A moderately thermoacidophilic iron-oxidizing bacterium,designated as strain MLY,was isolated from a coal spoil heap in China.The optimum of temperature for growth is 50℃～54℃.The optimum of pH is 1.2～1.4.The strain MLY is facultative autotroph and grows heterotrophically on yeast extract.It is able to oxidize ferrous iron(Fe 2+ ),pyrite(FeS 2),and elemental sulfur(S 0) autotrophically and mixotrophically in the presence of yeast extract.Autotrophic oxidation of elemental sulfur is relative weak.The comparison of ferrous iron and pyrite oxidation between strain MLY and A10 Thiobacillus ferrooxidans,strain indicated that MLY is one time faster than A10.

Objective To assess the effectiveness of different concentration of iodized salt for preventing iodine deficiency disorders. Methods Using the principle and method of systematic review, we searched Cochrane Library(from 1994 to Mar. 2007), Medline(from 1966 to Mar. 2007), BA(from 1969 to Mar. 2007), PubMed(from 1950 to Mar. 2007), OC1D(from 1950 to Mar. 2007), ISI Web of Knowledge(from 1966 to Mar. 2007), Vip (from 1989 to Mar. 2007), Wanfang(from 1997 to Mar. 2007), CBMDisc(from 1978 to Mar. 2007) and CNKI(1994 to Mar. 2007) and hand searched 6 relevant Chinese journals, including Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine, Chinese Journal of Endemiology, Chinese Journal of Epidemiology, Chinese Journal of Control of Endemic Disease, Endemic Diseases Bulletin and Modern Preventive Medicine. We screened the for eligible studies according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria to be rigorously evealuatecl descriptly and qualitatively. Results Thirteen studies were included, of which, the first six were intervention trials with comparison, including two community intervention trials, which classified all objects into different groups, using iodized salt at different concentration as intervention, four were RCTs with different intervention methods, compare the iodized salt with other intervention measures. Seven were cross-sectional studies, which analyzed the iodine nutrition of people after the concentration of iodized salt was lowered down. Because of different interventions in control groups and different outcome measures, it was difficult to perform recta-analysis, a descriptive analysis of the results was presented. Most studies showed that urinary iodine level decreased as the concentration of iodized salt went down gradually. When the concentration of iodized salt went down to the best level recommended, goiter rate decreased obviously. Conclusions Iodized salt was considered as the hest method of iodine supply to prevent iodine deficiency disorders. But effectiveness of preventing iodine deficiency disorders with various concentration of iodized salt is different. To lower the concentration of iodized salt properly can not only prevent iodine deficiency disorders but also reduce the side effect of excess iodine intake to the minimum. And it can also save a lot of iodine resource. Well-designed community-based intervention trials with large sample size are needed to confirm the effect of different concentration of iodized salt on preventing iodine deficiency disorder.

AIM: To study the effect of ?-amyloid protein (?-AP) and D-galactose(D-gal) on learning-memory and SOD activity and MDA content of hippocampus in rats. METHODS: The behaviors of rats were measured by using open field, Y-maze and one-trial passive avoidance response, and the content of SOD and MDA were measured. RESULTS: In the D-gal and D-gal+?-AP group rats, the spontaneous activities and responses to novel environment in the open field were significantly decreased, and the abilities of learning-memory were remarkably attenuated, the content of SOD decreased and MDA content increased markedly in hippocampus (P

AIM:To explore the clinical value of combined detection of C-reactive protein ( CRP ) , erythrocyte sedimentation rate ( ESR) and white blood cell ( WBC) count in patients with ocular syphilis.
METHODS:Dates of CRP, ESR, WBC, TPPA and RPR of 51 ophthalmopathy patients caused by syphilis and 50 normal control from Jan. 2012 to Dec. 2015 in eye hospital were recruited and analyzed statistically.
RESULTS:The positive rates of CRP, ESR and WBC of oculopathy patients were 16%, 18% and 39%, respectively, which were higher than those in the control group. In patients group, the positive rate of ESR was higher than CRP and WBC. There were no obvious relationships between RPR titers and positive ratios of CRP, WBC and ESR.
CONCLUSION: The blood level of CRP, WBC and ESR may have certain help in estimating and monitoring condition of patients with ocular syphilis.

Objective To evaluate the effect of multidisciplinary intervention on antimicrobial prophylaxis in neurosurgical patients undergoing craniotomy for tumor resection.Methods By standardizing preoperative disinfection and surgical procedures, training and education of antimicrobial use, conducting quality control activities, and performing periodic feedback of supervised results, efficacy of improvement of antimicrobial prophylaxis in neurosurgical patients undergoing craniotomy for tumor resection in a hospital was observed.Results In 2013 and 2014, incidences of surgical site infection(SSI) were 7.66%(17/222)and 6.80%(27/397) respectively,there was no significant difference between two groups(X2 =0.158,P>0.05).Prophylactic use of antimicrobial agents in surgical patients were as follows: cefuroxime(n=495), cefazolin(n=103), cefathiamidine(n=9), clindamycin(n=8), and cefotaxime(n=4), types of used antimicrobial agents were rational.In 2014, the implementation rate of necessary intra-operative antimicrobial adding was 95.02%, which was higher than 87.66% in 2013(X2=7.969,P<0.05), 30.73% of patients received antimicrobial prophylaxis for>48 hours, which was lower than 57.66% in 2013, difference was significant(X2=42.88,P<0.05).Conclusion Multi-intervention measures, including standard preoperative disinfection and surgical procedures, education and training, quality control circle, and feedback of supervised results can improve standard antimicrobial prophylaxis in neurosurgical patients undergoing craniotomy for tumor resection.

Objective To observe the curative effect of botulinum toxin A(BTX-A)repeated intramuscular injection for treatment of serious spastic cerebral palsy.Methods Thirty cases with serious spastic cerebral palsy received local repeated intramuscular injection. The interval time was 3 months. The dose of BTX-A was 4 U/kg.The muscle tone was assessed with the modified ashworth scale and range of motion with physical rating scale(PRS).The indexes were evaluated before injection and 3 months after the second injection. Objective To study the clinical application of quantitative ultrasound(QUS) which evaluate skeletal status of children and adolescents.Methods Subjects were children and adolescents aged 0-18 years old.Tibia/radial bone strength was obtained using QUS.Children who were younger than 2 years old only were measured at midpiece of tibia,and children who were older than 2 years old were measu-red at midpiece of tibia and radius.At the same time,calcium in peripheral blood was measured by the method of atomic absorption.Results 1.Radial and tibial bone strength presented nonlinear growth with age in healthy children and adolescents.2.Bone strengths of different anatomic-sites were different and the disparity rate of evaluation at different anatomic sites was 30.1%.3.The bone strength of the children who had some risk factors that could induce decrease of bone strength or had some diseases of bone metabolism was lower than healthy children.Composition of low bone strength children was 71.1% in high risk children,and was 47.9% in those who had some symptom or physical sign of calcium deficiency.4.Composition of low bone strength children was 44.2% in those who had normal peripheral blood calcium,and composition of normal bone strength children in those who had low peripheral blood calcium was 59.7%.The 2 methods had no correlation.Conclusions QUS is a quite useful technique in evaluation skeletal status of children and adolescents,and is sensitive for high risk children.It is necessary to measure radius and tibia,and consider blood calcium and bone strength to evaluate practical level of calcium and nutritional state of children.

Objective To explore the effect of brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) on the birth weight and the brain weight of newborn rats with intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR).Methods Female and male Sprague-Dawley rats were mated together and the vaginal plug formation after mating was for pregnancy diagnosis.The day when the plug was observed was considered day 1 of gestation.Then,the pregnant rats were divided into IUGR group and sham surgery group.On day 17 of gestation,the uterine arteries of pregnant rats in IUGR group were clamped for 30 min by blood vessel forceps after abdominal cavity with clamping blood uessels was opened.The pegnant rats in sham surgery group only had abdominal cavity opened without clamping blood vessels.Then the pegnant rats in IUGR group received 9 g/L saline(IUGR group) or BDNF 1 ?g injected in the rat through caudal veins for 5 days after surgery(BDNF intervention group).After vaginal birth,the weight of newborn rats and their brain weigh were measured and analyzed.Results Compared with the sham surgery group,the birth weight and brain weight of IUGR group group rats decreased by 24.9% and 17.3%,respectively,the results were significant(Pa
