21 classII malocclusion adolescents (9 boys and 12 girls) were selected as the subjects, aged from 10.6 to 14.5 years, and the initial mean age was 12.8 years. All were treated with the modified Pendulum appli-ance. The duration for distalization of maxillary molars was from 3.2 to 5.7 months (4.3 months on average). Lat-eral cephalograms were obtained before and after distalization. Changes produced by the modified Pendulum appli-ance were analyzed with paired t tests. The mean space opening on lateral cephalograms was 7.31 mm, and maxil-lary first molar distalization accounted for 64.8% of the space, with a mean distal crown tipping of 18.64o. The rate of molar movement was 1.27 mm per month. The maxillary first molars intruded 0.69 mm,and the premolars extru-ded 1.02 mm. Lower anterior facial height increased 2.19 mm. The maxillary incisors had increased 3.39oof labial tipping and 1.13 mm of protrusion.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a novel mechanical system that provides respiratory and/or hemodynamic support to patients with severe respiratory or cardiac failure. These patients generally develop a state of increased metabolic activity accompanied by elevated catabolism of protein and negative nitrogen balance. Moreover, provision of adequate nutritional therapy is hard to achieve due to various factors.Nutrition support for these patients is hence a critical issue. This article provides a brief overview of the current literature regarding nutritional support during ECMO in adult patients,as no current guidelines address this issue.

Objective To evaluate the effect of lipoic acid on endothelial microparticles (EMP) in diabetic patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) of the lower limbs. Methods Forty eight diabetic patients with PAD of the lower limbs were randomly divided into two groups: the therapeutic group and control group (each group has 24 cases). Patients of control group only received internal comprehensive medicine therapies for 3 weeks. Patients of therapeutic group were treated with both lipoic acid (600 mg lipoic acid injection in normal saline solution for intravenous drip, once daily for 3 weeks) and internal comprehensive medicine therapies at the same time. The levels of EMP in venous blood and Ankle-brachial index (ABI) were estimated before and after treatment by flow cytometry. Results Compared to the control group after treatment [(1 179. 8± 120. 1) per μL], EMP value showed a significant reduction in therapeutic group [(1 032. 4±117. 2) per μL] (P<0. 01). The levels of ABI of therapeutic group (0. 68 ±0. 10) was increased obviously as compared that before lipoic acid treatment (P<0. 01). Patients treated with lipoic acid showed the higher levels of ABI than the control group after treatment (0. 58±0. 11) (P<0. 01). Conclusion Lipoic acid injection significantly decreased the level of EMP in diabetic patients with PAD of lower limbs. Lipoic acid might be an effective drug for diabetic patients with PAD.

Objective:To observe the influence of ginsenoside Rg1 on transcriptional activation of NF-κB induced by hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2) in 293T cell, and probe into the antioxidant mechanism of ginsenoside Rg1.Methods:In the experiment, cells was exposed to H_2O_2 after pretreatment with Rg1,cell proliferation and cytotoxicity studies were detected by MTT and Trypan blue. The quantities of generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (iROS) was analyzed by flow cytometric analysis measured with fluorescent probe 2,7-dichlorofluorescin diacetate (DCFH-DA).NF-κB-responsive element-luciferase reporter gene was transfected and dual-luciferase cis-reporting systems were used to assay the transcriptional activity of NF-κB under the stimulated circumstance of oxidative stress induced by H_2O_2.Results:The results of MTT showed that ginsenoside Rg1 apparently protected the proliferation of 293T cell, which were repressed by H_2O_2 (P<0.05).The results by trypan blue showed that H_2O_2 stimulated substantial cytotoxicity. This effect was markedly attenuated by treatment with ginsenoside Rg1.Oxidant production, measured as the fluorescence of dichlorofluorescein, was significant increased by 40%-50% through H_2O_2 stimulation. The decrease in iROS generation was significant blocked by 35%-40% through Rg1 and antioxidant. The relative luciferase reporter assay of NF-κB was apparently improved by H_2O_2-induced(P<0.05),but Ginsenoside Rg1 significantly repressed the relative value of luciferase (P<0.05).Conclusion:Ginsenoside Rg1 has the obvious protective function from the damage of oxidative stress damage, whose possible mechanism is to eliminate excessive free radicals of the cells effectively,to reduce transcriptional activation of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB),and subsequently to suppress the NF-κB circuit activation.

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate how different concentrations of dextran sulfate sodi-um ( DSS) influence the establishment of mouse model of inflammatory bowel disease ( IBD) and the effect of DSS on the expression of colitis-associated immune factors. Methods The DSS solution in different concentrations (3%, 5%, 7%) were given to male C57BL/6J mice to generate mouse inflammatory bowel disease model. The IBD mice were observed by defecation characteristics, body weight, and survival time. The animals were sacrificed at 6 days after the start of DSS drinking. The general appearance of colons was observed and scored. Moreover, the pathological changes of the colon were examined and analyzed by routine histology. The expression of immune factors in the spleen was detected by real-time PCR.Results The mice in the 3%, 5%, 7% DSS groups developed murine colitis. In addition, the incidence of IBD and mouse mortality rate was directly proportional to the increase of DSS concentration.Furthermore, the higher concentra-tion of DSS induced the expression of proinflammatory factors including TNF-α, IFN-γand IL-17A, but cause a decrease of anti-inflammatory factors such as IL-4, IL-10 and Treg-related transcription factor Foxp3.Conclusions Our data suggest that giving 5%DSS solution to C57BL/6J mouse is appropriate to efficiently establish a murine IBD model. This laid an important foundation for further studies of the pathogenesis of IBD, biological characteristics, and intervention factors.
