1.The expression of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 in the hippocampus of rats restrained and stressed by electroacupuncture

Objective To observe the expression of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) in the hippocampi of rats stressed by restraint,and adjustments to 11β-HSD1 expression in response to electroacupuncture.The mechanisms of adjustment of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis(HPA) to electroacupuncture were also studied.Methods Rats were randomly divided into a control group,a group stressed by restraint and an electroacupuncture group.The rats in the control group received no treatment. The rats in the strssd group were put into a small columnar cage and their hind legs tied outside the cage. The electroacupuncture group, in addition to being restrained,received electroacupuncture at the Zusanli acupoints on both sides of their bodies. The rats were then sacrificed and their hippocampi were isolated and lysed. The expression of 11β-HSD1 in each hippocampus were observed using the Western blotting technique. Results The leves of expression of 11β-HSD1 in the hippocampi of the restrained group were significantly higher than those in the control group.After electroacupuncture,11β-HSD1 expression in the hippocampus increased further and lasted 3 h. Conclusion Electroacupuncture at the Zusanli acupoints (ST36) can increase 11β-HSD1 expression in the hippocampus of stressed rats, and this adjustment may be related to the HPA axis' negative feedback function.

6.Application of Simulated-patient Teaching in Obstetrics and Gynecology Practice Teaching and Assessment

To study the application of simulated-patient teaching in practice teaching and assessment of obstetrics and gynecology,the two groups of students were taught by simulated-patient teaching and discussed cases teaching respectively,and then they were assessed by using simulated patients for clinical skills.The result shows that simulated-patient teaching is effective in improving students' clinical skills,can act as a worthy tool of clinical teaching and assessment.
7.The Management for Pregnancy Complicated with Myelodysplastic Syndrome

Objective To investigate the incidence of pregnancy complicated with myelodys- plastic syndrome(MDS)and the influence between pregnancy and MDS and to discuss the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of pregnancy complicated with MDS.Methods Six pregnant patients complicated with MDS from Jan,1992 to Dec,1997 were retrospectively analysed and literature was reviewed.Results The incidence of pregnancy complicated with MDS was 0.66‰ and 24% of women with MDS were pregnant women.Therapeutic induction of labor was done in 2 cases because of severe MDS.Two complicated with PIH,and three complicated with postpartum haemorrage in six cases.Blood transfusion was necessary in all cases for treatment of severe anemia in pregnancy. MDS may remit after delivery.The use of corticosteroid before termination of pregnancy and prophy- lactic antibiotics after delivery is important.Conclusions It is important to prevent haemorrage and infection in the management of pregnaney complicated with MDS.
8.Expression of E-cadherin and nm23 in papillary thyroid carcinoma and its clinical significance

Purpose:To investigate the expression of E cadherin and nm23 in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and its clinical significance. Methods:The expression of E cadherin and nm23 were detected by SP immunohistochemical technique in 70 paraffin embedded tissue specimens of PTC.Results:The positive rates of E cadherin and nm23 were 44.3%(31/70) and 62.9%(44/70) respectively. There were close relations between the expression of E cadherin and nm23 and pathological grade, TNM stage and lymph node metastasis, and no difference could be found between the expression of E cadherin and nm23 and size of tumor, sex and age of patients. There was distinct correlation between the expression of E cadherin and nm23. The metastatic rate in the group, which the expression of E cadherin and nm23 were both positive, was 12%(3/25), but in the all negative group, the metastatic rate was 75%(15/20). 9.Lentiviral vector-mediated transfection of bone morphogenetic protein 2 gene into endothelial progenitor cells from rat bone marrow

BACKGROUND:Gene therapy has become a new trend for disease therapy and brought promise for some refractory diseases. The key point is to choose the proper cell, gene and vector. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) gene transfected into endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) from rat bone marrow for gene therapy. METHODS:The EPCs were isolated, cultured and identified from the bone marrow of Sprague-Dawley rats. Empty vector (LV-eGFP) or BMP2 gene (LV-eGFP-BMP2) was transferred into EPCs by the constructed lentiviral vector (LV). We examined the transfection efficiency by eGFP fluorescence, BMP2 secretion by ELISA, BMP2 expression by Western blot, and compared the capacities of migration, proliferation and anti-apoptosis after transfection in the three groups of normal EPCs, empty vector-EPCs, and BMP2-EPCs. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The transfection efficiency of lentiviral vector was 90%. BMP2 gene-transferred EPCs secreted and expressed more BMP2 proteins (P<0.01), and showed enhanced anti-apoptotic ability (P<0.05). The proliferation and migration capacity did not change obviously (P>0.05). After successful transfection with lentivirus-BMP2 gene, EPCs can secrete and express more BMP2 protein and show enhanced anti-apoptotic ability without obvious influence on the proliferation and migration capacity.
10.A STUDY ON THE CHANGES IN GMP-140 IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES AND CEREBRAL VASCULAR DISEASES

To investigate the change in GMP 140 and its significance in patients with diabetes accompanied with cerebral infarction. Plasma GMP 140 levels were assayed by radilimmunoassay in diabetes accompanied with cerebral infarction, controlled diabetes, cerebral infarction patients and normal controls, respectively. The results showed the GMP 140 levels were significantly higher in patients with diabetes accompanied with cerebral infarction than in patients with diabetes and normal control ( P 0 05). The results suggested that the level of GMP 140 in plasma might be used as a sensitive and reliable indicator reflecting the degree of platelet activation.
