ObjectiveTo analyze the effect of the simplified Taichiquan exercise on the function of the lower limbs. MethodsThe ranges of flexion extension motion of the hip, knee and ankle of 30 healthy male young subjects were measured using a goniometer. ResultsDuring exercise the hips and the knee of both weight bearing legs and non weight bearing legs had marked decreases of ranges of motion, but the right ankle had more activities of dorsiflexion, the left ankle was in a dynamic mid zero position.ConclusionTaichiquan exercise can strengthen the motive function of lower limb.

ObjectiveTo explore the change ranges of ankle motion in mini-Taichiquan exercise.MethodsThe ranges of ankle motion of 30 healthy male young subjects were measured using a goniometer.ResultsThere were more activities of dorsiflexion on right ankles,while the left ankles was in a dynamic mid-zero position during the exercise.ConclusionsMini-Taichiquan exercise can strengthen both dorsiflexors and plantar flexors especially triceps surae,in a functional ankle joint state.

During the production of ε-poly-L-lysine (ε-PL) in fed-batch fermentation, the decline of ε-PL synthesis often occurs at middle or late phase of the fermentation. To solve the problem, we adopted two strategies, namely pH shift and feeding yeast extract, to improve the productivity of ε-PL. ε-PL productivity in fermentation by pH shift and feeding yeast extract achieved 4.62 g/(L x d) and 5.16 g/(L x d), which were increased by 27.3% and 42.2% compared with the control ε-PL fed-batch fermentation, respectively. Meanwhile, ε-PL production enhanced 36.95 g/L and 41.32 g/L in 192 h with these two strategies, increased by 27.4% and 42.48% compared to the control, respectively. ε-PL production could be improved at middle or late phase of fed-batch fermentation by pH shift or feeding yeast extract.

Objective To investigate the efficiency and safety of articulating spacer for severe infected knee arthroplasty in patients with medical comorbidities and local sinus tracts. Methods Ten consecutive patients with medical comorbidities (rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, etc) or local sinus tracts,who were complicated with late infected TKA, were included in the study. All the patients underwent twostage revision using articulating spacers. All of the patients were debridement thoroughly and followed by implantation of an antibiotic-loaded cement articulated spacer. Two-stage revisions were not followed untill the infection were controlled. The hospital for special surgery (HSS) knee scoring system and range of motion were used to evaluate the outcomes. Results One patient underwent knee fusion because the infection was not controlled after first-stage surgery. The other 9 patients had no evidence of infection. The mean follow-up was 50 months (range, 24-90 months), no recurrent infection developed for these 9 patients. The mean modified HSS score had improved from 48 points (range, 32-63) before the resection surgery to 79 points (range,62-91) at the end of the spacer period. At the latest follow-up, the modified HSS score averaged 89 points (range, 74-95). The good and excellent rate was 0, 80% and 100%, respectively. The average range of motion had increased from 13°-70° preoperatively to 8°-93° prior to the revision. And at the latest follow-up, the range of motion averaged 3° to 110°. Conclusion The delayed two-stage revision using an articulating spacer is effective in the treatment of chronically infected TKA characterized by simple, good reproducible, high rate of infection control, better joint function after surgeries

Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and gene mutation in a patient clinically diagnosed as dopa-responsive dystonia (DRD) without family history.Methods The clinical characteristics of a patient clinically diagnosed as DRD without family history were collected and molecular and bioinformatic analyses were performed.Results The patient demonstrated as type A tyrosine hydroxylase deficiency and a compound heterozygous mutation of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) gene was found,including a known nonsense mutation,c.457C＞T and a novel missense mutation,c.734G＞T that was probably pathologically predicted by bioinformatic analysis.Conclusion c.734G＞T may be a novel pathological mutation of TH gene.

Objective Study configuration inversion of C-2-hydroxy in lycorine to provide a foundation for semi-synthesis of asiaticumine B .Methods Use instrumental analyses to explore the C-2-hydroxy configuration through oxidation and reduc-tion reactions .Results Accomplished configuration inversion of C-2-hydroxy in lycorine with 49% yield .Conclusion We identified a convenient and efficient method for the configuration inversion of C 2-hydroxy in lycorine .

OBJECTIVETo explore the timing and suitable method of reconstructing penile defects caused by devastating electrical burn.

METHODSThirteen patients with penile defects after devastating electrical burn, hospitalized from September 1998 to August 2013, were included in this study. After the necrotic tissues in the wounds were removed by dressing changes, a local or a hinge-like flap constructed from scrotum or abdominal wall, a prelaminated hinge-like flap from forearm, or a free forearm flap was selected, according to the injury degree of the penis, for the repair of the defect or reconstruction of penis respectively.

RESULTSThe flaps survived and the wounds healed well in 2 patients repaired with local flaps from scrotum or abdominal wall. Urethritis occurred in 2 patients 6 to 9 months after the transplantation of hinge-like flaps from scrotum, and they were cured by appropriate drugs. Functions of urination and erection of penis were recovered in these 4 patients. All flaps survived in the 5 patients repaired with hinge-like flaps from abdominal wall or prelaminated flaps from forearm. The wounds in 2 patients healed; wound dehiscence occurred in the other 3 patients in different degrees, and they healed after suturing for 2 or 3 times. The function of erection of penis recovered in these 5 patients, but with discontinuity of urinary stream during urination. Among them, 3 married patients enjoyed satisfactory sexual life. All free forearm flaps survived and the wounds healed well in 4 patients. Urinary fistula occurred in 1 patient, and it was repaired by a secondary operation. These 4 patients experienced normal urination function, but only 2 patients in whom corpus spongiosum partially remained retained the function of erection of penis to certain degree. All these 4 patients could not perform normal sexual intercourse. All patients were followed up for 6 to 13 months after surgery. Under ordinary state, the length of penis was 5.9-9.3 cm, and the circumference of penis was 8.4-10.0 cm. Wound scar was not obvious in all cases. Nine patients reported a restricted erection.

CONCLUSIONSPenile defect caused by devastating electrical burn should be repaired with a suitable flap after necrotic tissues are removed with dressing change. To repair affected penis with necrosis of a small part of cavernous body and/or corpus spongiosum, or combined with urethra defects, local flaps from scrotum or abdominal wall or hinge-like flap from scrotum should be employed. To repair those with necrosis of a large part or the whole of corpus spongiosum combined with urethra defects, hinge-like skin flaps from abdominal wall or prelaminated flaps from forearm should be employed. In patients with necrosis of a large part of cavernous body and corpus spongiosum combined with urethra defect, or total loss of penis, free forearm flaps should be employed to reconstruct penis.

T-cell internal antigen-1 (TIA-1) has roles in regulating alternative pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA translation, and stress granule (SG) formation in human cells. As an evolutionarily conserved response to environmental stress, SGs have been reported in various species. However, SG formation in chicken cells and the role of chicken TIA-1 (cTIA-1) in SG assembly has not been elucidated. In the present study, we cloned cTIA-1 and showed that it facilitates the assembly of canonical SGs in both human and chicken cells. Overexpression of the chicken prion-related domain (cPRD) of cTIA-1 that bore an N-terminal green fluorescent protein (GFP) tag (pntGFP-cPRD) or Flag tag (pFlag-cPRD) induced the production of typical SGs. However, C-terminal GFP-tagged cPRD induced notably large cytoplasmic granules that were devoid of endogenous G3BP1 and remained stable when exposed to cycloheximide, indicating that these were not typical SGs, and that the pntGFP tag influences cPRD localization. Finally, endogenous cTIA-1 was recruited to SGs in chicken cells and tissues under environmental stress. Taken together, our study provide evidence that cTIA-1 has a role in canonical SG formation in chicken cells and tissues. Our results also indicate that cPRD is necessary for SG aggregation.
