Microbial contamination, growth and reproduction have a great influence on the quality of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and its preparation. TCM may be polluted by microbial in the production process due to ambient air, facilities and appliances and operating personnel, which affects the quality and efficacy of the final product. The GMP certification inspection standard of TCM manufacturing enterprises clearly established: "Sterilization methods of Chinese herbal medicine, intermediate products, finished products should follow the principle whether or not to change its quality", "TCM powder that used as medicine directly should follow the principle whether to do microbiological examinations". So it's particularly important for product quality, corporate energy consumption and its efficiency to choose the scientific and effective sterilization techniques and methods. Ozone is a kind of safe, environmentally friendly, efficient and no residue emerging sterilization technology. It has been widely applied in various fields of medical and health care and production and living. This paper mainly analyzed the ozone sterilization technology of TCM, aiming to explore the principle of ozone sterilization, the advantages, application status and existing problems and so on. The management regulations and implementation rules of ozone sterilization were summarized to make sterilization of Chinese medicine in the production, management, quality control and other aspects standardized, reasonable and scientific, and to provide the theoretical reference of the ozone sterilization technology for TCM and its preparation.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2008;10(2):170-172
OBJECTIVETo study the association of functional bladder capacity with the severity of bedwetting in children with nocturnal enuresis.
METHODSA questionnaire investigation was performed in 1 500 children with nocturnal enuresis and the functional bladder capacity was examined by B-ultrasound.
RESULTSThe ratio of males to females was 1.3:1. The majority of patients (87%) were in an age range of 5-10 years, followed by the 10-14 years group (12%), and the 15-18 years group (1%). Six hundred and thirty-seven patients (42.4%) showed a decreased functional bladder capacity (less than 50% of normal level). The patients were classified into four groups according to the severity of bedwetting (from severe to mild): > or =2 times per night (n=53, 3.5%), > or =7 times per week (n=969, 64.6%), 3-6 times per week (n=380, 25.3%) and 1-2 times per week (n=98, 6.5%). The incidence of the reduction in functional bladder capacity in the above four groups was 79.2%, 48.3%, 29.7% and 14.3% respectively and a significant difference was noted among the four groups.
CONCLUSIONSMost of children with nocturnal enuresis showed decreased functional bladder capacity. Functional bladder capacity is associated with the severity of bedwetting in children with nocturnal enuresis.

Journal of Forensic Medicine 2008;24(5):365-368
Lie detection technology has been applied increasingly to investigate and solve criminal cases. This article explores the evolvement of lie detection technology in the ancient times and the application of the psychological and physiological parameters which have become more accurate with the introduction of modern polygraph. The cognitive exploration and the application of Event Related Potentials (ERPs), functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), and Event-Related functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (E-R fMRI) have made detection technology focus on the brain activities, which produce more objective results by tracing the original state of lying. In summary, this article describes different types of lie detections, simple and complex, their working principles, the latest development, and the prospect of their application in forensic science.

Chinese Journal of Cardiology 2005;33(6):498-501
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of carvedilol on the cardiac function and autoantibodies against the cardiac beta(1), beta(2) and alpha(1)-adrenergic receptors in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).
METHODS54 patients with CHF were divided randomly into two groups, one was regular treatment group treated with ACE inhibitor, digoxin and diuretic, another was carvedilol treatment group treated with carvedilol on the basis of above regular treatment. All the patients were followed up for six months and measured the changes of cardiac function and three autoantibodies by echocardiography and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) respectively.
RESULTS(1) After carvedilol treatment, LVEDD and LVESD (57.50 +/- 7.29) mm and (43.17 +/- 8.27) mm were smaller than that in regular treatment group [(64.09 +/- 7.40) mm and (52.93 +/- 8.35) mm], and LVEF [(50.41 +/- 10.91)%] was higher than that [(41.70 +/- 7.45)%] in regular treatment group (P < 0.01). (2) After carvedilol treatment, the positive ratios and average titers of autoantibodies against the cardiac beta(1), beta(2) and alpha(1)-adrenergic receptors all decreased significantly compared with that of pre-treatment (P < 0.05). The positive ratios of autoantibodies against the three receptors in carvedilol treatment group were lower than those in regular treatment group (P < 0.05). The average titers of autoantibodies against the cardiac beta(1), beta(2) and alpha(1)-adrenergic receptors in carvedilol treatment group (1:72.44, 1:61.66 and 1:67.30) were lower than those in regular treatment group (1:113.24, 1:110.66 and 1:113.24), P < 0.05.
CONCLUSIONSCarvedilol decreased positive ratio and average titer of autoantibodies against the beta(1), beta(2) and alpha(1) receptors accompanied with the obvious improvement of cardiac function though the blockade of beta(1), beta(2) and alpha(1) receptors. It suggests that the autoantibodies might be involved in the process of pathophysiology and development of CHF. Carvedilol can inhibit this process.

To analyze and discuss placebo-related information in clinical research literatures in the past 30 years, including placebo's dosage form, ingredients, preparation process and quality control. Effort were made to research the CNKI. full-text database to preliminary find 700 placebo-related clinical research literature, screen out 301 eligible articles by hand, read the literatures to extract placebo-related information and make statistics and discussions. According to the results, Chinese randomized placebo-controlled clinical studies were characterized by diverse dosage forms of placebo with lack of reports for components, as evidenced by the only 17 literatures describing placebo's preparation or specific composition among the 301 literatures. Placebo-controlled clinical trials covered a wide range of disease spectra, but with a specific tropism of diseases in terms of system classification. Although placebo plays a key role in blinded clinical studies, researchers made less records of placebo, perhaps because they paid less attention to placebo or more attention to the research process or restricted by other objective conditions. Moreover, placebo production, quality control and quality evaluation also need to be further standardized.
