indicators in males were higher than these in females (χ2=85.377, P<0.01). The cumulative incidence rate of ≥65 years old group was the highest (13.63/105). The crude mortality rate was 2.45/105, while the Chinese standardized rate was 1.47/105 and the world standard rate was 1.14/105. The crude mortality rate in males was 3.25/105,which was higher than females(1.68/105)(χ2=20.958, P<0.01). Overall, the cumulative rate was highest reached its peak in ≥75 years old group (10.75/105). The male mortality rate reached its peak in the ≥80-year-old population (12.36/105), and the female mortality rate in ≥75 years old group (11.03/105). ConclusionThe incidence rate of asopharyngeal carcinoma in Yuyao City is generally increasing, but the mortality rate has no obvious variation. The key population for prevention and treatment in Yuyao City is male, middle-aged and elderly.
