Objective To detect the existence of vasculogenic mimicry in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods In this study 42 patients with a total of 47 HCC nodules underwent radical resection.Histological and immunohistochemical double staining of CD31 and PAS were applied to observe the existence of vasculogenic mimicry ( VM ). Reverse tanscription PCR (RT-PCR) were applied to study the expression of VE-cadherin, EPHA2 and MMP-2 genes. Results VM was found in 16 of the 42 (38. 1% )HCC cases. The typical forms of VM in the microscope are vessel-like structure formed by tumor cells, without endothelial cells and the PAS-positive looping pattern. The existence of VM in HCC correlates to a higher Edmondson grade, higher capacity of intrahepatic disseminating and poorer tumor-free survival time (P< 0. 05). Comparing the difference of VE-cadherin gene, EPHA2 gene and MMP-2 gene expression between VM positive nodes and in VM negative nodes by RT-PCR method demonstrated that VE-cadherin gene, EPHA2 gene and MMP-2 gene have a more intense expression in VM positive nodes than in VM negative nodes ( P < 0. 05 ). Conclusion VM exists in human hepatocellular carcinoma. VM occurred more frequently in higher malignant HCC and predicts a higher rate of tumor recurrence and poorer prognosis.

The marine biological source of mineral drugs recorded in Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 version) mainly including pearl, nacre, clam shell, common oyster shell, ark shell, cuttle bone, and sea-ear shell are widely used in clinical. Calcium carbonate and a small amount of protein are the main components in this type of drugs. In this paper, a systematical and comparable study were carried out by determination of calcium carbonate by EDTA titration method, the crystal of calcium carbonate by X-Ray powder diffraction and the total amino acids (TAAs) of the hydrolyzed samples by ultraviolet spectrophotometry method. As a result, the crystal structure is calcite for common oyster shell, mixture of calcite and aragonite for nacre and sea-ear shell, aragonite for the other drugs. The content of calcium carbonate ranged from 86% to 96%. Cuttle bone has the highest amount of TAAs among the seven drugs which reached 1.7% while clam shell has the lowest content of 0.16% on average. In conclusion, an effective method was developed for the quality control of marine mineral drugs by comprehensive analysis of calcium carbonate and TAAs in the seven marine mineral drugs.

Objective To investigate the chromosome damage in peripheral lymphocytes of underground gold miners. Methods Conventional method and cytokinesis-block micronuclens assay were used to analyze frequency of chromosome aberrations and micronucleus in peripheral lymphocytes in 58 gold miners, respectively. Results Frequencies of chromosome-type aberrations,ehromatid-type aberrations and total aberrations were higher in the miners than those in the control group(0.72%,0.41%,1.16% vs 0.14%,0.18%,0.33,X2=44.322,9.501,50.476,P<0.01).Both micronucleated cell rate and micronucleus rate were higher in the miners group than those in the control group(10.8‰ and 11.6‰ vs 8.7‰ and 9.0‰,X2=8.672,12.546,P<0.01).Frequencies of chromosomal aberrations and micronucleus proportionally increased with underground working years.Compared with those miners who had worked underground 6 years or shorter, both frequencies were statistically higher among the miners who had worked underground for more than 21 years(P<0.05).No difference was found among other groups of working years(P>0.05).Compared with the control group, both frequencies increased in the miner group, and the differences were statistically significant(X2=2.395,P<0.05 for chromosomal aberrations and X2=2.319,P<0.05,respecfvely).The common types of chromosome aberrations were acentrie fragments, while chromatid break and dicenrics were subordinate. Conclusions Chromosomal damages were observed in the gold workers who exposed high radon in the underground mining.
7.Serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2015;17(8):837-840
OBJECTIVETo examine serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and to explore the relationship between vitamin D level and ADHD.
METHODSNinety-seven children with ADHD who were diagnosed according to DSM-V were selected as the ADHD group, including 46 cases of ADHD-I, 10 cases of ADHD-HI, and 41 cases of ADHD-C. Ninety-seven healthy children served as the control group. Serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D were measured using electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.
RESULTSMean serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the ADHD group (17±7 ng/mL) were significantly lower than in the control group (23±8 ng/mL; P<0.01). The serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the three subtypes groups of ADHD (ADHD-I, ADHD-HI, and ADHD-C) were all lower than in the control group (P<0.05). The rates of vitamin D insufficiency, deficiency or normal in the ADHD group were different from the control group (P<0.01). The distributions of vitamin D levels in the three subtypes groups of ADHD were all different from the control group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSSerum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in children with ADHD are lower than in healthy children, suggesting vitamin D level might be related to ADHD.

OBJECTIVETo study the changes in the migration of airway smooth muscle cells (ASMC) in asthmatic rats with airway remodeling and the effect of NK-1R inhibitor WIN62577 on the migration of ASMC.
METHODSSprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned into two groups: airway remodeling induced by asthma and normal control. ASMC from rats with asthma and airway remodeling induced by ovalbumin (OVA) inhalation for 8 weeks were primary cultured and purified. Immunofluorescence and real-time PCR were used to measure the expression of NK-1R. With NK-1R inhibitor WIN62577 treatment, the changes in the migration of ASMC were measured by transwell chambers.
RESULTSNK-1R in ASMC was expressed mainly in the cytoplasm and cell membrane in the airway remodeling group, and the mRNA expression of NK-1R was higher than the normal control group (P<0.01). The number of the migrated ASMC in the airway remodeling group was significantly higher than that in the normal control group (P<0.01). Various concentrations (10-11 mol/L, 10-10 mol/L, 10-9 mol/L and 10-8 mol/L) of WIN62577 treatment decreased the number of the migrated ASMC (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSNK-1R may affect airway remodeling possibly through promoting the migration ability of ASMC in rats with asthma.
