Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C), which is known to be capable of inducing cell proliferation of lymphatic endothelium and development of lymphatic vessels, and to study its correlation with cervical lymph node metastasis in human laryngeal carcinomas. Methods The expression of VEGF-C protein in the cancer, its adjacent tissue, and normal tissue obtained from resected specimens of 46 cases of laryngeal cancer was assessed with an immunohistochemical staining assay followed by light microscopic examination, and its relationship with cervical lymph node metastasis was analyzed. Results Immunohistochemical staining of VEGF-C was different obviously in different localities of the resected. The expression of VEGF-C protein was observed in all the central portion, peripheral tissue, and normal tissue of the postoperative specimens. The positive rate of intratumoral VEGF-C was significantly higher than that of adjacent and normal tissue. It was also noted that the positive rate of intratumoral VEGF-C was well correlated with pathological grades, T stages and stages of lymph node metastasis. Conclusions The results suggested that VEGF-C may be a factor of lymphatic metastasis of laryngeal cancer, and it is possible to be used as a predictor of lmphatic metastasis of laryngeal cancer.

Aim To study the effect and investigate the underlying mechanism of astragaloside Ⅳ on contraction and relaxation in isolated rat aortic rings.Methods The relaxation effect of astragaloside Ⅳ(1～100 mg?L~(-1))on phenylephrine-preconstricted aorta ring was recorded.The effect of astragaloside Ⅳ on the contraction induced by cumulative phenylephrine,KCl or CaCl_2,was recorded respectively.Results Astragaloside Ⅳ dilated aortic vessels in a dose-dependent manner,which was partly inhibited by preincubation with non-selective nitric oxide synthase inhibitor,guanylyl cyclase inhibitor and cyclooxygenases inhibitor indomethacin.Astragaloside IV could also antagonize phenylephrine-,KCl-and CaCl_2-induced vessel contraction.Conclusion Astragaloside IV dilated aortic vessels partially though endothelium-dependent NO pathway and inhibited vessel contraction via interfering Ca~(2+) influx.

Objective: To develop a Chinese version of the Schedule for the Deficit Syndrome(SDS) and examine its reliability and validity. Methods: 123 schizophrenic patients finished the Chinese version of SDS and were subtyped into deficit (n=30) and nondeficit(n=93) groups. In addition, all patients completed BPRS, SANS and SAPS. The reliability analysis of SDS included Cronbach's ?琢 coefficients and mean inter-item correlations and the inter-rater reliability; while the validity analysis included construct validity and criteria validity. Results: The Cronbach's ?琢 coefficient and the mean interitem correlation coefficients of the negative symptoms severity subscale of SDS were 0.8441 and 0.4818, respectively. The inter-rater reliability for categorization was 0.8777. The correlation coefficients of the six negative symptom items with the total score ranged from 0.685 to 0.875,and that among the six negative symptom items ranged from 0.437 to 0.794. The negative symptom items and the total score of SDS were significantly correlated with the anergia factor score from the BPRS and the total score and several subscale scores of SANS, while none of them was correlated with subscale scores and total score of SAPS. Conclusion: The Chinese version of SDS was a reliable and valid measure for the diagnostic classification of deficit and nondeficit schizophrenia.

Objective To compare the different expression patterns of survivin and caspase-3 between the larger part and the smaller part of the dissymmetric enlarged prostates in BPH patients, and to clarify the role of apoptosis in BPH etiology. Methods BPH tissues from 25 patients were embedded in paraffin. The specimens constituted of two prostate parts from each patient. One part was from the larger enlarged gland and the other was from the smaller enlarged counterpart. 50 paraf-fin blocks were cut into sections and stained with survivin and caspase-3 polyclonal antibodies against human. All the data was analyzed by SPSS13.0 software. Results Survivin immunoreactivity was localized in prostatic cell nuclei. Survivin expression in larger enlarged parts (22.08±16. 33)0% was significantly higher than the smaller parts (7. 645±5. 45)%(P<0.01). Positive nuclear or cytoplasm staining was also observed in the Caspase-3 immunoreactivity. Caspase-3 expression was higher in smaller enlarged parts (51. 525±27. 27%) than in larger enlarged parts (33. 125±21.01%) (P< 0.01). Survivin expression in larger part of the enlarged prostates was inversely correlated with caspase-3 expression (r=-0. 474, P<0. 05). However, in smaller part of the enlarged prostates, the expression of the two factors had no relation (r=-0. 313,P>0. 05). Conclusions Survivin and caspase-3 expression patterns are different in the two parts of the dissymmetric enlarged prostates. These different patterns indicate apoptosis playing an important role in BPH development.

Cancer has become the second largest life-threatening disease nowadays.Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are still important treatments for cancer.However, they tend to produce a lot of serious adverse effects including bone damage and bone marrow fat, etc.Based on recent research, the research progress on canonical Wnt pathway and its impact on stromal stem cells differentiation into osteoblasts and adipocytes are reviewed.Radiochemotherapy-induced bone damage and bone marrow fat is closely related to canonical Wnt pathway.In experimental assay and clinical application, Wnt pathway antagonists, such as Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1), sclerostin, and secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (sFRP-1) are used to relieve bone damage.Wnt pathway is expected to become a potential target for the therapy of bone damage and bone marrow fat induced by raidochemotherapy.

Synergetic antiplatelet effects of aqueous extracts of Fructus Crataegi and Rhizoma Alismatis in vitro were studied. The interaction of the two drugs was also observed. Results showed that the IC50 of Fructus Crataegi on platelet aggregation induced by ADP was 1.388g/100ml,whereas the IC50 of Rnizoma Alismatis was 7. 585g/100ml. In the presence of low concentrations of Fructus Crataegui (0.3~0.9g/100ml ),the an　tiplatelet activity of Rhizoma Alismatis was significantly increased,and the IC50 was only 1.755g/100ml with the presence of 0. 9g of Cralaegus pinnatifida per 100ml. These results suggested that the two drugs have a mutual synergetic effect on antiplatelet function

Objective To isolate and identify the Sertoli′ cells, and the expression of FasL was examined immunohistochemically. Methods Testis were isolated from male Wistar rats and Sertoli′ cells were isolated. After culturing for 72 hours, Sertoli′ cells were morphologically observed by several ways and identified with transmission electron microscope. FasL was examined immunohistochemically. Results The yielded Sertoli′ cells accounted for over 90% of all the cells harvested. FasL was expressed in high level in the 72h cultured Sertoli′ cells. Conclusion Sertoli′ cells that we have isolated can be used for co-transplantation with other cells and offer immune privilege.

Objective To determine the gross radioactivity in drinking water in Chifeng city and to estimate the annual effective dose associated with intake of radionuclides from drinking water.Methods Water samples were collected at locations distributed in 12 counties across Chifeng city, and radioactivity was measured with a low background α/β measuring instrument and HPGe γspectrometer.Results Gross α radioactivity in drinking water was in the range of 0.016-1.230 Bq/L and gross β radioactivity in the range of 0.039-0.878 Bq/L in Chifeng city.The average annual effective dose to the local population from gross α radioactivity was 0.071 mSv/a.Conclusions The grossα/β level in Chifeng city is lower than the World Health Organization-recommended value and the average annual effective dose due to drinking water is within the recommended safety level.
