1.Application and expectation of data mining in traditional Chinese medical research of syndrome and treatment.

The data mining technology was introduced, and the law and peculiarity of TCM syndrome and treatment were analyzed in this paper. Concurrently, the application of the data mining in TCM researches on rule of syndrome and treatment was roughly summarized and its advantages and existing problems were pointed out. In order to enhance the efficiency and the appliance value of the mining technology and to accelerate the development of TCM research, the method for integrating multi-algorithms to make the mining was proposed.

2.Radiographic evaluation of the quality of root canal filling in a dental teaching hospital.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the quality of root canal filling performed by dentists and advanced dental trainees (ADTs) and the current level of continuing education in a dental teaching hospital.
METHODS2 043 cases, randomly completed by six dentists and eight ADTs over half a year, were divided into two groups. The quality of root canal filling was analyzed radiographically.
RESULTSThe overall percentage of the adequate root filling was 49.6%. The percentages of the adequate teeth filling and root canals filling (59.9%; 63.9%) by dentists were significantly higher than those (40.1%; 47.4%) by ADTs. In addition, the frequency of the adequate root canals filling by ADTs in the last two months (57.8%) was significantly higher than that in the first two months (40.0%), and the adequate filling rate by ADTs during the last two months was close to that by dentists.
CONCLUSIONSThe quality of root canal filling performed by dentists was adequate. There was a substantial improvement for ADTs in filling quality after six months training.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the genetic polymorphism, distribution of haplotypes, common and well-documented (CWD) and rare alleles of high-resolution HLA-A, B and DRB1 alleles by analysis from hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) donors in Jiangsu Han Chinese.
METHODSPCR-sequence-based typing and PCR-sequence specific oligonucleotide probes methods were applied for HLA-A, B and DRB1 high-resolution genotyping of 3238 unrelated healthy donors of hematopoietic stem cells in Jiangsu branch of Chinese National Marrow Donor Program registry.
RESULTS46 alleles of HLA-A,85 HLA-B and 51 HLA-DRB1 locus were found. The frequencies of the most common alleles were A * 11:01 (16.52%), B * 13:02 (11.60%) and DRB1 *07:01 (15.78%). That of the most common haplotype was A * 30: 01-B * 13: 02-DRB1 * 07: 01 (8.87%). 40 alleles of HLA-A,77 alleles of HLA-B, and 47 HLA-DRB1 alleles of HLA-DRB1 were CWD, which account for 99. 8% of total number of samples, and a few rare alleles not reported in Chinese population were found.
CONCLUSIONThe results of high-resolution, CWD and rare alleles showed the characteristics of HLA distribution in Jiangsu Han population, which may be useful for finding HLA matched unrelated donors, as well as for HLA correlation with population genetics and disease association studies.

5.Efficacy of intravenous scopolamine for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting after cesarean section.

OBJECTIVETo observe the efficacy of intravenous scopolamine in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after cesarean section (CS).
METHODSA total of 260 pregnant women with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status Classification class I-II who underwent elective CS under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) were randomly divided into four groups (n = 65): at the end of surgery, 0.3 mg/5 ml scopolamine (scopolamine group), 4 mg/5 ml ondansetron (ondansetron group), 0.3 mg scopolamine plus 4 mg ondansetron per 5 ml (combination group), or 0.9% normal saline 5 ml (control group) were intravenously infused, respectively. The episodes of PONV and adverse effects were observed within 24 hours after operation.
RESULTSThe incidences of PONV within 24 hours after surgery were 87.7%, 89.2%, and 92.3%, respectively, in scopolamine group, ondansetron group, and combination group, which were all significantly higher than that in control group (73.8%) (all P < 0.05). However, the incidences of PONV showed no significant difference among these three groups (P > 0.05). No significant difference in the incidence of adverse effects was observed among the four groups (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIntravenous scopolamine (0.3 mg), with a comparable efficacy as ondansetron 4 mg, can effectively decrease the incidence of PONV after CS.

6.Analysis on results of endodontic treatment and influencing factors.

OBJECTIVETo assess the clinical outcome of root canal therapy (RCT) and the various factors that may influence the outcome of RCT.
METHODSA total of 695 teeth from 357 patients were retrospectively studied three years after endodontic treatment. Pre- and intra-operative information was collected from the original patient records. The post-operative sign or symptom, periapical status and coronal restoration integrity were examined 3 years after obturation. Data were subjected to bivariate and multivariate analysis.
RESULTSThe cure rate for 695 teeth was 75.1%, 96.0% of which was considered to be functional. The tooth group, pre-operative pulp and periapical status, quality of root filling and integrity of coronal restoration were revealed by means of bivariate analysis to exert a significant influence on treatment outcome. The logistic analysis indicated that the odds for cure in the teeth with pre-operative periapical radiolucency, underfilling and "open" coronal restoration were significantly lower by 2 folds, 3 folds and 1.6 folds than their counterparts, respectively.
CONCLUSIONSThe pre-operative periapical status, quality of root filling and the integrity of coronal restoration are main predictors of outcome in RCT.

7.The changes of IGF-I in testis and epididymis on a rat model with oligozoospermia/azoospermia induced by cyclophosphamide.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of the levels of IGF-I in the epididymis and the expression of IGF-I in the testis of adult male rat after the administration of cyclophosphamide.
METHODSNinety-six male adult rats (8 weeks age) were divided into 6 groups. The doses given to the rats of the groups 1 to 5 were 10, 20, 40, 80 and 100 mg/(kg x d), respectively. The remaining group was served as control. All those rats were sacrificed and IGF-I were quantitatively determined by ELISA techniques 2 and 4 weeks after the administration of the drug (by gastric fudge). Immunohistochemical SP technique was used to examine expression of IGF-I in rat testis.
RESULTSThe levels of cell factors (IGF-I) in the epididymis of the rats were gradually reduced with the increasing time and dose after administration of the drug. In the mean time the expression of IGF-I in the tissues of the testis of those rats were also gradually reduced.
CONCLUSIONIn the time of oligozoospermia/azoospermia induced by the administration of cyclophosphamide, the expression levels of IGF-I in the genetic system were significantly reduced. The possible mechanism of these changes could be attributed to the lower spermatogenesis function of the testis caused by the administration of cyclophosphamide.

8.Genetic instability detected by flow cytometry: DNA aneuploid and P16 expression in biopsy specimens from lung cancer.

OBJECTIVETo investigate DNA aneuploid and P16 expression in biopsy specimens from lung cancer, and to study genetic instability and the application of flow cytometry in lung cancer pernicious degree diagnosis.
METHODSBlood cells and cancer cells in biopsy specimens were marked simultaneously with anti-CD45 and anti-P16 fluorescent antibody, and the ratio of CD45+ P16+ cells and CD4- P16+ cells was compared. DNA content in biopsy specimens from lung cancer was detected by flow cytometry.
RESULTSAmong the 74 cases of lung cancer, there are 46 cases of DNA aneuploid (62.2%). Thirty-seven cases of lung cancer expressed P16 lowly (50%). Twelve cases of lung cancer only expressed P16 lowly (16.22%), 21 cases of lung cancer only expressed DNA aneuploid (28.38%), and 25 cases not only expressed P16 lowly but also expressed DNA aneuploid (33.78%). Indexes of malign degree, such as P16 low expression or DNA aneuploid could be detected in 58 cases among the 74 cases (78.38%) by flow cytometry.
CONCLUSIONP16 low expression and DNA aneuploid are the indexes of lung cancer malign degree, and flow cytometry can be used to study genetic instability and evaluate biopsy specimens from lung cancer.

10. Epidemic characteristics of hand, foot and mouth disease related virus in Suzhou from 2010 to 2015

Objective:
To investigate the epidemical features, etiological and clinical characteristics of HFMD in Suzhou city, from 2011 to 2015, providing the scientific supports for HFMD prevention and control.
Methods:
In each district of Suzhou city, at least five specimens of mild cases were collected per month, while all of the severe cases were sampled. The RNA from each sample was examined using a commercially available real-time PCR kit. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 11.5 software.
Results:
