1.Halter cervical traction for the treatment of cervical radiculopathy in 81 cases
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2007;0(33):-
The efficiency of conservative treatment for cervical radiculopathy was retrospectively reviewed. Eighty-one patients were included; 40 patients presented with C7, 37 with C6, 2 with C5, and 2 with C8 radiculopathy. Seventy-eight patients underwent MRI examination prior to treatment, showing intervertebral disc protrusion in 71 cases, and spinal stenosis in 7. Eighty-one patients underwent a treatment wearing a cervical collar and home-based halter cervical traction: 5-6 kg for 20 minutes, once a day for 3 to 6 weeks. The mean duration of symptoms prior to neurosurgical evaluation was (43.0?8.3) days. Sixty-three (78%) of 81 patients responded to therapeutic traction, experiencing significant or total pain relief, three could not tolerate the traction, and traction failed in 15 patients. Three (1.89%) of the 63 patients undergoing traction treatment suffered recurrence of symptoms and required surgery.

Background Scarring of surgical area, the most important factor, leads to the failure of glaucoma filtering surgeries. Therefore, more and more attentions are paid to the causes and process of scar formation. Objective This study was to compare the differences of proliferation and migrating abilities of fibroblasts between filtering bleb scar tissue and normal Tenon capsular tissue, and to investigate the inhibitory effects of miRNA-200a (miR-200a) on biological behavior of conjunctival fibroblasts. Methods Normal Tenon capsular tissue and filtering bleb scar tissue were collected during the strabismus surgery and glaucoma filtering surgery, respectively for the primarily culture of fibroblasts. The proliferation (absorbency,A) of the cells was assayed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK8) method;the relative migrating distance of the cells was measured by cell scratch test;and the relative expressions of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)mRNA and miR-200a mRNA in the cells were detected by realtime fluorescence quantitative PCR.TGF-β1 mimic of 0,1,2 and 5 ng/ml was added in the medium of human normal Tenon capsular-derived fibroblasts (HTFs),and 0.00,0.25,0.50,1.00 μg/ml TGF-β1 inhibitor was added in the medium of human scarring-derived fibroblasts (HSFs) for 24 hours, respectively, and CCK8 was used to evaluate the proliferation of the cells. The relative migrating distance as well as the relative expressions of miR-200a mRNA were analyzed in the 2 ng/ml TGF-β1 mimic-or 1.00 μg/ml TGF-β1 inhibitor-treated cells. Results The primary conjunctival presented the spindle and star-like in shape with large body and oval nuclei. The cells showed the positive response for keratin and vimentin antibodies. The A values were 1.476±0.110 in the HSFs and 0.958±0.074 in the HTFs,with a significant difference between them (t =24.900,P=0.016).The relative expressions of TGF-β1 mRNA were significantly higher in the HSFs than those in the HTFs,and the relative expressions of miR-200a were evidently lower in the HSFs than those in the HTFs,showing significant differences between them (t =6.358,P =0.024;t=7.394,P =0.018).Compared with the 2 ng/ml TGF-β1 mimic-treated HTFs,the relative migrating distance increased, while the expression level of miR-200a mRNA was significantly reduced in the 2 ng/ml TGF-β1 mimictreated HSFs (all at P<0.05);Compared with the 1.00 μg/ml TGF-β1 inhibitor-treated HTFs,the relative migrating distance decreased, but the expression level of miR-200a mRNA was significantly elevated in the 1.00 μg/ml TGF-β1 inhibitor-treated HSFs (all at P<0.05).Conclusions The proliferation and migrating abilities are stronger in the HSFs than those in the HTFs,which probably is regulated by the expression of miR-200a in the cells. The miR-200a plays a negative feedback for the effect of TGF-β1 promoting proliferation and migration of fibroblasts.

7. Alveolar cells apoptosis and Fas/FasL expression in rabbits after ischemia/reperfusion of pulmonary artery
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2006;27(4):405-408
Objective: To observe the changes of alveolar cells apoptosis and the expression of Fas/FasL protein in pulmonary injury induced by ischemia/ reperfusion in rabbbits, and to explore the related mechanism of pulmonary injury. Methods: The left pulmonary arteries of 30 healthy New Zealand rabbits (either sex) were obstructed and reperfused by inflating and discharging gas of 5F Berman sacculus catheter. The rabbits were then randomly divided into 5 groups: sham operation group, ischemia 1 h group, ischemia 2 h group, ischemia 2 h and reperfusion 1 h group, and ischemia 2 h and reperfusion 2 h group. Another 6 healthy rabbits were taken as control. The pulmonary tissues were harvested after experiment and the lung wet/dry ratio was determined. Alveolar cells apoptosis and Fas/FasL protein expression were determined using flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry techniques, respectively. Results: The lung cell apoptosis was obviously increased in ischemia groups compared with that in the control and sham group. The reperfusion after ischemia further increased the cell apoptosis compared with simple ischemia groups, and the apoptosis was positively related with the reperfusion time (P<0.05 or 0.01). Fas and FasL protein expression was significantly higher in ischemia and ischemia/reperfusion group than that in other groups (both P<0.01). Significant positive correlation was found between apoptosis index with lung wet/dry ratio and expression of Fas and FasL (r=0.769, 0.820,0.820 respectively, P<0.01). Conclusion: Pulmonary artery ischemia/reperfusion may activate the Fas/FasL system and induce alveolar cells apoptosis, leading to pulmonary damages.

AIM:To explore the clinical value of combined detection of C-reactive protein ( CRP ) , erythrocyte sedimentation rate ( ESR) and white blood cell ( WBC) count in patients with ocular syphilis.
METHODS:Dates of CRP, ESR, WBC, TPPA and RPR of 51 ophthalmopathy patients caused by syphilis and 50 normal control from Jan. 2012 to Dec. 2015 in eye hospital were recruited and analyzed statistically.
RESULTS:The positive rates of CRP, ESR and WBC of oculopathy patients were 16%, 18% and 39%, respectively, which were higher than those in the control group. In patients group, the positive rate of ESR was higher than CRP and WBC. There were no obvious relationships between RPR titers and positive ratios of CRP, WBC and ESR.
CONCLUSION: The blood level of CRP, WBC and ESR may have certain help in estimating and monitoring condition of patients with ocular syphilis.
