Superior mesenteric vein (SMV) thrombosis is a relatively rare disease. Most patients may be successfully treated with anti-coagulation alone. However, bowel stricture may develop due to intestinal ischemia which may require surgical treatment. This report describes a rare case of small bowel stricture occurring one month after successful treatment of SMV thrombosis. After segmental resection of strictured bowel, the patient's post-operative course was uneventful.

PEG-modified magnetic Fe3O4 (Fe3O4-PEG) nanoparticles were sythesized using a solvothermal reaction and characterized with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The photothermal effect and photothermal destruction of cancer cells were evaluated. Then the doxorubicin loaded Fe3O4-PEG (DOX-Fe3O4-PEG) nanoparticles were prepared. The cytotoxicity and combined chemotherapy/photothermal therapy (PTT) effect were investigated. Uniform PEG coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles with particle size of 155 nm were obtained in the experiment. The loading and release of doxorubicin on Fe3O4-PEG were pH-dependent. The drug loading capacity in water was 21%. The results of MTT indicated a good biocompatiblity of Fe3O4-PEG nanoparticles and high cytotoxicity of DOX-Fe3O4-PEG. In combined therapy experiment, photothermal therapy demonstrated unambiguously enhanced chemotherapy efficacy. In conclusion, the obtained Fe3O4-PEG nanoparticles which exhibit good photothermal effect and drug loading capacity can be used for chemotherapy and photothermal therapy. The synergetic anti-tumor activity indicates the potential for the combined application of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy in cancer treatment.

Objective: To compare the difference of infrared radiation temperature on body surface of points between healthy people and patients with hyperplasia of mammary glands. Method: The thermaCATMT P30 infrared thermal imaging system was selected to measure the infrared radiation temperature on body surface of eight points in four meridians in 74 patients with hyperplasia of mammary glands and 63 healthy people. Results: The infrared radiation temperatures on body surface of right Youmen (KI 21) in cases with hyperplasia of mammary glands were significantly higher than the healthy people (P=0.009), and the infrared radiation temperatures on left Youmen (KI 21) and other points had no significant difference with healthy people (P>0.05). Conclusion: The infrared radiation temperatures on body surface of right Youmen (KI 21) have significant differences with healthy people. This might occur because of the pathogenesis of hyperplasia of mammary glands and of the specificity of the point Youmen (KI 21).

Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common symptom which associated with cancer itself or cancer treatments. CRF will not only interrupt the patient's treatment, but also affect the patient's quality of life seriously. To date, the pathogenesis of CRF is still unclear, and recognized effective treatment is lacking. It is the precondition of establishing standardized animal models for CRF to find effective treatments. This paper summarizes the animal model of CRF in order to find suitable methods, and distinguish the effects of different interventions.

Objective:To investigate the performance of real-time RT-PCR for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid in clinical diagnosis of COVID-19.Methods:Laboratory test data and basic case information of Henan COVID-19 cases were collected from the China′s Infectious Disease Information System as of March 5, 2020. All information was entered by local hospitals and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Local hospitals or country CDC were responsible for sampling and municipal CDC was responsible for nucleic acid testing. Results:A total of 6 714 specimens were detected and the positive rate of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid was 23.82%. The specimens were collected from 1 200 confirmed cases, 2 178 suspected cases and 77 asymptomatic cases. The nucleic acid diagnosis rate of COVID-19 was 36.96% (1 277/3 455). In all cases, the positive rates of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid in nasal swabs, sputum samples and throat swabs were 19.38%, 28.59% and 23.53%, respectively (χ 2=15.896, P<0.01). The positive rate of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid in confirmed COVID-19 cases was 63.10%. The positive rates in nasal swabs, sputum samples and throat swabs were 50.80%, 58.71% and 65.21 (χ 2=18.612, P<0.01). The positive rates of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid were 43.51%, 23.98%, 22.82%, 12.17%, 14.46% and 13.21% in samples collected on the day of symptom onset and one week, two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, five weeks and above five weeks after the onset, respectively. The positive rates in confirmed cases were respectively 89.03%, 86.57%, 52.30%, 17.53%, 17.69% and 24.14% at those time points. Conclusions:Real-time RT-PCR is the most effective method for early pathogenic diagnosis of COVID-19. The highest detection rate of nucleic acid is achieved within one week after the onset of COVID-19, and the latest time for nucleic acid detection is 38 d after the onset.

Objective To explore the prognostic values of telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter (TERTp) mutation and 1p/19q co-deletion in newly-diagnosed O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter un-methylated/isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) wild-type glioblastoma multiform (GBM). Methods A total of 82 patients pathologically newly-diagnosed MGMT promoter un-methylated/IDH wild-type GBM, admitted to our hospitals from March 2016 to November 2018, were included in this study. TERTp mutations (TERTp wild-type and TERTp mutation [C228 mutation and C250 mutation]) in GBM specimens were detected by PCR sequencing, 1p/19q co-deletion in GBM specimens was detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and clinical data, adverse reactions and prognoses of patients with different molecular typing were compared. Results There were 33 patients in the TERTp wild type group with mean age of 48 years, and 49 patients in the TERTp mutation group with mean age of 59 years; the difference of age was significant (P<0.05); there were no statistical differences in gender distribution, Karnofsky performance status (KPS) scores, tumor sites and surgical resection degrees between the two groups (P>0.05). There were 8 patients with 1p/19q co-deletion and 74 patients without 1p/19q co-deletion; no significant differences in above clinical parameters were noted between the two groups. There were no statistically significant differences in the incidences of bone marrow suppression, digestive tract response and fatigue, disease progression rate, or survival rate between patients from TERTp wild type group and TERTp mutation group, and between patients with 1p/19q co-deletion and patients without 1p/19q co-deletion (P>0.05). No significant differences in above clinical parameters, disease progression rate, and survival rate were noted between patients with C228 mutation and C250 mutation (P>0.05). Conclusion TERTp typing and 1p/19q co-deletion status do not have prognostic value in newly-diagnosed MGMT un-methylated/IDH wild-type GBM patients; patients with TERTp mutations have older age than wild-type patients; patients with C250 mutation trend to have higher survival rate than those with C228 mutation.
