Maintenance chemotherapy may prolong survival time in advanced non-small-cell lung canc-er. Maintenance chemotherapy may use the effective drugs which have been used in induction chemotherapy and the second-or third-line chemotherapy and molecular target drugs seem more fit for maintenance chemotherapy in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer.
2.Management and prognosis of metastatic ovarian carcinoma from nongenital tract

Objective To study the management and prognosis of nongenital metastatic ovarian carcinoma. Methods Thirty-four patients with nongenital metastatic ovarian carcinoma who were admitted in to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University between 1998 and 2004 were analyzed retrospectively. Results The median survival time of group A (optimal cytoreductive surgery), group B (optimal cytoreductive surgery+chemotherapy), group C (sub-optimal cytoreductive surgery) and group D (sub-optimal cytoreductive surgery+chemotherapy ) was 5.0,10.0,4.0 and 6.5 months, respectively. 3.Study on the reversion of drug resistance in human cervical cancer cell lines

Objective To determine the resistance reversion of mitomycin (MMC) by 3′-Keto-bmt 1-val 2-cyclosporin (SDZ PSC 833) in human cervical cancer in vitro and in vivo. Metheds A xenografted mitomycin resistant mice model of cervical cancer was devolped. The reversion of mitomycin resistance by SDZ PSC 833 (1 or 3 mg/L) was detected from human cervical cancer cell (Hela) and its resistant subline Hela/MMC in vitro and in vivo. Studies in vitro include drug resistance reversion experiment and the changes of morphology. Studies in vivo including tumor volume and tumor related histopathological changes in the autopsied specimen were evaluated by comparing random sections of each group. Results Nontoxic doses of SDZ PSC 833 could result in almost partial reversion of MMC-resistance of Hela/MMC.In vivo studies also showed SDZ PSC 833 augmented the growth inhibitory effect of mitomycin on Hela/MMC xenografted in nude mice. Conclusion SDZ PSC 833 can overcome mitomycin resistance of Hela/MMC in vitro and in vivo ,so SDZ PSC 833 will be a better candidate clinically for reversing multidrug resistance.
4.The Clinic Observation on the Role of Xingnaojing Injection Solution in Treating Burn Sepsis

Objective To investigate the effect of Xingnaojing injection solution in treating severe burn patients with sepsis. Methods 41 cases of burn patients with sepsis were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. The experimental group were intravenously injected 40ml/day Xingnaojing injection solution for 7 days. The control group received routine therapy. Bacteria counts in burn wound, the survival rate of the patients and the positive rate of blood culture in the both groups were determined and compared. 6.Diagnosis and treatment of recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma

Objective To investigate the diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Methods Fifty-two patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma who were admitted in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University between 1997 and 2002 were analyzed retrospectively,and their diagnostic methods and the survival rates were compared. Results The positive diagnostic rate of pelvic examination,CA 125 and ultrasound examination was 73.1%,84.6% and 53.8%,respectively to the recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma. The median survival time of group A(surgery+chemotherapy) and group B ( chemotherapy) was 11 and 12 months,respectively. Conclusions The diagnostic methods should include pelvic examination,CA 125 and ultrasound examination. We could not know the exact role of surgery to the management and prognosis of recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Chemotherapy may have an important role to the management and prognosis of recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma.
7.Experimental study on the effects of butyrate on the apoptosis of colon cancer cell line

Objectives: To investigate the effect of butyrate, the by-products of diet fiber fermented in colon, on the apoptosis of human colon cancer cell and its mechanism for colon cancer prevention. Methods: The subculture of human colon cancer cell line SW1116 was cultured in medium without or with different concentration of butyrate(2、3、4、7 and 10 mmol/L). The cell proliferation rate and apoptosis were measured by MTT and flow cytometer or electro-microscopy respectively after 6、24、48 and 72 cultivation. Results: By the increasing of butyrate concentration and cell culture time, the proliferation of SW1116 cell was inhibited gradually with a highest rate of 59.19% during the study period. The percent of G 1 cell was increased gradually whereas the percent of S cell was decreased. The apoptosis rate of SW1116 was increased gradually with a highest rate of 30.62% at the same time. The ultrastructure of SW1116 cell was changed after butyrate was added to culture medium. Conclusions: Butyrate could not only inhibit the proliferation of colon cancer cell line but also induce it apoptosis.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism of butyrate,which is the by-products of diet fiber fermented in colon and induce the apoptosis of human colon cancer cell. Methods: The subculture of human colon cancer cell line SW1116 was cultured in medium with different concentration of butyrate(0、2 、3 、4、7 and 10 mmol/L).The mRNA and proteins of bcl-2 or bax in cell lines were detected respectively by RT-PCR and Western Blotting while the concentration of p53 protein and the activity of caspase-3 was detected by flow cytometer and fluorescent quantitative assay respectively after 6、24、48 and 72h cultivation.Results: There was no expression of bcl-2 mRNA and its protein in SW1116 cell during the study periods but the expression of bax mRNA and its protein,the p53 protein concentration and the caspase-3 activity increased gradually when the butyrate concentration was increased and the cultivation time was prolonged. Conclusion: By up-regulating the expression of bax mRNA and its protein,butyrate induce the apoptosis of colon cancer cell on a p53 dependent way.
9.Unexplained rhabdomyolysis: clinical analysis of twenty three cases

Objective To evaluate clinical features, therapeutic regimen and prognosis of unexplained rhabdomyolysis. Method Clinical manifestations, therapeutic regimen and prognosis were recorded in 23 patients,who were admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University 13 to 27 August,2010.The 23 patients were diagnozed as unexplained rhabdomyolysis. Results The patients all presented myalgia of upper body,like neck,waist and back,maybe with asthenia, nausea,dyspnea,abdominal pain, red urine or changed color of urine. Laboratory examination: obviously step-up of creatine kinase [CK: (4655 ± 2556) U/L( normal: 25 ~ 190U/L) AST:(141 ±78) U/L(normal:10~45 U/L),LDH:(348± 127) U/L(normal: 110~ 250 U/L)]and myoglobin[( Mb > 1000 μg/L (normal: 0 ~ 50 μg/L)]. Therapeutic regimen included treatment of the underlying diseases, volume repletion, alkalization and dealing with the complications. No patients developed acute renal failure.All the patients recovered. Conclusions Rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome with different clinical manifestations.However, early diagnosis, proper treatment could prevent serious complications,and prognosis is good.
10.Value of vascular enhancement technology in diagnosis of fetal pulmonary sequestration

Objective To assess the clinical value of vascular enhancement technology (VET) in diagnosis of fetal pulmonary sequestration (PS).Methods Color Doppler velocity (CDV),color Doppler energy (CDE) and VET were performed in 11 fetus with PS to display the vessels in region of interest.Results The abnormal vessels in region of interest were displayed in distinct degree with CDV,CDE and VET.The courser and disposition of the great vessels were displayed with CDV and CDE,while lumen of blood vessel was clearly discriminated with VET,while CDV depicted the direction of blood flow.Satisfaction assessment of the VET image was superior than those of CDV and CDE image (P<0.05).No difference was found between the satisfaction assessment of the CDV and CDE images (P>0.05).Conclusion VET can improve the contrast resolution,having superiority in displaying vessels and fine branches,therefore has clinical value in the diagnosis of fetal PS.
