Objective To explore the role of process management in preventing peripheral central venous catheter (PICC)-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI). Methods A standard process management policy was established for the uniform management of PICC in our hospital. The incidences of CRBSI before and after the implementation of this policy were compared. Results The incidences of CRBSI was 6.0‰ (48/79 793 ) every 1000 catheter-days before process management and 2.9‰ (29/99643) after process management (P =0.000).Conclusion Standard process management can effectively prevent and control CRBSI caused by PICC.

Objective To analyze the relationship between pre - pregnancy body mass index ( BMI) ,gestational weight gain ( GWG) and the birth weight of infants, and explore the effect of weight change before and during pregnancy on low birth weight ( LBW) and macrosomia. Methods Women were enrolled by the Chinese Pregnant Women Cohort Study during first trimester. Each respondent's weight before and during pregnancy and the birth weight of infant were collected after fellow up. Prepregnancy BMI was divided into underweight, normal and overweight /obesity groups and GWG was divided into suitable, insufficient and excessive groups. Multivariate Logistic regression was adopted to explore the relationship be- tween pre-pregnancy BMI,GWG and newborn's birth weight. Results Women's prepregnancy BMI and GWG were associated with neonatal birth weight ( all P<0. 05) . Prepregnancy overweight or obesity ( OR=2. 339,95% CI: 1. 674-2. 282,P<0. 001) and excessive GWG ( OR= 1. 398,95% CI: 1. 188-1. 978,P= 0. 048) were shown as risk factors for macrosomia. Insufficient GWG increased LBW risk ( OR = 1. 479, 95% CI: 1. 461-1. 679,P= 0. 035) while excessive GWG declined LBW risk ( OR= 0. 428,95% CI: 0. 225 -0. 817,P= 0. 010) . Under weight-insufficient GWG was risk factor of LBW ( OR= 1. 335,95% CI: 1. 048 -2. 319,P= 0. 048) while normal BMI-excessive GWG ( OR= 1. 088,95% CI: 1. 016-1. 675,P= 0. 038) and overweight /obesity-excessive GWG ( OR= 1. 498,95% CI: 1. 244-2. 017,P= 0. 046) were associated with higher risk of delivering macrosomia. Conclusions Prepregnancy BMI and GWG were associated with infant's birth weight and women were suggested to maintain their weight in recommended range before and during pregnancy.

Objective To observe the radiosensitivity by targeting HIF-lα in human lung cancer and the effects on tumor growth in nude mice. Methods Radiosensitivity of A549 and A549/HIF-1α ( - ) cells were tested by clonogenic forming assay.A549/HIF-1 α( - ) cells and A549 cells were injected into the male BALB/C nude mice.Tumor growth was observed. The expression of HIF-1α and microvessel density were detected by immunohistochemistry method. Results SERs of HIF-1α gene silencing were 1.03 in normoxia and 1.65 in hypoxia. The sizes of tumor xenografts derived from A549/HIF-1α( - ) cells were significantly reduced compared to those of the xenografts derived from A549 cells.HIF-1 α protein staining result showed a dramatic decrease in tumors from A549/HIF-1α ( - ) mice. The microvessel densities (MVD) were 19.83 ± 4.09 in A549 group and 11.61 ±3.04 in A549/HIF-lα (-)group(F=15.57,P <0.05 ).Conclusions Hypoxia-induced radio-resistance in lung cancer A549 cells could be reversed by silencing the HIF-1α.It also retards the growth of tumor xenografts, decreases HIF-1α expression and reduces the vascularity.

Objective To investigate the changes in the expression of GABAAα1, receptors in medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) in a rat model of neuropathic pain. Methods Nine male Wistar rats weighing 200-210 g were randomly divided into 3 groups ( n = 3 each): control group (group C) , sham operation group (group S) and neuropathic pain group (group P). Neuropathic pain was induced by chronic constrictive injury. The right sciatic nerve was exposed and 4 loose ligatures were placed on the sciatic nerve at 1 mm intervals with 3-0 chromic catgut. In group S, the right sciatic nerve was exposed but not ligated. The thermal and mechanical pain threshold was measured at 1 d before and 1,4,7, 10 and 14 d after operation. The animals were then sacrificed and the mPFC was removed. The expression of GABAAα1, receptors in mPFC was determined by Western blot. Results Compared with C and S groups, thermal and mechanical pain threshold were significantly decreased and the expression of GABAAα1, receptors was up-regulated in group P ( P < 0.01) . There was no significant difference was in the thermal and mechanical pain threshold and expression of GABAAα1 receptors between C and S groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Up-regulation of GABAAα1 receptor expression in mPFC may be involved in the development and maintenance of neuropathic pain in rats.
